Saudi Arabia to double its Typhoon order

Depends on what variants are you talking about. Most likely, the Saudis will be getting their own version of Trench 2 & 3 - which are one of the world's most advanced jets.

Don't forget asking the TOT......look at South Korea bidding, they even will help KFX/IFX and put 20 % investment in KFX/IFX if Typhoon is selected by SK. With that number, it can be so foolish if Saudi doesn't get significant TOT.....at least the fly by ware system with canard and AESA technology should be on the table.

Depends on what contract are you referring to. For example, Boeing was more flexible than BAE. We are now building several parts of both aircarfts. Here some ToT and JVs we ran with our partners:

Just to be fair, for the sake of the argument, SK is head and shoulders above all South East Asian countries in terms of military technology barring to China and Japan. I hardly think we can compare their industrial complex with ours :) at least for now.

RSAF still need more of that bird maybe around 80 to the additional ones.

True. Let just wait till we retire the Tornados - which probably be retried by the mids of the 20s - at the time where we can be safe enough to examine the F-35s.

But there is only one problem left with the F-35s that's it has a single engine.

The F-35 still has some technical glitches, once are dealt with may be we can go for it despite its single engine.

Is there any defined standard in RSAF to only adopt the Double Engine jets or u r just kidding?

If u r serious, then JF-17 is also single engine jet.

The JF-17 has never been intended to be procured by the RSAF in the first place. The SANG is ..

KSA is close enough to Israel that JF-17 has sufficient range to suit KSA's offensive needs. :bounce: Block 3 is the first time JF-17 can be exported, when WS-13A engine rated at least 22,000 pounds ready and JF-17 production at PAC ramped up to at least 25 per year by 2016, ensuring supply to PAF in addition to exports.

Saudis continue to waste money on expensive toys.

Its better to put this money into creating Military Academies and training competent officers who can lead Saudi forces.

Thats why i am not much sure about JF-17 export to Kingdom, if it happens, then it will be a miracle or KSA will just inject few million $$$ to help Pakistan.

How are you going my Indonesian brother?

Still expecting even closer ties with the Arab world, in particular the Peninsula and Indonesia so we can strengthen the ancient ties.;)

You are very right. Asking for TOT is crucial.

Why would Saudi Arabia buy the JF-17?

They can buy the most advanced Fighters in the World from Euro Fighter, JF-35, F-15, etc.

JF-17 is no where near as technologically capable as these fighters.

Adding more Typhoons will be good for KSA as it will increase their top tier fighting capabilities, but it will be their wise decision if they purchase JF-17s because they hold major stakes in SELEX and they can put Vexen 1000E AESA radar or similar one from west on it which will increase it potential many folds, even if they dont add any thing new, and just go for for Block-II specification it will still be their work horse as it may be able to take place which was left by F-5s and soon Tornados will go to, with JF-17s KSA will be able to sent strike package escorted by Typhoons or new F-15s and for any foe it will be very formidable as JF-17s can hold on its own against foes and reducing pressure on escorting fighter which will be able to perform fighter sweep.

So sorry! But you know nothing. We maintain the two " academies " policy and will continue to do so.

JF-17 is extremely advanced. Typhoon is an older design. JF-17 compared to Typhoon is like F-16 compared to F-15, the former essentially a single engine version of the latter. Typhoon lacks state of the art DSI air intakes that JF-17 has. 8-)
