2014.6 ISIS hijack a Chinese engineer in Iraq, China kidnap terrorist's family to exchange hostage

1. It did not happen.

Thank god it did not happen, But my question was a hypothetical one...... I am sure they must have considered this while kidnapping the family member...... Let us not forget you are dealing with savages.........

More over even if you kidnap them do you think the local govt will support such actions on innocent citizens?

.
You cannot fight these people. These people are driven by religion. They are not afraid to die fighting. Best is to lay low and do not attract attention to yourself. Unfortunately Abe joined the collective defense with US and then this

Japanese PM Shinzo Abe pledges $200 million to Mideast to fight ISIS - The Times of India

Note the amount Japan pledge and the ransom amount.
Bear in mind its not just Middle East. There are Japanese tourist, journalist all over the world. They are no longer safe.

Wrong policy. Embedding to the US as a sidekick in its war on terror is a strategic mistake on part of Mr. Abe.

Like China does, Japan should also stick with a political solution to the particular crisis in Syria-Northern Iraq.

.
I think they can't reach higher amount for a Chinese engineer.
China would not pay more.

Japan even pay Zero to terrorists.

So who benefit the terrorists ?
A responsible government should try many ways to save the citizen's life when threated by foreign terrorism, THX! We get back a Living Person not a Dead Body.

@cnleio : btw, who is in your avatar ?

I agree with @TaiShang --- its best that Japan does not get too involved. A token $200 million is insignificant for us , and next time, we should only contribute in humanitarian aid. It should be limited.

I gave my response as a private citizen to the hypothetical question.

Reality: The strategy has proven successful.

About the local government and innocent citizens. Innocent citizens were not harmed. So, local government was fine.

What Indian government would do in such situation?

Would it be able to craft a working strategy?

Would the Indian government be able to mobilize diplomatic channels effectively, work with the local government, and secure the capturing of terrorist relatives?

What would Indian government do with the captured persons if the terrorists killed the Indians?

My hypothetical questions.

. .
cool story, but if they 'kidnapped' the ISIS guy's family then it should've been a fair exchange, why the 500k $ ? :what:

.
$500.000 each they will target anyone.

I am troubled by the trend though, if ISIS kill the hostage what happens do you shoot the family?

valid point

A state cannot behave like a terrorist orgnisation and counter Hijack to barter.

If what the article says is true, the Chinese may have got away one time but they like all other nations have way too many soft targets across the region and stand exposed for similar acts .

Ask the terrorists. They are becoming greedy, I guess. Which is so irreligious. Caliph of Baghdad and Sham, you hear?

What would India do?

.
Okay, pls just tell me ... is there only one chance for our government to say YES or NO to terrorist demand ? Only one answer to determine the life of the hostages ??

Just change our mind ... why not threat to the terrorist, make Ransom down or hostages exchange to each other ?
There'r always other ways to end hostage crisis, just don't waste time on TV.

It wont be long when we face such situation.....Infact we had 2 such situation where bunch of Indian citizens were held hostages, But Indian govt used its diplomatic channels to get them released....... and those poor souls were brought back to india.......

Now knowing India and its agencies, India will never take a stand like the one you mentioned........

Amazing. The world should copy India.

Now that all cases of terrorism are exactly similar(!), I wonder why Mr. Abe did not copy the Indian way.

.
I believe most ISIS members don't care others, even their families. They are more like animals than human beings. So the method won't work in all cases.

I dono..... You should ask them ....... Well but i can guarantee you We cannot/willnot kidnap a family member of a terrorist and start negotiating with the terrorist for exchange of the hostages...... What difference you could make out between a nation and a terrorist?

This is how India works, I cant say we are right and you are wrong......

Good for you. You never pay.

I think it makes sense because if you start the tradition, the economy may tank.

Better never visit India to help Indian government save money.

The 7 Countries Where You're Most Likely to Get Kidnapped for Ransom

INDIA (2,975 kidnappings in 2010)
Where you're getting kidnapped:Depends who you are. Child abductions are a major epidemic in India and can occur right in the family's home. The more traditional adult-nappings, however, happen primarily on streets in major cities.
Who’s getting kidnapped: Mostly children, but as India’s economy has grown, middle-class Indians have become a bigger target. Foreign and tourist abductions are rare.
Who’s doing the kidnapping: Indian kidnappings are not particularly well-organized, and often used by the poor as a way to score quick money; could be a street vendor, could be a typical street criminal.
How they're kidnapping you:Indian kidnappers don’t have much interest in killing you, and their ransoms are usually pretty low. And negotiable. Assuming your family is willing to pay and not still upset about the argument you started at Thanksgiving dinner, you should be released within a few days.
