Why did the sikhs not have any desire fir a independent sikh kingdom during the 1940s?
an independent sikh state would be independent, not part of Pakistan nor India but could choosh friendship with both

why choosh minority status with the risk of any flare-up resulting in the minority being pissed on like the sikhs were in the 1980s
the sikhs had a kingdom for a shortwhile in the 1700s this would have been the modern sikh manifestation of that Kingdom recognised by Pakistan, india and even the U.N
plenty of small states have flourished a sikh state could have too, why choosh minority status among 1.3 billion

Perhaps you have not fully read about the subject. A handful of sikhs under the leadership of Master Tara Singh did advocate an independent punjabi state for sikhs but they did not get much support from the majority of the sikhs. However, Master Tara Singh is revered in India for his contribution to India's freedom movement and his role during the partition to save the sikhs from being butchered by the muslims. Many doubt that it was at his behest that sikhs counter butchered muslims during the partition. He got Haryana carved out of Punjab in 1966 where sikhs had majority.
Secondly its unthinkable that sikhs will ever forgive and forget muslims for the persecution of their religious gurus. The rest of India has muslim population in almost all villages and cities but the sikhs ensured that their villages and cities were clean of muslims.
Third, sikhs and hindus are culturally integrated. You will often see a Sikh Man marrying a hindu woman and vice-versa with full social acceptance and without anyone raising any question about it.
Fourth, you are talking about Sikh Kingdom in the time of democracy when so called Maharaja of Patiala goes door to door seeking votes. Democracy is yet to sink in the thought process of Pakistanis.
Fifth, knowing sikhs, Jinnah supporting a sikh state would have made sikhs oppose it without a second thought. Sikhs do not trust muslims.
Six, when a sikh can rule the 100% of India why he would restrict himself to just 2% of it. A sikh was PM of India for continuously 10 years and it never occurred to anyone that a minority was PM.
Now you tell me why didn't all muslims choose to go to Pakistan?
Why they accepted to live in India in minority?
Why didn't Shias demand an independent Shia state in Pakistan?
Why Shias live in minority in Pakistan and not have an independent Shia state for themselves like Iran?
