What's new

2nd ship of India's new destroyer line, the Visakhapatnam-class, will be launched on Sept 17

16 brahmos, in future it may change as brahmos ng with half the weight and more speed.
It will have improved barak 8 (90+ km range instead of 70) or barak 8er with 150 km range.
maitri and barak 8 are entirely different class(qrsam vs lrsam).
afaik kolkata dont have barak 1( as barak 8 covers the range with .5km), so visakha won't have maitri either.

On the ndtv site it was 73000:p:, here i corrected it.

To truly be a guided missile destroyer, it needs a 300-700+km ranged SAMs like the SM-3s, and be laced with more medium and short ranged SAMs, increase the capacity of Brahmos drastically, have CWIS with their own independent detection systems unlike the AK-630s, and also have Nirbhay LACM.

You just described the Project 18

AFAIK we haven't started modular construction yet. Nor i have seen any one talking about modular construction in vishakha. Alhogh one poster above quoted it to be modular @R!CK
They are not built in vizag....!! They are built at GRSE which is using modular construction since 2013

I think he meant Vishakapatnam class.

And They are being built at MDL, not GRSE. GRSE is currently executing orders for Karmota class corvettes, Water jet fast attack crafts (WJFAC) and Fast patrol vessels (FPV). In future, 3 P17A frigates will be built by GRSE.

how about a reference? any test reports, ?

I too have come across similar reports- In warmer areas It is not performing well-

You just described the Project 18

Since we are oil importing economy and now that we have developed a 100MW Compact High temperature reactor a scaled PT of the final reactor to be used in SSN and SSBN programs- Can this be used in the next Project 18 Guided Missile Destroyer- It needs fuel only after 15 years of service-

Navy to launch warship ‘Mormugao’ on Saturday: All you need to know about the P15B destroyer Published
September 16, 2016 SOURCE: FIRST POST

The second ship of the Project 15B, a guided missile destroyer christened ‘Mormugao’ for Indian Navy, will be launched in Mumbai on 17 September. The navy aims to take the level of indigenisation to 68 percent in this project.Noting that in the last one year the Indian Navy has inducted five ships, which includes three warships, Vice Admiral GS Pabby said this is the first time the naval forces have built so many ships of a class — 10 ships of 15, A and B class — and this process has helped in indigenisation. In 2011, the government had sanctioned four 15B ships at the cost of Rs 29,700 crore. The first ship of the project, guided-missile destroyer ‘Visakhapatnam’, was launched on 20 April last year. The hull of the 7,300-tonne ‘Mormugao’ warship, which is constructed on dry area, will be floated on water for the first time — which is a milestone event for any vessel. According to NDTV, the Mormugao is 163 metres long and is powered by four Ukranian gas turbine engines to achieve speeds over 56 km per hour. Fitted with the Barak-8 long-range missiles, it has been named after the picturesque Mormugao port of Goa, the home state of Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar. The key sensor of the destroyer is its Israeli-designed Multi-Function Surveillance Threat Alert Radar (MF-STAR), which has been designed to find targets in the air hundreds of kilometres away. The Mormugao is also armed with the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile. The Mazgoan Shipyard, which is building the ship will also outsource work for 10 blocks to involve private ship building yard in the programme. For the first time in its history, Mazagon Dock in 2015-16 achieved a value of production (VOP) above Rs 4,000 crore with an operating profit of Rs 218 crore. Detailed design of the futuristic stealth frigates, P17A, is currently in progress and work on it is expected to start early 2017.

ICYMI: 1st official images throw new light on stealth of India's P17A future frigate line

And finally we have those ugly RBU 6000:mad:. Deck was quiet beautiful and clean without them. Can't they just replace it with something more stealthy or remove it like FREMM.Earlier pics didn't had them.
