Need suggestion for a roof top based Solar water heater!!

Well wishers, I want to have a 300 ltr roof top water heater for our college kitchen (mainly to reduce fuel required for boiling rice, dal and potatoes). Previously I had planned for TATA BP Solar but yesterday in an exhibition I saw evacuated tube wala solar water heaters. With TATA I saw the flat paneled water heaters. I want start with 100 ltr capacity.

My question is does any one of you have any experience with solar water heaters and which one will be best? Please don't quote from google or net. Articles are contradictory!! Cost wise comparison does not matter for me.

Yes we had solar water heater in India. It worked well for about 5-8 years. But poor maintence had reduced its capacity and now we don't use it anymore.
I do not know the brand and its capacity.
Monsoon lasts for about 4-5 months in Kerala, but despite the clouds we used to get lukewarm water from our solar heater.

We have a TATA BP at our home, but if you have hard water then it does require maintenance at least once a year.

Today I contacted one dealer who deals in evacuated tubular heaters. The price is 16000/- per 100 ltr. plus wiring and labour etc. He said he will give 10 yrs warranty on it. The price of flat panel is more though he does not deal it and said it will give less heat than tubular. Flat he said gives 60deg while tube will give 70-75 degree. And flat takes a whole day for 100 ltr which can be utilized in the next day and tube can give another 100 ltr during mid day. Is that correct?

As there is no heat loss through convection and conduction in evacuated tube collectors, these systems heat water more efficiently than flat plate absorbers. Pay close attention to the term "efficiency" here, which means heating efficiency per active absorber unit, not the total device efficiency or output.. .. .. Absorber area ratio and collector's gross size will determine the active area together..... evacuated tube collectors have a higher efficiency, especially in winter, flat plate collectors can match their efficiency during summer when there is a small difference between the temperature of the heated water and that of the ambient environment....

maintenance : Evacuated tube collectors are practically maintenance free.

Perfect! I'm also finalizing purchasing a solar water heater for my house. First thing is, although sw heater is available everywhere, there are few companies that are approved in each states and mnre or local govt bodies will give 30-60% subsidy for home use. ETC is preferred for home use while FTC may be more suitable for large establishments. plumbing with cpvc pipes costs extra. some says slight iron/coppery taste may come with FPC swh.

In Kerala, there are two companies that are approved. I've contacted both AECO, ANGAMALY, KERALA, INDIA and Solar Water Heaters - kraftwork solar . They're quoting Rs17000-17500 for fitting without plumbing. I will get Rs3000 subsidy from Kerala government ANERT - http://www.anert.gov.in/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=93&Itemid=47 .Hope other state governments will also have such subsidy programs. I heard in hills, subsidy amount may be slightly more.

Thanks, I will install one 100 ltr (evacuated) on trial basis. Presently the company has asked me to install a sintex water tank at near by place at minimum 6'-0" more than the solar heater tank. My kitchen consume 30000/- of wood, 20000/- of gas and 10000/- of coal per month. If this will reduce at least wood portion of fuel, then I will install further 200 ltr capacity.
