Zardari declines to reinstate Chief Justice: U.S. newspaper

Updated at: 0855 PST, Wednesday, August 20, 2008
NEW YORK: An American newspaper has cited Pakistan Peoples Party co-Chairman Senator Asif Ali Zardari as saying that he has declined to reinstate deposed Chief Justice Iftekhar Muhammad Chaudhry.
The daily also claimed that on denial of reinstatement of deposed Chief Justice, PML-N Quaed Nawaz Sharif has placed an ultimatum for reinstatement and failing which the PML-N would smash the ruling coalition.

Damn Crook and liar. Knowing this man does not need one to be an expert psychologist, psychiatrist or a close associate for years. This man has a disgusting criminal record of killing political opponents and judges, running drugs, robbing the nation of millions of dollars and perhaps a partner in assassination of his wife. Now he plans to be the president of Pakistan. Too sad. Thanks to Musharraf and his pardoning criminals for saving his skin. What a crime upon crime from Musharraf.:smokin:

JK he is definitely a Wiley fox, however I would like to see him use some of his skills externally and not always to strengthen his own position at home.

Try to visualize it... try hard... its a very difficult question to answer...

UN-F'ing-BELIEVABLE!!!!!!

Now we shall travel around the globe at the pleasure of the "President 10 percent"... Time to shred the green passport... enough is enough... :hitwall:

Not reinstating Iftikhar part of Musharraf resignation deal

ISLAMABAD: A deal between the government and General (r) Pervez Musharraf on the latter’s resignation mediated by Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom includes not reinstating sacked chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, sources privy to the arrangement said.

Chaudhry’s reinstatement has created differences between the Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz – the two major parties in the ruling coalition.

A proposal for appointing a new chief justice is being considered, the sources said, and the PML-N is likely to abandon the alliance – in which case a large number of legislators from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid are ready to join the coalition. Crucial political decisions are expected within the next three days, the sources said.

They said Iftikhar Chaudhry would not be reinstated because he might initiate cases against Musharraf. Sources in the coalition government said PPP Co-chairman Asif Zardari opposes the idea of restoration of sacked judges by an executive order because of the deal, and has proposed appointing a new chief justice to replace the incumbent and sacked chief justices. aaj kal report

No minus-one formula being considered: Naik

ISLAMABAD: Federal Law, Justice and Human Rights Minister Farooq H Naik on Wednesday dismissed reports that the sacked judges would be restored by applying a ‘minus-one’ formula. The formula would supposedly open the door for a full restoration of the judiciary, but without sacked chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry. Talking to reporters, he said the PPP had neither backed away from its commitment to restore judges nor believed in any ‘minus-one’ formula. He also denied any deadlock between the ruling alliance over the judges’ issue. staff report

WASHINGTON: Pakistan Muslim League Chief Mian Nawaz Sharif says People Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has given minus-one formula for the restoration of deposed judges.

In an interview to US newspaper today, he said his party would quit the ruling alliance if judges were not restored. However, he said PML-N would not pose any threat to the government as opposition.

PML-N chief said, “It will be a bad day for the democracy and country if judges are not reinstated.”

Actions of former president Pervez Musharraf would be protected in case judges were not restored, he noted, adding several members of PML-Q expressed the desire to join his party.

Sharif said that democracy was more important than becoming a prime minister again.

"I or anyone else in my party are not the presidential candiate, said Nawaz adding the decision should be based on national consenus.
