and yet your country supports saudi arab, your country supports the arab sheikhs who have the authority in middle east and you supported talibans

you guys have no moral right to speak on this matter

Hey, they brought the nuns in claiming it's the same thing. Just wanted to clear some misconceptions.

Last time I checked, Pakistan also supported Saudi Arabia, took money from it and supported Taliban. So what's your right ?

Funny thing is people who were blasting on France are now mute on KSA. :coffee:

Funny people using scripture in the Bible to justified the Muslim need for burqa....

Depend on which testament you are referring to the newest or latest testament are believed to have written Before 400 AD
The society in 400AD is a lot different than 2012 AD, if you use the old testament standard backthen, we are all condemned to hell. The society have change, and the rules the christianity follow does too. People generally are not surpise or outrage that the fact muslim require their women to cover their face, but people are surprised that there are still muslim interpret QUran just as it was in their inception.

The fact that people do know muslim have given ntheir women a lot of possibility but there are still hardcore muslim like to intrepret the muslim rule under Quran like when they first created.

Actually the bible does say cover the head for woman, you fools just refuse to believe it or if you do you make lame excuses.

Corrinthians 11:3-6
"If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head"

Corinthians 11:5
'' But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for she is one and the same as the woman whose head is shaved.

You really don't get the point do you? Some of the stuff that is written in religious texts is wrong and unsuitable in the modern world. People of most religions have accepted that and moved on. There are many things written in hindu religious texts which we chose not to obey because we think it's stupid. It's perfectly ok if you people don't want to disagree with whatever's in the Koran. but at least ,don't push your values on other people. Non muslim women should be allowed to wear whatever they want in Saudi just as muslim women can wear Burkha in any country they go ( except France perhaps , and I believe what France did was wrong).

Oh yeah and @ Doc I have showed you that Islam was never for Arabs only so hopefully you will not peddle that line again in the future.

Bro I have my own theories on this one and would love to discuss them here with you and other moderates.

The problem is not all here are moderates. From all sides.

And soon the discussion will degenerate into pedophile, cow piss, Zionist, etc etc etc.

All I can safely say is that Islam did not start off as a religion or faith.

It was a regional political movement that grew into a faith.

But a faith for a people who till that time were pretty faithless and backward and lagging behind the rest of the 7th century modern world by a few millenia in terms of enlightenment.

For want of a better way to describe it, it was Christianity for the Arabs.

And that is where the real rub globally today is.

Two peas in a pod. Going at each other. To be the master pea.

‘Women Must Uncover Faces’ - Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabian authorities have rejected a conservative proposal to allow women to keep their faces covered during security checks, local media reported on Tuesday.

A draft law would have allowed women to continue wearing veils during the checks, and would have required their identity cards to be based on fingerprints instead of photographs, the Saudi Gazette said.

The Shura Council, a consultative body appointed by the king, rejected the plan on Sunday, although it agreed that female security staff should carry out checks on women, the newspaper reported. It did not say who had proposed the law.

Under Wahhabism, the branch of Sunni Islam practised in Saudi Arabia, men and women are largely segregated in public areas. Women need a male guardian’s permission to work, travel or open a bank account. (RTRS)
If women is checking that what is the problem this news should have been posted if it would have been male security staff if they are already checked by women than why is this even the news :hitwall::hitwall:

And the people who were vehemently supporting france on enforcing burqa ban is now so vocal against Saudis..:coffee:

No Islam forces it, while other religions ask for it. A massive difference.
Misconception.

Also, laws (religious or others) are FORCED on a society to prevent it from becoming dysfunctional or destructive. Deal with it.

They need to change their laws badly
They shouldn't. They should do what works for them.

WEST is far from perfect and we should not blindly adhere to its teachings and beliefs.

By reading all these, dont you think the Holy Quran is written with a tilt towards men??
Elaborate please.

When you go to a foreign country; you have to abide by its laws. Same is true for Saudi Arabia. I don't think that Saudi Arabia is forcing its laws on other nations.

Islam is far better then modern (and twisted) Western conception of a civilized society because the former enforces reasonable checks and balances. Islamic laws are perfectly attuned to discourage crimes, encourage modesty and morality, differentiate humans from animals, preserve healthy gender psyches and prevent exploitation.

Everything sounds so good on paper.....i guess that's why all Islamic countries are doing so well.

also what checks and balances? how to beat your wife properly? That is a good example of it, no?

discouraging crime? -is it not written its perfectly ok to take from an infidel? or something along those tunes?

encourage modesty and morality? by lashes and stoning? That's good encouragement, ill say.

You guys are hilarious with your aplogetic attitudes.

Because having ones face unveiled is so destructive.

Can you please explain, how women not being forced to wear burqas, or women not being required to be chaperoned everywhere they go, creates a dysfunctional and destructive society?

When you go to a foreign country; you have to abide by its laws. Same is true for Saudi Arabia. I don't think that Saudi Arabia is forcing its laws on other nations.

Yeah, as if they can. No one is forcing anyone's laws on anybody else. But Saudi's laws belong in the 7th century. Not in the 21st century.

Who decides what is immodest or immoral?

Discourage crimes? How? Saudi law states that a rape would be considered rape only if there are witnesses!! Yeah right, as if someone is gonna invite friends over for a rape show!!

Healthy gender psyches? You mean growing up without an ounce of knowledge about relationships? You mean growing up without an ounce of knowledge about a female's anatomy? Growing up not having girlfriends or even sex before marriage? And that creates HEALTHY gender psyches? It creates a sexually repressed atmosphere where people are depressed because of sexual frustration. Thats what happens.

And again what is modesty? What if a woman wants to wear a bikini? Who is anyone to say that she cannot and that it is immodest? What about the woman's choices or feelings or inclinations? What about people's social and sexual freedoms?

Nope, Islamic law is archaic, outdated and belongs where it belongs. In the 7th century. Today in the 21st century, laws in countries like Saudi are appallingly ridiculous.

Doc, I would like to dispute your premise but agree this thread is not the place and as long as people like Zarvan (just noticed he is actually here ) are running around we wouldn't be able to have a healthy conversation anyway.

Also just by the basis of this thread I can see there are plenty of people on the other extreme who wouldn't be able to help themselves from going ballistic on such a thread. Definitively not encouraging.

.
Wow a giant leap from 7th century to 18th century! That's a 1100 year jump only about 300 more to go. Not bad.

.
The amount of ignorance in this thread is too damn high.

Please name me the last case a woman in KSA was arrested for uncovering here face or anything else, women uncover due to cultural and family pressure, it is different from one family to the other.

In Jeddah most women uncover their faces and like 15 percent don't cover their hair, it is lower in other regions. There is NO written law against covering or uncovering women actually, it is up to the society to write its own rules. Besides the premiss of where you live in has it's effect, like a woman in Jeddah or western KSA in general feels more comfortable to uncover while in central KSA it is the opposite.

This law just says women MUST uncover their faces for ID checks turning down a draft by the conservatives to use the fingerprint instead of covering faces which really is a liberal victory over ignorant conservatives but people here are disgustingly ignorant and quite frankly are wasting world's oxygen.

.
@ Mosamania: Is it mandatory for women in other religion also to cover their head in SA when in public??
