How many times do you guys have to be proven wrong the internet warriors i am talking about who Think China will not get involved in the dispute between India and Pakistan? I mean there should be a level of naivety. Didn't China snubbed India lately over NSG because of Pakistan? Did China think tanks not said China will get intervene if India destabilises Baluchistan? You underestimate China's ambitions and her interests in Pakistan. After CPEC its a whole lot new ball game. Making absurd statements like China will not get involved etc just to satisfy ego is not going to help.

So Chinese think tanks are policy of the Chinese government? Have you heard of the official Chinese position? Please do read their statement. Is there any treaty which says, there is a China Pakistan Defence Pact? If yes, please do show me the same.

Do you understand, that, if China agrees on a mutual defence pact, they will need to contend with war on all sides? The only areas where they currently do not have an active military conflict is the Indian, Russian and Mongolian borders. You think, they will want US and India mutual defence pact? Have you any idea of geo politics? Do you understand that, if the Pakistani state collapses, there will be a separate deal between the Indian and Chinese governments allowing routes from Gujarat and Mumbai all the way to China. Let's be clear. We have minor border disputes with China. Neither of our countries want war with each other. You think, China will get involved into a war with a nuclear armed neighbour? Please talk sense.

Let's be clear, China is a rational, business driven economy. While Pakistan is a emotional, irrational State. Till the time it suits the Chinese they will do business with you. And we are glad they do business with you. At least, there will remain one country which can be trusted to talk with Pakistan, if and when things go ballistic.

we need to fed poor we need to educate our youth. i am currently living in UAE but never saw Indian abusing Pakistani or Pakistani bashing indian infact we plays matches in Al ain car parking but don't know neighbor ban ke he kyun jani dushman ban jate hein ? any Idea mate ?
Its in our DNA, I too have similar experiences outside the Indian sub continent.

Once home, we transform into hating devils.

I guess there is very little possibility of renegotiation of IWT, as Pakistan will never agree for that.

What I can see is India will now claim 20% of western rivers by building dams and reservoirs in Kashmir, and will full divert all the three eastern rivers for its benefit.

No, and hope we will not fight.
I know this but there has to be some start. We should not be seen as doing this for punishing Pakistan but for our genuine concerns. We can take the cue from rejection of IWT in the J&K assembly and China building the dams on Indus and Sutlej plus lack of shared goodwill.

Yes...I too observed the same in US and UK, but may be the political hostilities rub on ordinary people here in the sub continent.

. . .
ccording to him, in an event of a war all agreements between countries can become null and void, however, if there is no war, India cannot withdraw from the IWT unilaterally without huge legal costs.

Utter rubbish. Typical problem with Pakistanis is they do not understand legality. Even in the case of war, there are agreements in place, which ensure certain assets and infrastructural elements are not attacked conventionally to prevent large scale civilian fatalities.

media is the main perpetrator for brain washing the people of the both side. Kashmir was the unsettled dispute from past 70 years. we brought weapon from USA you brought it from Russia and we are consistently fighting with each other and they are getting $$ from selling their weapon to both of us. hum chutiye ban rahay hein aur woh log mazay le rahay hein :(

India need not cancel the treaty. It can waste water in Kashmir so that lesser water flows to Pakistan.

I don't think it is a great idea for India to unilaterally get out of IWT. India's image will suffer greatly and all the sympathy that India garnered will be squandered, and moreover India has to come across as a responsible power for greater role in International field.

If India wants to change provisions of IWT, it has to renegotiate IWT with Pakistan. I don't see this happening.

Anyway, I feel India need to get the maximum out of the IWT under existing treaty. There is no need for delinquency.

Well said.

I have maintained that the K Issue has become an industry on both sides. Too many people make money out of it for it to simmer down.

Besides, assuming for a moment it gets solved. Think how many across the world will lose their jobs. in US, China, UK, Russia, EU, Israel to name a few.

Our animosity provides jobs & runs homes across the globe, why would anyone want it to stop ? We fight while others laugh their way to the bank on our money.

Without commenting on the merits or otherwise of withdrawing from the IWT, I find this position more than a bit exasperating. So much worry about image, let's not do this, let's not avenge the killing of our soldiers, our image might be damaged.....we might get the "good boy" certificate revoked....All that for what end.We only set ouselves for more kicks in the pants,

China does none of those & does fine for itself. I see no reason why we can't be more hard headed when our interests demands it.

No need to do anything, just let this idea hang in the air. No need to play nice.

The Pakistanis will do their best to block any such attempt as they have been doing all these years. You might see the cases lost by them, not the financial implications of such delays. We must replicate a design already arbitrated on & just replicate it while simply refusing to engage in either discussions or arbitration on that using the position that this has been decided & we are not about to revisit it. It will at the very least, make life more interesting for the Pakistanis.

First of all this whole debate is meaningless.

India has NO intention of getting out of the IWT.

All we are going to do is go ahead and violate the terms of the IWT and suspend the Indus water commission.

Doesn't matter whether we want to get out of the IWT or not, it serves our purpose to have the Pakistanis dwell on it.
