What's new

Afghan wants 150 Battle tanks and 1 Squadron of Attack choppers from India

Lol war starts with one side provide equipment and training military officer by another country.

Look at what US do to Israel, did we put opts on the ground for Israel? No. We simply armed them and train them. See how far we go with other Arab country?

Look here, I am not saying India should not be making friend or whatever, nor I am holding a grudge or bad vibe to Afghanistan or its army. I am simply telling you what I know and what I feel

What I know is this, ANA + ANP (actually ANP is kore important organisation for Afghanistan to be stable) is a competent force, I know this as I train them myself. However, I also know one fact and that is ANA and ANP may be enough to tackle a few province in Afghanistan but certainly not enough for the whole Afghanistan. ( I double they are even enough for the trouble in Helmand alone)

That is not the worse point tho, what worse is local afghani don't really trust the Karzai government, they see them as a puppet to the American

US indeed rebuild everything in Afghanistan in that 13 years, the only thing they did not rebuild is their military and police. Afghanistan still largely relied on militia force and NATO force to hold them together

I am not pro whom and against whom, I have no interest on the Middle East politic, this is simply what I saw and what I think. Take it or not is up to any individual

Lol I don't know nothing about Afghanistan and afghani...I was an intelligence officer with the US army and deployed in Afghanistan, this is my job to blend in with the afghani and talk to them lol.

I don't see how valid your point is,war fought not by culturally invade another country, nor does it matter wholly

Indeed USSF will probably stayed but would that be enough for them staying?

Anti insurgency largely involve human intel, it's matter of how many people you talk to, how much information you can vet, and finally how much trust your source put in you to tell you the truth

It does not matter if ANA is train by the CIA, let alone IA. They don't have enought people and network to source intel and they were not trusted enough by local populace to tell the truth, no amount of the training from anywhere can change that

Again I am saying we been over there for a very long time, situation is still more or less the same. If NATO and US have developed a serious local afghanistan fighting force, the situation maybe different. But today, on the eve of withdrawal, instability persist. That alone is saying something.

If you want trouble just because someone is liking Bollywood film and music, then man, India have some sort of strange foreign policy

Yeah, the American

If america do what they do in 1990's they may see another 9/11.I dont think USA do again that folly.India is not do large scale humanitarian before taliban rule but it is present case is not like that
,India also negotiate for iron ore development in afghanistan. So I have some doubt whether India and rest of the world pump so much money to afghanistan if it is again over throwed by taliban .

We can just wait and see what happen after 2014

Well , though your question is really interesting since it somehow points that New Delhi does care about Pakistan's interest but let me answer that . The answer to your question lies in your own country's opposition to every arms deal to Islamabad , by any side and of any scale . Oh , even if that is from Beijing . So , do me a favor , catch the next flight to Indira Gandhi Intl Airport and find it out from the Foreign Office or if you have to , from 7 , Race Course Road so we can all be enlightened ! :D

You missed the point, pakistan and india express displeasure when the other makes any arms gain - agreed.

But the article seems to suggest that india somehow cares, as you stated, about pakistan's reaction, that bit i find hard to digest, thats all I'm saying.

lol stop giving him heart attack buddy.

I sometimes laugh at Afghan people brain...they are so dumb that they dont realize indian game, they think indians doing them favor is out of love.

What a silly immature statement. Its like saying pakistanis are so dumb they dont realize chinese game, they think chinese doing them favor is out of love.

I certainly hope you are not a fanboy who actually believes in such crap when discussing geopolitics.

Unreasonable, only because we do not subscribe to your foreign policy.

Unreasonable because pakistan can not course correct, ever.

Aye, goes back to what I've been saying for a while now.
This method of propping up a government is tried and tested, verdict: unsustainable.

It's like, when you know your days are numbered, you attempt to postpone the inevitable.

Agreed, if you ask me, I think you folks have tasked yourselves up for an impossible task right from the get go.

Good call on the importance of the Afghan police though, most folks don't realise, those guys are on the front line, in some respects more so than the ANA itself. We should know, our police has taken on the TTP here, often due to their lack of training, equipment and co-ordination with each other and other forces, they end up taking huge casualties.

Lol yeah, for me, I told myself the whole war in Afghanistan is one giant manhunt, that's my way of justifying this war. We gone in there to find one guy, that's it

In term of insurgency, ANA being an armed unit, they are too coarse to use for tackling insurgency like this. For that you need real time intel and a lot of investigative work to solidify your intel. Police force is a good fit, they operate on their own local area of command, they know their area inside and out, they are the one who could (well beside ANSF) gather useful intel on the ground to target Taliban insurgent. ANA role is important too but only limited in theatre operation mode, ie after ANP squeeze out the insurgent, ANA destroy them.

In Afghanistan, US and NATO force tell their Afghanistan counterpart the importantce to share intel between ANA and ANP but all I can say is, it was not the case as in 2006 when I left Afghanistan

If america do what they do in 1990's they may see another 9/11.I dont think USA do again that folly.India is not do large scale humanitarian before taliban rule but it is present case is not like that

Lol I am not saying that you were wrong or anything, what I said is what I saw with my own eyes on ground in Afghanistan, and all I know is this (actually I know a lot more than that but I can't tell you) local population is not trusting anyone, they are like a grass in a breeze, they can go either way.

Now you are facing two factor in Afghanistan, either ANA getting more aggressive and filling up their rank first, then there may be chance that the local will swing to ANA. If not, they will once again open the road to Taliban when US left, because it definitely mean there are we sectarian violence once the US and NATO, and current strength of ANA cannot and would not be Strong enough to stop it

That's because Pakistan thinks that Afghanistan is Pakistan's own property, its protectorate, a State of Pakistan. So according to it, India has no business transferring any warlike equipment that may hurt Pakistani interests.

Secondly, it says they have requested for 82 mm mortars. We don't have any! What we have are 81mm mortars! :p:

I have not replied to this thread before not a single post because I believe Afghanistan has the right to buy anything from anyone so does India to sell anything to anyone.

BUT after reading yours and some of other Indians usual rondo comments about Pakistan, I am here to reply .

1. As someone said instead of talking about Pakistan you rondos should have been bitching about Indian govt for c not clearly committing such transfer.

2. Pakistan never threatened Afghanistan or anyone about any such purchase unlike you bharotis threatened Sri Lanka, BD for buying military hardware from China and Pakistan.

So the fact is that its you who are insecure and are under some misconception that BD or SL are your colonies .

have a good day

This is a defence forum for god sakes. I have observed plenty of posters on both sides posing as arm chair warriors.

I can't deny that we are a jingoistic lot. But India has legitimate aspirations in the region.

What is missing are the finer elements of diplomacy.

everyone has right to cultivate aspirations, there is no need to put a tail of legitimate with it.

This thread was specifically about Afghan demand and Indian commitment or otherwise so it was better if some of your members atleast refrained in this thread from becoming rondos about Pakistan

Meh.

After I have read western news comment boards. The difference between Indian and western commenters is the grammar.

The level of jingoism is actually the same

Yes you made reference to the level of rhetoric employed by the Indians in this thread.

I was referring tithe fact that it is par for the course in Internet debates as emotions are amplified to an unrealistic extent to pitch a point

:) yeh I have seen how they respond in comments section of their newspapers.

for this I hold Pakistani newspapers and The Hindu from India quality ones that do not promote jingoism by allowing uncivilized trash replies

I never got the point of that.

When I go to dawn newspaper. A lot of the Pakistanis are magnanimous in their replies.

Once in a while, I comment positively only if to return their positivity.

The commenters in the Hindu newspaper at least act like adults and string together sentences

Most of the people who comment on Pakistani news papers do write good comments ..... :).
