The purchase from Indonesia which includes 100 meter gauge and 50 broad gauge coaches within February 2017

Ten new passenger coaches have been imported from Indonesia and sent to Saidpur Railway Workshop.

The modern coaches reached the workshop on Tuesday and the railway workers are now conducting inspection to prepare the coaches for trial run, sources said.

BR sources said that the coaches were made specifically for Bangladesh’s particular needs by PT Inka (Persero). PT Inka is a state- owned train manufacturer, the first fully integrated rolling stock and
automotive manufacturer in Southeast Asia.

Shawkat Jamil, divisional traffic officer of Bangladesh Railway (BR) West Zone (Rajshahi), said: “BR imported the coaches under a bilateral agreement between Bangladesh and Indonesia. Among the coaches one is AC berth, three are AC chair and rest six are Shovon chair.”

Workers at the workshop told the Dhaka Tribune that these coaches are of better quality than the Indian coaches.

Divisional Caretaker of Saidpur Railway Workshop, Nur Ahmed Hossain, said: “After completing the inspection, we will hand over the coaches to Railway traffic department for test runs.”

Indonesia: INKA to export railcars to Asia and Middle East

Indonesian train manufacturer Industri Kereta Api (INKA) will expand
its railcar export to other countries in Asia and the Middle East after
completing an order from Bangladesh. The company is preparing to
expand its export to Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Egypt, according to
President Director Agus H. Purnomo.

INKA has already exported 150 railcars to Bangladesh Railways to be used on its Sonar Bangla Express train, connecting the capital Dhaka to Chittagong. INKA will complete the delivery of its railcars before the end of this year.

India has been using its influence in ADB to target BR. Not only that, from young officers up to DGs are regularly invited by Indian Rly in some pretext or the other, and feted well.

I think it is commodities like foodstuff that have shown decline in import from India. It is probably the heavy growth in agriculture products that has caused the decline. The GoB is always careful not to put all its eggs in one single basket of India.

I'm glad we are no more buying railway coaches from India.
By the way, good news for Bangladesh-Indonesia relations.

How luxurious is Bangladesh's first luxury train service?
Prior to the Eid holidays, the Bangladesh Railway introduced the first luxury train service of the country, the "Sonar Bangla Express", on the Dhaka-Chittagong route.

This was said to be the second non-stop train service of Bangladesh and also the fastest among the 15 trains, after Subarna Express, on this route. The new and improved train boasts of attractive new features like - large windows, spacious seats, quality food service, etc. Fans and LED lights are not centrally controlled, so passengers have the choice to turn them on or off at their own will.

I meant who is the local contractor? Looks like stripped down model of the coaches brought.

That's not surprising. The sub-standard quality of Indian products is the reason why India's exports are falling.

Typical Bangladeshi non sense. There is nothing wrong with LHB coaches. These are even fit for service up to 200 kph, though your compatriot Bilal would never accept this.
