What's new

Your school years

i did not understand what "shugal mela" meant.

he did expel me after i said " i have been in this school longer than you have :P"

and then my mom gave me the offer of joining Beacon House (it was not all boys) i replied " i shall not give away my loyalty to my school"

you should have... but it is the past anyway.

To me School is the biggest waste of time, 10 to 11 years of physical & mental punishment for what ?
Reading, writing or adding & multiplying..
But at the same time was tremendous fun aswell from an English medium in Rawalpindi to a Danda Sota or ( Khoti ) school in Gujrat. The last two years were really amazing.

schooling up to 13 years of age is necessary, and it should be of practical, progressive and all-encompassing nature... after that, one must join a part time vocational program of one's choice... this should be parallel to (a). contributing to what is necessary for society, (b). using remaining time to hone one's interests/talents and in leisure... these will be life long.

of course, "what is necessary for society" should be decided by the society being socialist.

this will be the most scientific way.

I completely agree with schooling being practical. To this day I don't get the point of those long algebra questions that started from year 6 & lasted till the end of school. Those questions took a whole wall for completion or those ridiculous questions about squar root. To this day not once have I used any of those in my practical life. Where as knowledge of geometry or questions about finding volume of mapping an area have way more practical knowledge but we're hardly taught in school. Similarly English was a compulsory subject & u have to clear it to progress on to college that's like taking the Pi** on a very large scale, when it's only taught in a way that the whole emphasis is on reading writing. A child & his family had to suffer for over 10 years for a foreign language to fu*k em over & traumatise the individual for the rest of life. On the other hand U get to read & learn about Urdu from the works of absolute losers like Ghalib & Bahadur Shah Zafar. I mean what an inspiration at a critical stage of ur life. There is a lot of other such stuff that makes my blood boil when I ponder about schooling.
I believe schooling should be light & practical with only 2 hours of classroom a day.Rest of the time there should be freedom for sports or art or any other healthy activity the child wants. The only goal for the first 5 years should be reading writing & an understanding of add up, minus divide & multiplie. After that the only subjects taught must be biology, chemistry, physics, maths or geography & history. No need for Urdu or English or any other Bullsh*t.
Schooling ought to produce strong individual people not weak complex minded sheeple. I see society using school as a means of brain washing ( in other words moulding ) a child to a certain mind set ( values if there are any apart from truth, honesty & courage ) as no less a crime than paedophilia.
& I see a great deal of value to society if Quran & other basics of religion like Namaz & wudu ate taught at the school itself & not relied up on a Molvis.

all schooling is brainwashing in someway, only value schools should try to put in your head is a healthy dose of skepticism, so that you can look back and question even your education.
the way science is taught in school(in India) is no different from religion..

I still go to school, lol. Couldn't really contribute to this thread. Will try.
Primary was fun, not really useful. 6 to 7 was the growing phase learned a lot, interacted with different people, had different experiences(@Shamain , you know which one's), tough to swallow. 8 to 9 was also very special, made great friends, teachers were good. Never really bullied ever in school. 10 was tough O level started, again learned a lot. And 11 starting this year.
Overall good experience.
