World Cup Qualifier: Iran vs Uzbekistan (Azadi, Tehran)

what about being first team or second team? I think S.K still has chance to go Moscow as first team.

At the moment we are 7 points ahead of South Korea, although they have a match against Qatar today.
If they win we will be 4 points ahead of them. Assuming they win against us in Seoul, we will still be 1 point ahead of them and they have to face against Uzbekistan in Tashkent, and we play home against Syria.
So the only way they become first is if they win all their three remaining matches (including us), and we lose or draw Syria at home.
The likelihood of all of that happening is about 2 %.

Congrats, friends!:-)

IRI has a very good team... I wish them all the luck in the World Cup. It's time for IRI to pass the first round and advance to higher rounds. IRI has become a really good team, perhaps the best in Asia, but now they need to become a powerhouse on a global stage. I wish them good fortune.

Iran’s success reflects the failures of Asian football - Economist

I am not sure how to interpret this article: Is it racist? Is the author just ignorant? I find the arrogance in the article very offensive. As if a small country can not produce great talent. Italy is no larger than IRI, and certainly not as rich as Germany, but they have produced great talents. And based on author's argument Switzerland should not be a banking or watch making giant since their GDP or population is not as large as say Germany, Spain or France?Shame on these people that they can't get past their ethnocentric (I would even go as far as calling it racist) worldview.

The article's ink for anyone who is interested:

I think I understand where they come from.

It was only 30 years ago when even thinking of facing South Korea or Japan in a football match made us feel the chill in our spine. Now, we feel down when Iran can not get past Argentina!

The fact is Iran's sport teams (specially football, volleyball and basketball) have made such a huge progress during that past three decades that for an observer in South Korea or Japan, it may stir up a variety of different emotions as during the same time, their position has actually deteriorated.

And if I may suggest, you sound different, is your account hacked or have you changed your diet?

Congrats, friends!:-)

Don't forget to cheer for Iran team while you are there mate! As most of us won't be there to support our team.

How do I sound different?! I am not sure why you would ask that? I give credit where it's due. And here IRI is due its credit. I have seen IRI football team shine (it's verifiable). If you see my skepticism on other threads, it's just that, skepticism. Things that can not be verified must be viewed, and I use the word "must", skeptically. I am not anti-IRI, nor anti Iranian. I do the same whether it's US, UK, DE, etc.

Tnx, son of muawiyah the first.

Whats up with qatar btw? anyone starved yet?
You should have reciprocate in a good way, since he addressed you in an Honorable way, calling you sons of Ali(RA).
Sunnis are not fond of Muawiyah (RA), we are just indifferent.
