Quite recently I watched the Bollywood film Bajirao Mastani (باجی راؤ مستانی). It's an excellent film, no doubt. But the message and theme were quite disturbing for me.

Mastani (Mastani Bai), the heroine of the film was Muslim, daughter of a Hindu Raja who had married a Muslim (persian) lady Ruhani Bai.

Mastani fell in love with the Hindu Maratha Peshwa, Bajirao, who according to Bollywood was a symbol of terror for Muslim rule in India.

Mastani moved to Bajirao and presented herself in the name of 'ishq'. Bajirao's family didn't accept her; however Bajirao married her without any marriage rituals (only the Bride and the Groom attended the ceremony in private), none in the Maratha state acknowledged this marriage except Bajirao and Mastani was considered a 'Rakhel' (concubine) of the Peshwa.

Other sources say that Mastani's mother Ruhani Bai was also a Rakhel and not a wife, which may also meant that since Hindus could have only one marriage and later women in their harem were considered Rakhels?

A present day viewer of this film in India is taking the message (which was actually rephrased in the end of film also) that 'Ishq' has no religion. Therefore it implies that Muslim girls can marry Hindu boys, and if not marriage then they may sleep together in the name of 'Ishq' or live together as girlfriends and the vice versa.

Second theme of this film is that Hindus are the actual and lawful rulers of India. Mughals were an occupation force - Mughal's general, Muhammad Khan Bangash who had laid siege to Mastani's city was a crook and a loser as he was easily defeated by Bajirao. Bangash was leading a savage force as (Hindus) women in the besieged city had already set fire to die in it to prevent themselves from being raped or taken as concubines... now the Muslim rulers were shown as villains and Maratha Hindus as saviours.

Another message was that Muslim rulers of India were not only coward but deceitful also. It was presented through Nizam of Deccan whom Bajirao easily fooled with a clever strategy and forced him to sign a deal. Later in the end of film, it said that Nizam's son had broken the agreement which meant that Muslim rulers were deceitful also.

Finally, the actual message was that Hindus are the rulers, and if Muslims live with them, they have to live with them as 'Rakhels'. Bajirao also said that he was not against Islam but against oppression. It implies that India is secular, Muslims are allowed to live there but under the Hindu rule.

My Question

to India is why you are making such films to divide your country on the basis of religion? Why are you alienating the Muslim community of India by making such films while you claim you're a secular country?

Why are you brainwashing Hindu youth that Muslim rulers of the past were criminal intruders and rapists while you have Muslims as the largest minority in India? After watching such films aren't the Hindu youth going to hate Muslims of today as the reason they are in India was those criminal, rapist Muslim rulers?

What good are you going to achieve by making such films? That Marathas were champions?

Have you forgotten the defeat Marathas tasted in the 3rd battle of Paniput in which they were cleansed off the face of India for many years?

So are you going to make a film on this battle of Paniput or not?

Are you going to make a film on Aurangzeb who taught harsh lessons to Maratha ambitions?

Marathas were so great that's why they were annihilated by the British in the Anglo Maratha Wars and their dream to take over the whole of India couldn't come true...

And Pakistan, the country which was born in 1947 was another blow to the Hinduvta that shattered Maratha Hindu dreams?

Playing with religion

Mastani was shown to pray salah and after finishing it having intimacy with her Hindu lover. She also says that ishq is above God. There's a song called something like Ayat.

Now they intentionally included 'Islam' in the film to show 'ishq' is above Allah and Islam.

So what is the purpose of attacking a religion whose adherents are 172 million in number in your country?

I also wanna ask a question. But then i got my answer quite easily from a bunch of Indians themselves.

But I like the recent shift to social issues which art has always been a sensible choice and a powerful tool.

I don't follow media and know Bollywood out of curiosity but i think there must exist an easier market than " Pakistan's attacking us ".

And from what i have gathered that's just a Bollywood thing limited to North India. For example the Tamil industry pretty much started tackling social issues even in the 90s.

So the question

WASSUP WITH THAT

.
I am not saying that it was not possible that Hindus had Muslim wives or concubines in the past, or even today they don't get married or whatever. But why don't you show something otherwise? Why don't you show Hindu concubines of Muslim rulers who smashed Hindu rajas and defeated them in battles so easily? Why can't you show Mahmud of Ghazni as a hero like you did for Bajirao?

Can you make a film on Zaheeruddin Babur by portraying him as a great emperor?

Bollywood is a huge industry and it's being used by Indian Think Tanks to drive their viewers and voters as they wish. After watching a number of anti-Pakistan and anti-Muslim films, a Hindu voter can easily be convinced to vote 'for India' against the 'evil Muslims and devil Pakistan'.

Such Bollywood films are also good to make Indian Muslims feel guilty (of who they belong to) and make them dislike if not hate Pakistan. So the end result is, Muslim community of India will accept the living standard they've been given to by Hindu rulers, and they won't want to stand on their feet, neither in Kashmir nor elsewhere in India.

I don't know much about anti Muslim but I can understand your concerns being them in minority. But until they go anti Islam Muslims can be controlled easily.

But its again the question why just bollywood from the North India. Why a North Indian monopoly on this.

It's like the divide goes way deep to even till days when India was still called Dominion of India.

And I must admit that Bollywood is successful in its mission by making such masterpieces as Bajirao Mastani and Begum Jaan. By saying that I'm not promoting Bollywood or asking people to watch them :) but I want Pakistan to compete them on equal footings at least.

These days I'm seeing the trailer of 'Yalghar' on TV, and I'm seriously disappointed by the level of dialogue delivery and acting in it. Very stupid production it seems to have. Shan (the hero) speaks like an idiot, and another guy looks like a clown. ISPR needs to raise its standard, please discover good talent in Pakistan, get rid of these clowns who call themselves artists and make good films for Pakistani and even Indian audience.

People these days do not learn history lessons from books, but they watch films and dramas.

And don't forget that history repeats itself!

Muslim community speaks Urdu (close Hindi version), their majority lives in the North of India, that's the actual reason. Hindu ruling elites also belong to North India overwhelmingly.

I do not like Ranveer Singh at all, the reason he's a chichora and talks like an idiot. He was one reason why I didn't want to see Bajirao Mastani. The reason I watched this was the song Dewani Mastani in which Depika looked like someone from out of this world lol. But when I watched this film, I saw Ranveer did act very well, and except on a few occasions his dialogue delivery and acting was also very good.

The nut shell is, production should be excellent like that of Bajirao Mastani and Begum Jaan which will make people watch them.

ISPR, are you listening?

Pakistani private channels, are you viewing this?

Anyway, Padmavati پدما وتی is also coming up soon.

It's going to show how a terrorist called Alauddin Khilji (Muslim Sultan of Delhi) wanted to steal a Hindu queen. Allaudin stormed her city but Rani Padmini killed herself in fire and other women in the fort also threw themselves in fire for mass suicide because they were not willing to be either raped or taken as concubines by Muslim soldiers... Muslims are bad guys, aren't they?

You know a bit too much bollywood and awkwardly too well for a Pakistani.

Please continue

Muhammad Khan Bangash was an eighty year old man at his death yet they showed him to be a young villain. Bangash died a natural death and in the film he is defeated and killed by Maratha. Its all fiction. Muhammad Khan Bangash never fought with Bajirao.....In fact he successfully subdued Bundelkhand

I haven't studied about Muhammad Khan Bangash, maybe you're right about this. But the problem is once something whether true or untrue is covered in a film, it's viewed by millions who are not going to debate with you on whether or not what they saw was right. Films and dramas have way too much impact on the masses, because only a few persons actually go through historical facts.

Thats true. I usually dont watch the garbage masala movies of Bollywood but some Bangash guy requested me to look into the part about Muhammad Khan Bangash whether he really was a man as depicted in the film. These Kachra Bollywood movies has indeed tremendous impacts on the minds of people of subcontinent. Now this Mastani was a daughter of prostitute (Prostitutes did not have any religions, both Hindus and Muslims were their customers). Now Maratha elite families understandably looked down upon low origins of Mastani. But as she had born from seeds of a Bundela Raja so her name appears in history. I have not watched the film after Muhammad Khan Bangash scene so i dont know where they were going with all this. But from your post it appears they took the usual route. Protagonist can not be a Muslim boy marrying a Hindu girl as it will be upsetting for 80% of India which means less business and flops for Director and Producer , even though in history it was usually Muslim men taking Hindu wives not vice versa. Akbar is tolerated by Hindus so they made Jodha Akbar on it even though there was nothing romantic about Akbar forcing Rajput raja to surrender his daughter to him. Even then many Hindus were understandably unconformable about that film. Muslim history in India is very rich and very interesting. lot of Tv series and films can be made on it but Hindus dont relate to it which is not good from business point of view as most of their audience is Hindu. I doubt they will ever make some film or TV on romance between Baz Bahadur Afghan and Roopmati. But their country , their rules and their ways.

Now you have tagged ISPR. Why is that?. ISPR is concerned with Pakistan army and only make propaganda shows about it. Are you expecting some sort of counter-propaganda from ISPR in this regard?. They were not allotted money to do counter-propaganda about Marathas of past history and before.

You have also tagged Private channels. The TV series on Pakistani private channels are garbage. Aimed at female household audience. Written by female Digest writers who are frogs in the well. The TV series on Pakistani channels have no depth to story, no creative writing or fresh concepts and acting is poor. They cant even produce non-historical quality shows let alone historical dramas.

Dont take indians seriously, according to their history, Prithvi Raj Chauhan killed Ghauri Shaheed, in reality ! PRC died earlier than Ghauri ...
