Alright coming to the question, Sikhs were fleeced by Nehru and Master Tara Singh by promising to give them special status much like Kashmiris and that promise was later reneged which partly led to Punjabi Suba agitation, Khalistan movement et all. I'm pretty sure that if there was a referendum in 1947, Sikhs would have elected independence. Now there is no point, India and Pakistan have had almost 70 years of hateful coexistence, Punjab has been divided into a tiny fraction of its previous size, the youth have been weakened by drug addictions while the cream of the crop have immigrated abroad.

Punjab was a British Territory
Its merger into India happened automatically

Kashmir being a princely state was free to choose
And The special status was necessary for keeping Kashmiris on India's side
To keep Sheikh Abdullah on India's side

Pakistanis were NOT demanding Punjab

What would help in healing wounds is if those responsible for those atrocities were behind bars or hanging at the end of a rope.Instead they walk around with smug smiles safe in the knowledge that they will never face justice.
