Young Soldier from Gilgit-Baltistan Embraces Martyrdom at Siachen

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un, may Allah give him a place in paradise and peace to his family and a spark to PA to prevent such a tragedy again.

Siachin is rotation , don't know if someone can decline to post. But heard Siachin deployment is big star on soldiers resume , when promotion reviews kicks in.

We should only post acclimatised soldiers and give them longer deployments and earlier retirement with a handsome pension.

A Pakistan Army soldier recognized as Lieutenant Azhar Abbas from Astore district of Gilgit-Baltistan has embraced martyrdom in Siachin at around 2:00 PM on Thursday.

Lieutenant Azhar Abbas was son of former SSP Yousuf Ali.
He was inducted into Pakistan Army through The Pakistan Military Academy’s PMA 135 Long Course (135 L/C) and was deployed at the World Highest Battlefield of Siachen.

Friends, family and social media users have been showing their grief after the news of his martyrdom was posted on Facebook.

According to some sources, Lt. Azhar Abbas passed away due to high altitude sickness. His body could not yet be sent to Astore due to bad weather.
There has been no word from ISPR so far about the martyrdom of

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un.

Soldiers do get acclimatized.

It was a volunteer assignment back in 90s. However, you were required to do one hard area assignment (which back in the day was mostly siachin) to expedite promotion or later on want to get station of choice.

Army has hierarchy so it's not that we can only send LTs or Capts only. My father went there as a major back then. Still keeps that white winter issue balaclava.

He does say that his memory has somewhat been affected by it (not much but some).

Now hard area choices are siachin or ex FATA e.t.c

Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un, rest in peace brother. Thank you for your service.

Siachen is one of never ending issues for FCNA. Movement/transport gets restricted not just due to weather but also terrain especially slides.

All soldiers are acclimatised. In fact, they have to go through different high altitude warfare courses at the Army High Altitude Training School in Rattu before deployment. Unfortunately, high altitude sickness doesn't always care for acclimatisation.

This sher was from Astore, he was born acclimatised.

I believe Sibbi is also considered as a hard area, or at least it was. Even though, given the state of the base there, many opined that it should not have been.

I believe it's a voluntary assignment. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please.
