What's new

All options on the table, if Kabul doesn’t act, says officials

Cross-border issues and Karma have both existed for most of the people, most of the time. What is your point?

cross border issue's have existed all over, India and china have them
never had it every been backed by cross border terrorism
I don't feel happy about it, but yeah wasn't pakistan doing the same to India in the late 80's what it faces for afghanistan now ... the reasons might be different and poor afghanistan itself doesn't have control of it region

.
Your opinion on India doing the same, what you advocate for Afghanistan?

Pakistan has long hosted anti-India elements as a matter of policy.

Give it a rest. The same old rhetoric is getting boring now.

.
Shall we start with the proper helicopters or secure commlinks? Or something else?

How about MI-17 and Bell? Do they constitute for a proper helicopter in your opinion?

Next in the list MI-35. By the way if i am to agree with the above, again i will point your attention towards the lack of will from he political establishment because had there been a will to develop armed forces, acquiring few transport helicopters would not be a big deal.

Only the Mi-35 would begin to be suitable, not the others, for the type deep strikes that would be needed for the problem being discussed. Even then, proper humint and sigint would be crucial, plus the proper logistical support including commlinks. What can the establishment do when there is simply no money?

We are already experiencing plenty of fall-out. Taking out strategic terrorist assets should not be a problem. These people hail from Pakistan and getting rid of them should be our prerogative, particularly since Afghans themselves are not willing or able to do something.

I am well-aware of the reverse case. But do note that Afghans have never passed up an opportunity to host anti-Pakistan elements. If we act now, we can achieve some results. After the Americans are gone, we might not be able to take such steps. No one can say how things turn out once Americans leave. I do hope you recall the incident of Americans arresting Hakimullah Mehsud's deputy while he was travelling with KHAD operatives inside Afghanistan. Americans would understand our concerns and keep Afghans from doing something about it.

In case such a decision is made, our planners would probably make contingency plans and a strategy to be executed.

One point is absolute correct .If you want to destroy them, you must use the current opportunity. And a direct cross border raid .I have a real doubt about that.Because diplomatic fallout would be that much after that.Intelligence operations seems to your only choice.

.
in 70s (and even earlier) seperatist/irritant elements in Afghan soil came to us...and we sent them back defeated and in body bags as a response....now we SHOULD take the fight to those elements --and those who support them, whether its terrorist training centers, "consulates/safe-house" and the like :)

had Afghanistan not done the bidding of india and other enemies - we wouldnt need to take defensive actions in the first place

Afghans have been at war with themselves too - which we mustnt forget...its a fractured country

my point as well......and domestically, you can easily "sell" this idea to the masses - all you have to do is remind them that india has a hand in the destabilization and that will get even the most divided people to become united

so far the PPP and currrent PML-N have tried using diplomacy with the karzai administration...clinging onto false hopes and dreams. Karzai never had control outside of Kabul - and his career has expired. He's finished, and ready for his dismissal whether he likes it or not. He's going bye-bye

Pakistan has a rich cross-over of ethnic/tribal ties with Afghanistan not to mention given our vast experience there we know the inner workings and who to talk to, when to talk to them etc.

india geographically is irrelevant.....their only connection to the region is via Chah Bahar in Iran - and everyone knows that india wont risk alienating itself from amreeka and israel in order to deal with Iranians (or risk sanctions). So Chah Bahar is a non-starter and the Central Asians are land-locked.

india still has its puppets on the ground in Afghanistan but we will likely have developed counters to those....we have old contacts such as the older generation mujahideen the same way indian have contacts with their increasingly irrelevant northern alliance

as for Iran - despite their sneakiness, we have an interest not to get involved in a tug-of-war with them. Like Pakistan, their influence in Afghanistan is simply undeniable, namely in the western sector....as we are Islamic Republics we should set good examples by working together.

Abdullah Abdullah has a more conciliatory tone to him - he's not a puppet of india per se and he seems he would be friendly to both Pak, Iran and other relevant stake-holders. He'd also not flip-flop with the Americans (especially on the security pact which Karzai has been too scared to sign)

You should consider our humanitarian efforts in Afghanistan .Since 2001 we are spending billions of $ in Afghanistan.
Actually we Indians know its real advantage.Additionally we have 4 consulates in Afghanistan.Actually the interesting parties can figure out the expansion of our networks in Afghanistan , a partial effect of a humanitarian assistance .But only after nato withdrawal.

Not sure what makes pakisthan internet warriors feel that they can bomb there way into afganishtan.
Last time it took 10yrs + for one of the best armed nation yet they have to go back with heavy losses.
Now that Afgans have done there Phd in this sort of war fare, probably even nuking there cities would not solve the issue.

Only way forward is supporting Afgans and winning there hearts at grass root levels and making them friends and then slowly turning them in your favor. So that taliban leaders with extremism loose there ground with mass.

You dont need to bomb the top of building to make it fall, just loosen up the soil at foundation and it would fall on its own :)

khud ka felaya gund dusre saaf karey? Wow, this is ridiculous! As if Talbn has ever listened to any government. what kind of foolish statement was that. :hitwall:

Again where do you think all the money went? Isnt that the whole point, all that bad governance, corruption and treachery is the reason we have no money.

Another thing MI-17 is perfectly capable of conducting such mission backed by cobra's and fighter jets. Targets are always soften up before special forces move in and Pakistan has enough fire power at its disposal to hit Afghanistan and than move in to capture or kill high profile terrorists.

Actually we did bomb Afghanistan and on more than one occasion and it is only the internet Indians or certain Ex Pat Pakistanis who think Pakistan cannot. Just because India could not (and you guys are really butt hurt on this fact) does not mean others cant either. The only problem we have is the pathetic leadership of Zardari and now Nawaz.

The Deputy was travelling with NDS not with KHAD ...He was on his way to meet some R&AW officers to hit a deal ...

Turkish F-16s Said to Patrol Northern Iraq as Militants Advance

Turkish F-16 warplanes and drones have flown over northern Iraq to track the movement of Islamic militants, the Sabah newspaper said. Officials wouldn’t immediately confirm the report.

While Turkey’s air force has often in the past entered Iraqi airspace in response to threats posed by ethnic Kurdish rebels, the Sabah report signals heightened concern in Ankara over the advance of Sunni guerrillas of the Islamic State.

The militants have been holding hostage 49 diplomats, policemen and civilians, most of them Turkish, since they raided Turkey’s consulate in the Iraqi city of Mosul on June 11 at the beginning of a major offensive. Car bombings today in Kirkuk, occupied by forces of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan Regional Government, now an ally of Turkey, as the Islamic State advanced toward its front lines, have raised tensions further.

“Turkey is trying to gather intelligence against what it sees as a threat to its economic and energy interests in the region,” Oytun Orhan, an analyst at the Center for Middle Eastern Strategic Studies in Ankara, said by phone today in reference to Kurdish oil shipments via Turkey. “Turkey would support Iraqi Kurdish allies against the Islamic militants, however, the ongoing hostage standoff has seriously tied Turkey’s hands.”

Government, military and intelligence officials met for three hours today to discuss developments in Iraq and the security situation along Turkey’s southern border, Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglusaid.

Minorities Flee

The al-Qaeda breakaway group has this week won control of a string of towns and villages in the country’s north forcing tens of thousands of Christians and members of the Yezidi religious minority to flee their homes. The movement, earlier known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, today captured the country’s biggest dam near Mosul, according to Iraqi officials.

Turkey’s lira erased its gains following reports of the F-16 flights to trade 0.1 percent lower at 2.1612 per dollar at 2:57 p.m. in Istanbul. The yield on Turkey’s two-year lira notes jumped 8 basis points to 9.28 percent after the news, trimming today’s drop to 19 basis points, or 0.19 percentage point.

Davutoglu said Turkish aid supplies had been dropped in the mountains near Sinjar in northern Iraq, where about 50,000 Yezidis have taken shelter. He did not say whether Turkish aircraft carried out the operation. About 100 Yezidis crossed into Turkey and sought refuge in the border town of Silopi, authorities said.

Can Pakistan learn something from Turkey's mission?

I think you have been watching too many war movies. Real life is somewhat different.

When did India tried to attack Afghanistan?
Secondly its not about pathetic leadership, its about pathetic state of armed forces supplies, they cannot sustain long war, neither financially nor at resource replacement level.

Not to say the farted out internal security will have all its gut open when gorilla warfare would start inside country.

.
Two questions: Does Pakistan have the technical ability to carry out such a raid? And can Pakistan resist the inevitable fallout from such a step were it to be carried out?

Yes we have the capability. The fallout can also be controlled on the border. Fallout shall not cross the border.

Do not underestimate our power. If we do not wish to use it that does not mean we do not have it.

Are you kidding me dude, you have literally no idea about the situation in ground there, It seems that you're thinking that Pakistan would forcibly enter Afghanistan..and engage with everyone..are you serious !!!
All we need to do is targetted airstrikes on TTP hideouts in Nuristan and Kunar provinces close to the border carried out by PAF similar to the ones being carried in North Waziristan right now....Pakistan absolutely has the capability and the financial resources to do this, as we are already doing these kind of operations since the last decade...Probably a baffoon would believe that world's fifth largest military with nuclear power and $7-8 billion dollar annual budget lacks the finances to carry out precision airstrikes across the border in Afghanistan....better learn the facts before commenting !!!
