btw any idea where rasgulla actually originated, i read somewhere, its origin is from city of Varanasi.

Its from Odisha. Odia cooks made this dish. later when they served under landlord in Kolkata , it was adopted widely there. If you ever have a chance , go to a place Pahala which is in between cuttack and Bhubaneswar . wonderful warm rasagulla there .
