100% price escalation on Rafale fighter aircraft to Rs 1.75 lakh crore likely to dent IAF's strike c

Every Body: Just Chill.
Let the things get done. such news leaks are not important. what matter is nature of the ToT deal India and France have agreed upon. When details of that deal will come out in public, only then we will understand the reason of Price Hike.

Rafale cost is
Unit costRafale B: 71.2 million, US$95.6 million(flyaway cost, FY2011)[3]
Rafale C: 66.2 million,US$88.8 million (flyaway cost, FY2011)[3]
Rafale M: €76.1 million, US$102 million (flyaway cost, 2011)[3]
Unit cost: €64 million, US$90.5 million (dependent on type/variant and can be as high as €90 million/US$124 million, 2009)[5]
Eurofighter

Unit cost £64.8 million (Tranche 1 & 2)[5]€90 million (system cost Tranche 3A)[6]
£125m (including development + production costs)

Deal is fair. Any bleeding edge jet will be expensive.

no sir India will never invest in F18s as the latest encounter (devyani case) as bolstered it thought F18 is most potent and economically sound alternative ... but Indians dont trust US

no sir India will never invest in F18s ... voluntarily.

Diplomacy takes many sorts and forms when it comes to financial gains. I have been saying this since the last 3 years.
The Americans will drag their feet, they will NOT let the french take this money and arm twisting leverage.
The Americans will destroy the deals if they are not going to win it.

it will be stupdity to buy these planes at this very moment when the real threat (from China and not Pak) cannot be dealt (defensively or offensively) with such aircrafts in the numbers that could be bought.

Just imagine if billions of rupees are plowed into local programs.

LCA experience may be bad

But conditions in India have dramatically changed in the last 15+ years.

Involving public-private partnership and spending this kind of dough will ultimately result in 10 times more planes than buying complete system from outside.

it is time for Indian baboos to trust Indian youth's intelligence and smarts to develop things inn a nice manner

When a country can send a mission to mars,

then it doesn't need to spend money on buying completely/finished systems or complete system kits.

This rafale deal along with Rafale scam, Rafale spare part scam and Rafale land acquisition scam will cost us over 40bill $ in the next 30 years. Cancel it now and build our own plane. India has to grow balls. Enough of this beggar crap!!!!

Well said

My thoughts!

As a dispassionate military historian.

Baboos in the ministries and politicians will make money in this deal and people will lose.

They will make money for themselves, their relatives and their relatives of relatives. They will get free family vacations to France every 6 months. Its a dream come true for Indian diplomats involved in this project.

Anyhow coming to point. I am not against imported components. India can easily design and medium size plan like rafale in 2-3 years. Even if lets say 80% of the avionics are imported atleast the design is Indian. Buying this off the shelf plane brings almost nothing for India.

you know the sad thing?

If these baboo baboons, do not loot taxpayers' money, overall economy of the country would be rich enough.

to support directly their travels around the world.

We all just need a different perspective and a bit more patience.

Exactly!

The Gripen did not come cheap to Brazil - it costed 4.5 billion for 36 jets - 125 million a piece.

Rafale pricing wasn't much too different or much higher than 125 million, though one can argue about operational costs.

It did, but the total price of an order is related to the total number of fighters that will be procured. The lower the number, the higher the total / unit cost. The Rafale was the most expensive fighter in the Brazilian competition, be it per unit or operational costs. The fly away cost was reported between $80 and 90 millions, the system cost between $145 and 200 million, while in Switzerland 18 x Rafales were offered for a system cost of around $167 millions each.
But as I said, even if the system cost for us would be at $150 millions eact, we still would only be arount $19 billions, far away from the speculated $25 or even 30 billions and the most important figure to compare the price is the fly away cost, which always was far below $100 millions, contrary to what the opening article said.

You mean like the billions China spend in R&D but still remains far behind Russia or the west in engine or radar developments, despite sending rockets to the moon? :disagree:
Please, lets not get into pointless discussions here, money is not equal to know how and experience, that's why JVs partnerships and cooperations will give India far more than money could buy.

Though your point of view is very much valid...the whole process and the thinking behind it is much more complicated than that.

also,

pls credit the IAF to know what its doing and know what it requires to take care of a threat.

Why you always try to challenge China by spending hundreds of Billions on military even when your people are so poor?

30 billions USD could help lots of poors out living under the poverty line.
