What about the millions - literally millions - of religious idols defaced throughout the length and breadth of south Asia? How is it that only this group was disfigured by smugglers? Or are we being told that the smugglers had got to all the others?

I respect your patriotism and loyalty, but I think you know very well why and how these happen to have been disfigured. It is up to you to decide how to face that fact; if you insist that smugglers did it, please feel free. I have nothing further to say on the matter.

The statues have nothing to do with Buddhist doctrine or with practice of Buddhism in daily life. They were built some 400 to 600 years after the Buddha. So there is no real, tangible reason for a Buddhist to feel desolate. But they too might feel saddened. Or even a slight more emotion than that.

A centuries old 'sleeping Buddha' statue has been unearthed during excavations near Bhamala Stupa in Haripur district, DawnNewsreported on Thursday.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Archaeology And Museums Director Dr Abdul Samad said,"The 48-feet long 'sleeping Buddha' statue dates back to the third century, which makes it the world's oldest 'sleeping Buddha' statue."

He told DawnNews that archaeologists found the statue, with its head intact, during excavations near the Bhamala Stupa.

"We have discovered more than 500 Buddha-related objects during excavations, in addition to the 48-feet long 'sleeping Buddha',” he said.

The latest discoveries by the archaeologists have opened new chapters in the history of the ancient Taxila Valley Civilisation.

“This is one of the few sites in the world to have the cruciform Stupa, which was reserved for Buddha himself,” Samad had earlier told Dawn.

Not vandalism... the taliban fired at a few statues... but they were restored... another menace we faced were robbers who smuggled them to the west.... but are now guarded.... alot of Paks national heritage still lies in british and indian museums... waiting to come home..

Also, do you know any that sing/recite Sufis poems/kalams? Although I have nothing against songs and do feel that they help in learning the language, I would rather listen to something worthwhile. Any ideas?

yes i am hindko speaking i think there aren't any kalam in hindko language most singers are only interested in maiyaeh tappe etc
if you want to learn the language then you should watch Bethak on k2 TV

Because they are idols.

It's haram to keep them, at bare minimum you have to deface them in order to prevent worship of these things and prove they are worthless.
