2014.6 ISIS hijack a Chinese engineer in Iraq, China kidnap terrorist's family to exchange hostage

Good Move China. Capture the Terrorist Family in exchange of Prisnor.
We have to be aggressive when dealing with ISIS Scum.

.
These ISIS vermin demanded $200 million per Japanese hostage and we did not pay due to the extreme amount. It is outrageous how much they demanded from us, and I fear that more and more Japanese citizens might be targetted again. I empathize with Chinese side about hostage situation since even to us --- 1 Japanese life is priceless. :(

Its unfortunate and true ! Our governments are the ones pouring billions to develop that region, and look at where our investments have gone. Incinerated through this conflict. Not only do we have no ROI, but these terrorists are targetting our people. @TaiShang and I discussed this issue this past weekend and you know what, I'm seeing his point of view more clearer each passing day. Perhaps we should consider our investments there as lost and prevent further bloodshed of our citizens.

Such wanton destruction. I don't want anymore Japanese civilians going there...

Exactly, sir! Consider the investment gone since the region is poised to a lengthy and even bloodier future.

Europe's sectarian past is the Middle East's future, unfortunately. Blame this on lack of secular thinking and deeply-rooted tribalism/factionism.

Selling stuff is OK, but deep engagement is very dangerous. The region is way too complicated for our mundane and secular thinking to comprehend.

On the hostage issue, China has done the right thing. I would not even object to Japan's paying 200 million or whatever to save its citizens. That will encourage ISIS? Be it! Just keep your citizens safe and stop issuing civilian passports to the region. Inform your citizens once and for all and if there are still people in Jihadist mind (like some Uighur terrorists), then, make sure they never come back in one piece.

Stop the liberal or developmentalist rhetoric. The Middle East, with its high potential to provide enough manpower for ISIS and the likes, is a lost cause for our generation and the generations to come, probably.

As Jack Ma says, change the world is a US business.

I wonder how the terrorists' families would be treated if they didn't get the deal

There is no ISIS in southern Iraq, these are crime gangs who usually kidnap for ransom apparently not enough is being done to get the away from the city.

They usually target kids of rich families and ask for ransom, usually ranging from 50k-300k and sometime negotiable. Although they are rare, but the kidnappings are noticeable.

Some of the 500k probably went to some of the commissioners who helped kidnap the other kidnappers family. They seem to have did it for money as well and not out of good will.

A interesting old news reported in 2014.6, when the ISIS grew up in Iraq areas. Chinese mainstream medias ever reported it, but in that time most Chinese ppl like me just ignore such interesting story how the China government to deal with hostage case in a foreign nation.

Of course the truth is not China government directly send men to save the hostage in Iraq, they used other ways to kidnap terrorist's family to exchange the Chinese engineer back. Anyway also THANKS local Iraq government & soldiers to help us.

2014.6.12 South Iraq, Halfaya Oifield ... a 24-year old Chinese engineer was hijacked by a anti-government force, China government & CNPC used diplomatic ways to work with local Iraq government & Army, some days later they held terrorist's family and requested for hostages exchange to both sides. 6.17 the Chinese hostage safely return China and CNPC company additionally pay 500,000 USD to the kidnapper.
it's interesting how they handled the case. so Iraq gov actually know who the kidnapper's family were?

OK. I'm not arguing about the money issue, life is priceless of course. I'm arguing about the terms of hostage exchange. I certainly don't think the terrorist would say "Send my mum over with 500K USD." lol. You know what I mean?
  1. If u make foreign terrorist afraid nothing, they will kill the hostage.
  2. If u make foreign terrorist feel angry, they also will kill the hostage.
  3. If u refuse foreign terrorist's requirement, they also will kill the hostage.
  4. If u make foreign terrorist afraid & care something, they willing to talk with u.
  5. If u r smart, let foreign terrorist make a choice between The hostage or Their family ... to end the crisis for each sides.
  6. The 500,000 USD will slove some troubles inside Local government + Military force + Anti-government force, how local ppl used the money is not China government's business, the only result is we successfully save Chinese citizen's life here.

.
OK. But feels like Ah Q don't you think? One for one exchange, but still give red packet & say thanks. o_O
If the terrorist don't give in the demand, you expect PRC to torture the terrorist family member or threaten to kill them like terrorist to force the terrorist to give in?

Of coz by offering money and family member freedom, it will sweeten the deal.

.
good idea.............

it can work as deterrent ...............target families of terrorists ....................if they dont turn in ....bomb their homes ...........confiscate their property ...........

. .
This is an out of the box idea.......... But If the terrorist kills the hostage, then what would have been china's response????

Kill the family of the terrorist?

1. It did not happen.

2. We do not know who are those "relatives." Could be a terrorist commander uncle, as well.

3. Only China's strategists directly related to the issue would be able to give you a definite answer. And I guess they will never tell you what they would have done had the entire strategy gone wrong.

Personally, I do not know I would do. Depends on the circumstances. If any of the captured members had been proven to be even slightly linked with the terrorists, I would at least make sure those people did not see the daylight again.

I say nothing, OKay ?!

Indians like to read your mind, put the words in your mouth and then generalize it to an entire nation. So, be wary when you engage them in a debate. The safest way is to ignore.

Light as a feather, brother, light as a feather...

You cannot fight these people. These people are driven by religion. They are not afraid to die fighting. Best is to lay low and do not attract attention to yourself. Unfortunately Abe joined the collective defense with US and then this

Japanese PM Shinzo Abe pledges $200 million to Mideast to fight ISIS - The Times of India

Note the amount Japan pledge and the ransom amount.
Bear in mind its not just Middle East. There are Japanese tourist, journalist all over the world. They are no longer safe.
