David C Isby, Washington - IHS Jane's Missiles & Rockets

04 December 2013

Pakistan has publicised a recent VIP demonstration of its Hatf 9/Nasr single-stage solid-propellant short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) as a potential counter to India's Prahaar SRBM. Both missiles were first flight tested in 2011.

The Pakistani demonstration was conducted on 5 November 2013, and involved the salvo firing of four Hatf 9 missiles. It was watched by an audience that included the Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, the Director General of the Strategic Plans Division, Lieutenant General (retired) Khalid Ahmed Kidwai, the Chairman of the National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM), Muhammad Irfan Burney, and Commander Army Strategic Forces Command, Lieutenant General Tariq Nadeem Gilani.

Dafaq!! Wasnt nasr tersted before prahaar and actually prahaar was a counter to Nasr??

Forget who invented the shortest range missile first, although India' Prithvi was fifteen years back 350 mile range and is in the categorically in the short/shortest range missiles.

The key point is which one is more accurate and reliable and which one will launch and hit in 6 minutes interval.

Then again, Pakistan claims more than it can deliver.

They may claim everything nice about themselves and their missiles which are Chinese copy anyway.

The irony is that the Pakistani leaders may find out as General Musharraf did in 1999, during the Kargil battle, when he asked his strategic forces commander to get the missiles ready for action; the latter told him that the missiles are not ready. Although the Pakistani propaganda had been saying that their missiles are ready for action five years before that.

The above may happen again.

Wrong!

Nasr was developed after the intelligence reports confirmed Parhaar's development. India had been developing Parhaar since long, we needed a better system to counter it. Nasr was the answer.

Why as a counter for Prahaar? I thought Nasr was a tactical BM to preempt "Coldstart". If that was the intention, why did the comparision with Prahaar come into picture? Is Janes forcing a comparision where none exists?

Nasr is weapon of deterrence, just in case we start shooting it, or India starts shooting Parhaars, all of us should take it as the sign of the end of time, and kiss our asses goodbye.

LoL kid Range doesn't always matter....
Really ? Are you comparing 150 to 60 km range ?

BTW more Pakistani resources will be spent on this. More stress on their economy.

And we all thought it was to attack 80 tank column advancing ..

Some how pak intelligence miscalculated range of prahaar. or Indian intelligence realize d that pak deterring prahaar and increase d the range

Fyi: India uses metric system.

prahaar.as the enemy indicates.

Na Na

A dedicated defense budget.whether they spend 100% of their budget on ballistic missiles or 1%.No ones concern.

Recent estimate of Pak defence budget are just 2.6%.Which i believe is very much OK

With just 60 km range if tactical nukes are used to halt tank columns it will irradiate pakistan's irrigation system which is heart of pak punjab and economy, leaving aside the matter of indian response. Also to get the launcher to 60 km in age of satellites and IAF AWACs and ground surveillence is another problem.Even MBRL has greater range and can saturate bombard area to take out launcher.Precision air strike guided munitions from air can also do it.
So i think PA need to increase range of this weapon to 120 km+.

This missile will primarily be used in Rajasthan Sindh Desert areas.
