Afghan Air Force receives two C-130H : More on the way!

Next should be a squad of F 16 Block 60

WhyTF!, They need to take out Terrorists, Hell they couldn't maintain C-27A how in the hell would they maintain Vipers.

What ever they have procured or are ordered is sufficient, Embraer Super Tucano is more than enough for the coming Years.

I understand PAF has used its F 16s quite well against the likes of TTP etc. Why cant the same be used against Afghan Taliban?

If you had read the report afghan air force wasted huge money and couldn't main C-27A spartans. how in the hell are they going to maintain sophisticated Vipers.

If they need to buy something perhaps modernized configured su-25 is the best to target terrorists.

May be the training on maintenance will help a little. PAF got similar support and propping up by USA in 50's and 60's

su-25 is much simpler to handle rugged and best suited for ops in afghanistan. Air Force is built slowly over the period of time jumping to Vipers or similar category is unnecessary when there is no Air Threat, the up coming Threat is taliban when the number of US forces shrink to 20-25000 and taliban starts taking cities.

Even used fulcrums from russian inventory would cost around $20m compared to refurbished F-16s that costs 165-$175m over the life time and the initial purchase price is $65m+

You have to read the whole process of acquiring C-27 spartans, 1, Afghanistan was never involved in the procurement of those transport aircrafts 2, Afghanistan didn't chose to fly those junks 3, Afghanistan didn't had the authority of those millions of dollars which USA wasted on that aircraft 4, Afghanistan was not part of the contract between USA and Italian company 5, Afghanistan already said the aircraft doesn't suit the environment and mission.

So take Afghanistan out of it and put the blame on the real culprits!

Maintaining any aircraft by Afghanistan is difficult at the moment but not impossible! we are going ahead steadily and very soon we would have a fleet of fighter jets but the best for counter-insurgency is fighter propellers which is already on order (20 of it) and the pilots, maintenance crew etc.. are studying in USA, Turkey and UAE and Afghanistan.

Have you read my posts sher, did I not say Super Tucano is more than enough and with su-25 could be the best option against insurgents provided it is an option on table.

The C-27A spartan blame goes to US and also to afghanistan, you people should have refused it because plans were to be handed over to afghanistan that is what the reports say by US so they are blaming you afghans, my question is why did US not introduce C-130Hs from its inventory before and brought C-27A in the first place....it is called corruption the party to it is/was US and Karazai admin.

Man believe it or not these American generals are the most corrupt people I have ever known, they have wasted many many billions of dollars in Afghanistan on contracts alike C-27s; Afghanistan had never got the choice to choose in first place we have many many times given them the requirements of Afghan air force but they aren't interested in that and I really don't know what would be the faith of those C-27s in Afghan inventory but surely we need 8 to 12 C-130Hs to support our forces.

And Afghan government requested the purchase of Su-27s in 2011 and got rejected by the donors mainly because it was Russian. So for the long run US will try hard to make us like their or their ally's weapons.

Ahheemmm ... to quote, ad nauseam, the great American General Peter Fuller (A man who had the guts to call a spade a spade):

Why don’t you just poke me in the eye with a needle! You’ve got to be kidding me … I’m sorry, we just gave you $11.6 billion and now you’re telling me, ‘I don’t really care’? When they are going to have a presidential election, you hope they get a guy that’s more articulate in public.

...

I said, ‘You guys are isolated from reality.’ The reality is, the world economy is having some significant hiccups. The U.S. is in this [too]. If you’re in a very poor country like Afghanistan, you think that America has roads paved in gold, everybody lives in Hollywood. They don’t understand the sacrifices that America is making to provide for their security. And I think that’s part of my job to educate ’em.

...

You can teach a man how to fish, or you can give them a fish. We’re giving them fish while they’re learning, and they want more fish! [They say,] ‘I like swordfish, how come you’re giving me cod?’ Guess what? Cod’s on the menu today.

Yeah.. But Afg at this time is firmly in American Camp. So while there can be multiple reasons why Su 25s are better, its realistic to restrict one to the practical options.

And given USAF is now letting go of it F 16s and converting them to drones, the cost may not be as high as you are expecting it to be.

The cost is pretty high even for a 25 year old stored F-16 to be refurbished and bring it to block 42/50 standards. You don't get an F-16 for $10m even US drones cost 3 times more. Lastly taliban/insurgents would destroy them, if I mentioned su-25 I did not mean large no of squadrons even 12-14 would be sufficient.

buddy, don't you think that F-15E will suit you guys more??as Su-30 is Russian weapon,USA might find it hard to support in sector of spares.I think you guys need something like Su-25 for ground attack and F-15/Mig-29(F-15E can perform both job though) for air superiority.though its not clear if AAF will ever get F-15.as for super Tunaco, its great for CAS,but you guys need to evolve your AF.so,if you guys buy any 4th gen jets,i think it'll be USA who you should look for,as they're supporting you guys.
