Its been more than a decade since Indian channels have been regularly showing cartoons and obviously it had reached the Pakistani household through channels.

Lots of Indian movies have Hindu traditions and customs showing in it and many have been following it for a long time including kids which are evident by the popularity there.

Can any of the respected member put up just "one" case where any of these programs have influenced/ converted kids or even adults in your country.

If "yes" then debate .. If "NO" cut the crap and hypocrisy.

Come on, Just 1 case,... Anybody..... ???????

From the first page i am saying the same THING Why to make cartoons based on religious teachings and gods in the first place that too for kids.

Keep these religious cartoons out of the reach of the children simple and straight.

Ban this crap and i dont have to mince my words one way or the other. If they can come up with entertainment cartoons for Kids fine we have no issue if these are made in tamil nadu or naga land or india. But Religious cartoons are a BIG NOOOOOOOOOO

ma'am..... Amar chitra katha the cartoon series in question depicts characters from myths in the same way in which say " Asterix and Obelix " from the Gauls are depicted or any cartoon from Norse or Viking or Trojan or Greek mythology might be depicted(Hercules , Achilles ,Odysius etc).....I read them often in my childhood and beyond the mention of common words like "prayer" or "yoga" no hindu practices or rituals were mentioned ......its a classic case of religious fundamentalism........

why did you say that. It is like balochistan, pashtonistan, sindh or
pakistan.

The Punjab government however has not acted to ban religious cartoons, they have acted to ban Hindu cartoons which then makes it all the more wrong.
PG(punjab govt) has no authority to ban these programms, it has asked for the approval of Federal government & has not banned any of the concerned programs so far. So the the decision to ban these, lies with the federal government & not with PG.

Asim please do come up with names of other religious cartoons. So that we can be able to report them to PEMRA and Punjab Govt. They should ban all irrespective of hindu or bhudist or islamic.

I mean would they ban that animated movie about Prophet Musa and the Pharoah King? Would they ban an animated movie on Noah's Arc? On an animated version of the movie The Message?

They have not promoted secular values, which they should.

Irrespective of secular or non-secular that is not the issue here. Its about kids and i am against any religious cartoon for kids from any faith.

If we talk from a Islamic point of view then we all know that in Islam depiction of Prophets in any form is not allowed so i am sure if there is any such animated depiction of Prophet Mosa and the king paroah then the govt must be acting similarly

For your Bolded part God in any religion always teach morals and hence they are called God or Prophets hence teaching ethics and morals through religious cartoons is much easier than anything. Showing other religious history, cartoons, stories makes kid for mor adaptive and remove hardliner aspect from them. You may not like that but does not mean others wont like them.

Isnt there difference between mythology and preaching religion/hindiism through animated gods in these animated movies for kids???

you want to promote mythology then come up with characters other than those of the gods who are showing kids god hunuman became god and how to worship him?

religious fundamentalism or whatever you like to call it that doesnt affect me.

BAN these religious cartoons from any faith thats my stand and the firm one.

cartoons for kids are meant to be for some lighter moments.

for teaching/learning process they have schools where they are teaching them though many mediums one of these is through graphics and new technology too.

And oh BTW by looking at bashing of religion of each others by all of us on internet and the abusive language shows how much we have learned the morals

Some "respected" members here are thinking ahead in future.

They are already planning for the danger to the religious upbringing of the kids they will have once they get married....:D

PS: You might also wanna consider removing all references to other religions from public library books lest kids shall go and look up and find out about other religions :D

You need to watch this when those characters dances, playes some modern game and speak in english as well. Mythological character is name attached them to connect kids while it may not be the same. Chhota Bheem is not Bheem from Mahabharata but a created character.

Bwaahaa.. How many schools and Colleges have Moral and Ethics classes. I wasn't talking about A B C...

Is this You talking?? OMG... Sorry but I have seen you more talking about "Hindu" words in comparison to anyother here.. hence No talks about morals with you

The answer for the thread is in-fact written in the article which the thread is based on:

Eminent artist and former principal of Lahore’s National College of Arts Salima Hashmi questioned the decision to form a committee for this purpose.

“Why doesn’t the government make a committee to know the root cause of militancy and why doesn’t it set up committees to find reasons of young children becoming suicide attackers?” she questioned.

Hashmi said that in India the number of Muslims was greater than the number of Muslims in Pakistan, so if Muslim children in India were not affected by mythology cartoons, why would children in Pakistan be affected?

“Isn’t there anything constructive that they can work on? Why waste time on setting up such committees and inquiring into such matters which are not pertinent in the current situation?”

Punjab govt goes after Hindu mythology cartoons – The Express Tribune

It is because of these sane persons , that too woman who can call spade a spade and not to try act like our hypocrite for some reason unknown , the society is still binding and hope is prevailing.

For others, oh yeah there are Tom and Jerry and Mickey mouse cartoons.

I think this thread should be closed till the decision of the GOP on this matter is made public, as nothing productive will be yielded by this constant bickering.

usually I agree with you but if you see, it is not Pakistan it is Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It's official religion is Islam and thus it is not a work of government to differentiate secular or nonsecular. Whatever should be must be as per Islamic Laws I guess.

That is why now I believe that carrying discussion on this non sense is of pointless.

I'm pretty sure people have... Not converted obviously, but they lose the type of religious values the parents want to indoctrinate in them. Which is their right, btw. Kids especially. My cousin recently caught her 4 year old kid singing some song that goes Om Shaanti Om, and corrected the kid immediately.

I remember I got scolded once for singing that Hindi song, Dum maaro dummm... Somewhere in between it goes like Hare Krishna Hare Raam. I was also really young.

Kids pick up things really fast, and if the parents don't want their children exposed to it, whatever the reason, then it shouldn't be sneaked in through cartoons.

Slavery was once lawful in the US and yet opposition to it, got things changed. When we ask for secularism, we don't oppose Islam, but oppose theocracy.
