Turkey navy to escort aid ships to Palestinians in Gaza

BTW, as I quoted from Mearsheimer and Walt above, Israelis have ALWAYS faced bedouin armies or armies led by 3rd world despots who have may had some modern weapons but were not 'trained' and/or well-led. Turkey is a different story altogether. And it is not just because of NATO--although NATO is a big part. Turkey has not only good technology but the capacity to take more casualties. Israelis, due to the much smaller population, are very conscious of taking casualties--and that's understandable.

Here is one more news article. It makes it crystal clear that Israelis are trying to show great restraint against Turkey. May be they think that eventually Uncle Sam will intervene and diffuse the crisis. May be they are hoping for a coup in Turkey. Perhaps both. But may be Israelis know the cost of confronting Turkey? When was the last time Israel showed such 'restraint'? Imagine of Syria or Iran or Lebanon had offered to escort the ships to Gaza?

These remarks are grave and serious, but we have no wish to add to the polemic," Meridor said on army radio.

"It is better to stay quiet and wait - we have no interest in aggravating the situation by replying to such [verbal] attacks," he said.

Settlements are bad for Palestinians. Hopefully one day there will be a peaceful land swap. May be it will bantustan or may be a viable state. Who knows? But lobbing rockets and throwing rocks or sending a flotilla to Gaza is not going to stop the settlements. Or perhaps you think otherwise.
Peace.

I don't condone the rockets. But I tell you this much: Every passing day a viable Pal state is being harder and harder to achieve. Have you thought about it? Do you know the future for the Pals--and even for Israelis--if 5-7 million disgruntled subjects are made to live in ghettos? Have you studied a map of the Settlements? Have you considered the water-rights? Of course not, because all you keep repeating is 'peace' and portraying Israel is the incarnation of God as the mightiest power in the world. Like I said, you have NO ARGUMENT except trying to look politically-correct by mouthing off the Fox News sound-bites.

Either you condone the rockets or support peace. Unfortunately there is no middle ground.

Pal state getting harder to form. You bet.

And angry frothing-at-mouth Islamsits are not going to make it any more viable.

Hope you understand this fine point.

peace.

Lebanon, Syria and Iran are all enemy states while Turkey was once a good friend, if Israel should say "We will send our navy to Turkish water" it would only make AKP look good, why would we do them this favor?

....

Israelis would do the same thing. Wait and see if Iranian navy does show up Gaza shores.

If you know that you are powerful, then you don't want to fume in public, curse, and threaten. You just sit back and watch.

Turkey's Islamists are making Turkey look like a child who is crying over spilt milk.

Erdi or his right hand man devatug should have sent a convoy first and asked later. Right now it is just childish posturing by petty Islamists.

I actually condemn any rockets fired upon civilians. Period.
And you are actually supporting the Settlement activity, aren't you? Is your 'logic' because Gazans have been firing upon Israel so Israel has the right to do whatever in the W. Bank?
And, no, this 'Islamist' label reeks of Fox News propaganda line. The last time Turkey downgraded diplomatic ties to this extent, and for such a long time was well before AKP came to power.
Any other arguments for simpletons? This is not Fox News forum. If you want to be cheered then head-off there. They will sure surely praise you for your 'peace' loving stance. The rest of the world--as per the UNGA vote--does not buy the propaganda.

A Palestinian state have never been possible. Israel have never been ready to accept a fair two-state solution they always talk about.

Your hysteria for islamists doesnt change this fact.

Shalom.(pun intended)

I am clearly against the Turkish naval escort. I think we may be very close to some kind of agreements in the region and there is no point in spoiling that. Aid could be supplied from Egypt now.

Faujhistorian, i ''sympathise'' with much of what you have written.

truth be told, we have chest-thumpers and jingoist on all sides. Nobody who is even half-decent wants to see any more loss of precious lives.....and to me, that includes israeli life as well.

but the status quo is simply not sustainable. There are over 100 countries in the UN that are in favour for the creation of an independent Palestinian state with 1967 borders. That is the only way forward.

the blockade on Gaza is cruel and inhuman....it's also IILLEGAL under international law.

When Israel takes 1 step forward,Turkey takes 2 steps backward.

Erdoğan's misinterpreted remarks on escorting aid vessels touch raw nerves

A Palestinian state have never been possible. ....

Incorrect info my dear poster.

Pal state was possible in 1948
1949
1950
1951
1952
1953
1954
1955
1956
1957
1958
1960
1961
1962
1963
1964
1965
1966
.... all the way to the start of 1967 war.

Arabs in general and Pals in particular squandered 17+ years to accept the borders and live peacefully next to Israel. This would have included half of Jerusalem too.

Too bad Pals wanted guns and bullets instead of peace, and in the end poor people got what they wanted. guns and bullets and now rockets.

Peace.

Pal state was possible in 1948

Oh, yes! History of that region began in 1948! Surely, the British Mandate of Palestine was a 'land without people'. Surely, after WW II, the 'indigenous' people just had to move away and let Hitler's victims come and take over.
If any proof was needed that you are mouthpiece of the Zionists then it will not be needed anymore.

The Todays Zaman article is kind of re-assuring. Erdogan has been 'misquoted'. I suspected that. Basically, this 'news' has gone 'viral coming from only one or two sources. And then it could be the 'lost in translation' effect: Turkish-Arabic-English mis-mash. At least I hope so!

.

Thank you.

Oh by the way going to 1967 is a way "backwards" and not forward.

Pals and their strong supporters must learn to live in the current time. But they never do.

In 1948, Pals wanted 1850 borders
In 1967, Pals wanted 1948 borders
In 1973, Pals wanted to wipe out Israel
In 2011, Pals want 1967 borders.

This is like constantly living in the Past. That time is gone. the best thing is to accept Israel, quit lobbing rockets, and do some border adjustment and accept the whatever land they can get.

Remember Land is something that is not being made anymore, at least not on Earth or in surrounding planets.

Thus the land will always shrink with time. Simple mathematics. More people less land.

No one go back to the time of Hazrat Adam.

Overemphasizing on 1967 border may be a handy political tool, a bargaining chip, but in reality the Pals land will be a lot less than that time. That's a fact. and No emotions whatsoever are involved in this statement.

Pals should quickly accept the the 2011 borders with minor land swap and adjustments. No need to cry over East Jerusalem. It is gone.

Save Gaza, Save remaining areas of W. Bank, no rockets and quickly free Shalit.

Otherwise Pals would loose even the 2011 borders. And then in 2050 they would be asking for 2011 broders.

Hope you got the jist and understand that I don't have any malice or extra love for any side in this. Why should I? As a Pak, I need to take care of my own.

With Peace to all those who desire it.
