Why do people marry, wonders Malala

Everybody in a huff should try reading the entire interview themselves:

The only relevant statement which is causing controversy is this :

I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?

Stay focus on the issue.

Seven Reasons Couples Get Married

Every couple has different reasons to get married that apply to their unique relationship, and many couples share similar reasons for planning the long walk down the aisle. Whether a couple's reasons are emotional, legal, financial, or some combination of these, recognizing why marriage is important can help them understand the commitment they have to their long-term relationship.

Most People Marry for Love

For many couples, emotional reasons are the most obvious cause for walking down the aisle. According to the Pew Research Center, 88% of the general public reports that love is the main reason they chose to tie the knot. This is the number one reason respondents gave.

Some Marry for Financial Benefits

Getting married can be very practical for financial reasons. In fact, according to US News and World Report, couples who are living together but not married make only 61% of the income of those who are married. Financial advantages of marriage might include:
A married couple can take advantage of tax breaks associated with marriage.
The legal commitment of a marriage may offer financial security if the couple chooses to have children.
Couples can enjoy financial benefits with regard to communal property, inheritances, retirement accounts, and other financial matters.

People May Marry for Health Insurance

Health insurance is another motivator for some who choose to get married. Sharing medical insurance for couples and families can be very cost effective and may prompt some to walk down the aisle. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that married adults between the ages of 18-64 were far more likely to be insured than their unmarried counterparts. According to the CDC survey, 74.5% of insured married couples had private insurance, often through an employer.

41% of Couples Marry to Have Children

The Pew Research Center survey also suggests that having and raising children may be a motivator for people to make a lifelong commitment. According to the survey, 41% of respondents listed having children as a main reason they chose to marry. The Future of Children Report from Princeton University suggests that children born in household where the parents are married get many benefits from the marriage, including the following:
More time with parents
Higher income for the household
More access to health insurance
More stable home environment
Better parental supervision
Of course, these benefits only apply when children are born into a healthy, stable family environment. Being married does not guarantee that children will benefit from the parents' relationship.

23% of Couples Marry for Legal Reasons

Legal reasons are also a major commitment motivator in 23% of marriages, according to the Pew Research Center.
If a couple is legally married, they can invoke hospital visitation rights and caregiver decisions with fewer bureaucratic roadblocks.
Parental and property rights are also easier to manage legally when a couple is married, including issues such as employment sick leave, next of kin, and home ownership.
In some cases, citizenship can also play a role in the decision to marry.

Almost a Third of Couples Marry for Religious Reasons

About 30% of couples also choose to get married for religious reasons, according to the Pew Research Center survey. In some faiths, a couple may not be considered married if they only complete a civil ceremony - a religious ceremony is required to confirm their union before the eyes of God. A couple who shares the same or similar faiths may want to honor their relationship with that religious commitment, or if their faiths are different, they may plan an interfaith marriage ceremony to blend their spirituality together.

Some Marry Because of Society's Expectations

Although there are no statistics to tell how many couples marry because of societal expectations, there's no denying that many couples feel intense peer pressure to marry from their parents, relatives, or other married friends, particularly if they already have children or plan to start a family. Single individuals may also be pressured to "settle down" and get married, and for some people, the appeal of a party to celebrate their union is incentive enough to get married.

Marriage is trading off freedom for stability .
It is her opinion based on what she feels at this point in her life .
Some people put freedom above stability . But most people put stability above freedom .

It is not as simple or binary like that at all.

LOL, this is not a marriage counselling thread.

Please stay relevant on the subject under discussion.

Exactly. What is more, it would not be unusual for young adults, such as Malala, to evolve with their views on such a deeply personal topic.

It's a personal choice to stay single whole life or with choosen partner. However, the RULES of living with partner are CLEARLY defined under Islamic law, which is to marry and do NIKKAH. There is NO other way to live with a partner. "Partnership" is illegitimate and STRICTLY forbidden under Islam. Those who are carrying such views should be treated as heretics and their evil must be nipped in the bud.

I would not be surprised if a man from a Western country said such a thing because of the so many anti-male laws such as alimony, child support, paternity fraud etc after divorce. But coming from a woman, the agenda is very clear.

Yes, that’s the reason why many men still don’t marry here in Germany after finding „the love of their life“. The laws favor women too much and if you are happy nothing bad will happen, but in today’s society it’s very easy for a woman to just abandon the husband and live off from alimony and state subsidies. The results are high divorce rates, single mothers, unhappy children and all in all an unstable future society, because no stable family background means unstable people and personalities.

And if a politician wants to touch these laws they are automatically labeled as anti feminists and patriarchs so they don’t do anything about it.

Few days ago, My Mrs was telling me about her colleague daughter. This girl is a lesbian. She wanted to have a child. Ofcourse, normal way of conception was not the option. So she opted for sperm donner. There is a catlog of men in the sperm bank and she opted for the one she preferred. As it turned out, that man is preferred by most of these "type" of women because of his physical attributes. Upon her medical examination, they found out that she couldn't carry the child. Then a surrogate was selected. In nutshell, they got her egg, sperm from that hunk, and used a third woman womb for the fertilization. Baby will be "delivered" to her in next few weeks as its now its approaching 9 months. If this is not all messed up, the most scary bit is, that since most these "type" of women are opting for sperm from the same guy, there is a possibility that in future, the children born this fashion, will end up with each other, without even knowing. Incest by default!

Not long ago, western societies had family values but all was systematically teared down and it didnt take long once the fire was lit.

Pakistanis, need to be VERY VERY careful and guard their family structure with jealousy. This is really no joke, these sort of attempts by so called public figure to spread the "ideas" , they need to taken on and nipped in bud asap.

Yes. We must be vocal about our culture, families and religion. The degenerates are full of pride* and the Muslims full of fear of backlash. I noticed many conservatives and Muslims having this "you do you" attitude. Have kids out of wedlock, drink beer or march for gay marriages. Anything goes, because we fear that some random libtard could be mad at us (they will always be mad at us regardless what we do or say).

* This is the next big thing in Muzzieland

These libturds are out in force on this thread as well. There has to be ZERO tolerance of these individuals in Muslim societies tbh.
