Ya'alon: 'Israel is a Military Superpower'

israel can be said a region military power, but a global power?? LOL Israeli politicians r known for their exaggerations and extraordinary claims.:fie:

The reason lies in the massive man and machine loss by the Israelis. They realized that another decisive win like 1967 Blitzkreig is never going to repeat again. And excellent diplomatic maneuver by Sadat was one of the main reason Israel signed the treaty. Egypt became second highest recipient of US aid in the after years of the war. It was a military defeat but political win by the Egyptians.

Reason can be that even world was pressuring Israel to return sinai to Egypt b'coz both armies had made the world's biggest shipping route - suez canal as it's border.

Yes. But these are after effects of the demoralizing win of '73 war. Had the war been won in a decisive manner like 1967 there is no reason to believe Israel would have signed the treaty. Remember nobody took the Arabs seriously before the war. The Americans and Soviets did not want to engage with each other by involving in Arab-Israel conflict. In Henry Kissinger's words "A prolonged stalemate would move the Arabs towards moderation and the Soviets to fringes of ME diplomacy". The west was happy with the reign of "peace" in the region while the domestic politics of the Arabs were boiling for a quick settlement. It was a brilliant tactical initiative started by Nasser and completed with excellence by Sadaat.

I have no love for the Israelites but one thing I cant deny is their military prowess, they are by far the biggest and most combat effective military in the region, I dont agree with their policies in the area but I give credit where it due.....

The day USA stops supporting Israel, it will be in a terrible danger. It can be accepted as a regional power. probably the most powerful country in the Middle East but not a Superpower.

there are three superpower militarily-USA,Russia and China. Israel is not superpower.

Power Projection plus more than 50 countries in the world many of them far away from israels border considers it an enemy state.
50 countries?
As far as i know, only some Arab countries are enemies of Israel(10 maybe).

Times have changed, their threats have grown in Power. You need land to sustain attacks, which they have very little of. Military might is one thing, the ability to sustain heavy bombardment of missiles and shit is another.

No doubt Isreal is a military might, a super power? Not yet.

I concur. Israel is a very formidable military force, but a ,military superpower? A long way to go in that department.

But the question is why did they sign the treaty when they had won the war.

They launched the attack it's not the other way around.

Reason can be that even world was pressuring Israel to return sinai to Egypt b'coz both armies had made the world's biggest shipping route - suez canal as it's border.

The same 'world' attacked Egypt alongside Israel in 1956.

Military superpower?

Dude....

Saudi Air Force now has superior weaponry than IDAF....so much for superpower.

Israel is the best military in the region...but not superpower.

One on one--without nuclear weapons--Turkey will stomp the **** out of Israel. Israel is just too small to handle a "real" war.

Fact 6: They no longer hold the ultimate technological advantage over other Middle-East Air Forces. Saudi Air Force has surpassed them in technology.

Fact:7: They never faced an actual, full-fledged air force in war. Only ill-experienced mid-east airforces of 60's and 70's.

Fact 8: They can't attack Iran without United States' backing (military, financial, political)

The day USA stops supporting Israel, it will be in a terrible danger. It can be accepted as a regional power. probably the most powerful country in the Middle East but not a Superpower.

If you take Turkey in "Middle-East", then no.

Turkey is more powerful and more influential than Israel.

If you don't take Turkey into account, then may be yes.

LOL. Dont tell this to the Turks. They like to be called Europeans. And they hate the arabs. But yes if they are to be included in the Middle east, certainly they are stronger than Israel.
