3 Chinese warships reach Ctg Port on goodwill visit

BD needs a very powerful and advanced frigate and Type-054C is perfect for this role. With it's powerful radar and 48-cell VLS that can quad-pack medium-range SAMs, it will be equal of any ship in the Indian Navy.

Actually by the time it is available for export & one gets build, we would have next generation destroyers.

Nope as BD would not buy even if offered as it does not recognise them.

I know.

That remains to be seen.

The last of the Visakhapatnam-class destroyers are only due to be commissioned in 2024. These will have 32 cells for Barak-8 ER(100km range) and 16 cells for Brahmos.

Actually the expected specs for the Type-054C/57 actually are a lot better than the Visakhapatnam-class since the 48 VLS cells can carry a mix of missiles and torpedos. So we could have 16 cells with long-range 100km+ HQ-9 SAM, 16 squad-packed with 70km medium-range SAMs for a total of 64, and the remaining 16 can house a mix of cruise missiles and anti-sub torpedos.

Any idea what we can expect for the next-gen Indian destroyers? Any credible rumours floating around?

Actually the reason for such a timeline is the construction of P-17A class frigate which will be inducted from 2022, at the rate of 2 ships per year. That means that two drydocks of GRSE & two of Mazagon will be free by 2022-23.

What is the timeline of induction of Type 054C in PLAN ? It would be even a longer for BD, if it ever went for local production. And acquiring a ~$800 million frigate requires finances.

We don't have multimission VLS because we simply can't have them for Brahmos & Barak 8. ;) And the weapons load out of Vishakhapatanam will include a Nirbhay VLS & an SRSAM. Indian VL-ASROC named 'SMART' is now under development.

Anyway which Chinese MRSAM can be quadpacked, that's SRSAMs I guess.

Heard that it might be based on enlarged Shivalik hull, that means a beamy hull with a lot of space for VLS.

I think that BD will probably buy 2 direct from China and take TOT on say another 6. Induction timeline could be 2022-2030. Price wont be anywhere near 800 million US dollars each - 4-500 US million dollars is more realistic and remember China will offer BD soft loans as always to buy them.

Actually Chinese quad-packed medium range SAMs currently have range up to 50km - missile is DK-10. In the next decade ranges of 70km will be possible.

So looks like India next-gen destroyer may be a 10K beast? Hope India makes it completely indigenous apart from engines. Hull, radar, missiles should all be Indian even if they are slightly inferior to what can be imported as otherwise India will never be competitive in the arms field. Around 100 VLS cells that can take a variety of missiles, torpedos etc and it should be better and more powerful than anything China has bar the upcoming Type-055 destroyer.

A Chinese ocean-going naval fleet completed its friendly visit to Bangladesh and left the Port of Chittagong at about 10:00 am on May 26, local time, and then sailed to Sri Lanka for friendly visit.

After leaving the Port of Chittagong, the Chinese naval fleet conducted a joint maritime drill with the Bangladesh Navy in northern waters off the Bay of Bengal.

The guided-missile destroyer Changchun (Hull 150), the guided-missile frigate Jingzhou (Hull 532) and the comprehensive supply ship Chaohu (Hull 890) of the Chinese PLA Navy, as well as the guided-missile frigates BNS Abu Bakar (F15) and BNS Bijoy (F35) of the Bangladesh Navy participated in the joint drill.

During the drill, the five naval ships took command of the five subjects of the drill in turn, and both sides also dispatched their observers to each other’s ships in the whole process of the drill.

“The drill has further upgraded the joint command and coordination capabilities between the two sides and further deepened the mutual trust and cooperation between the two navies,” said Rear Admiral Shen Hao, commanding officer of the Chinese naval fleet on foreign visit mission.
