Why hasn't Pakistan been able to have a sustained GDP growth rate?

Tribal chieftains don't like educated masses.

End of Discussion.

nahh, education isn't the only factor. We don't want a scenario where Phd's are fighting for a clerk job just like in our neighbors. The issue is people need to stop investing in real state and start investing in businesses that are export oriented.

The latter part of your sentence however can be worked with. Real Estate in itself is not a problem, it's how value is generated from the land that remains a problem. Get passed that then you land yourself in a situation where there is no competition, no market can be sustained if there is absolute monopoly for too long.

I would like to reiterate. Education or there lack of is the key factor for stunted economic growth.

Pakistan has had a very uneven growth path since independance.

One year the growth rate is 7% and then the next it's 2%.

Why hasn't Pakistan been able to sustain a high GDP growth rate?

Look at Bangladesh for example their GDP growth rate hasn't fallen below 4% since the start of this century. Even this year, it is above 4%. No wonder their economy is bigger than ours now.

When will Pakistan grow at 7-8% a year and when will it be able to sustain it?

The average GDP growth rate for Pakistan will be 4% for the next 5 years.

2% in 2020, and then 4% for 2022, 2023, and 2024 and then 5% for 2025.
When people like these come to power then it is understandable.

These kind of jokers were present in India also now no one asks them. One thing is good about Imran, he does not endorse corruption.

You can't export real estate lol
I don't think China would let Pakistan bankrupt, China will make CEPC work one way or another, and CPEC has multiple dimentions, don't forget that corridor runs through some disputed land between India and Pakistan, CEPC put a heavy Chinese stake in it and virtually killed India's dream to take over that piece of land.
Thanks for the good news. Make Cpec work one way or another. Pakistan needs 29 billion dollars external financing each year which will bankrupt Pakistan if exports don't rise to 40 billion USD.

Of interest is comparison with Bangla. I would suggest the Bangla miracle [massive garment export industry] is premised on the hard working, literate and emancipated females of that country. It is the ordinary Banla girl who has literaly turned the fortune of Bangladesh through her hard work. Notice femalke literacy is far better in Bangladesh. This feeds into a better educated, better fed and better equipped future generation as women are critical in that. Meaning a better educated girl equals a better future popoulation resource that can actually compete in global economy. Not b e cannon fodder for exploding vests, mullah foot soldiers to create choas and burning their own cities because some Danish twat burned the holy Quran.

Pakistan: Overall literacy rate is 57.9% (male=69.5%, women=45.8%)
Bangladesh:Overall literacy rate is 61.6% (male=64.6%, women=58.5%)

Please note that while difference is around 6% between genders in Bangladesh, it is striking 24% in case of Pakistan. Also see that while Pakistani men are some 5% behind Bangladeshi men, the situation become serious with 13% gap for women. In fact, India can also learn few things from its eastern neighbour.
That is a worn excuse. China was mother of nationalized economy that Bhutto was inspired by. It began opening up long after Bhutto was dead and buried. China began to really open up in Gen Zia's time who was alt-right. In that time look what Shanghai became and look where Karachi is.

So, sorry that excuse does not fly ...

Well the womens' literacy rate in Bangladesh improved because of the 'send your girl to school' program, started by Khaleda Zia in the 90's. At the end of the month households got a sack of rice as a reward. These measures resulted in not only highest rate of female labor participation in South Asia (higher than the US as a matter of fact), it also resulted in higher female secondary education, lowering of birthrate and fertility (lowest in South Asia and below that of India, Sanghis take note) and many other female emancipation parameters and UN SDG goals.

Above all, two of the largest Bangladeshi NGO's (also largest globally, BRAC and Grameen, latter founded by Dr. Muhammad Yunus) played a huge part in Bangladesh doing well in 14 different UN designated World Development Indicators (WDIs) - which portrays a picture of the living standards of people in our three South Asian countries. Let's take a look.

GDP per capita, below is not correct, Bangladesh exceeded India's figure in mid 2020.

You got patriot politicians and NGOs. Sadly Pakistan lacks both.

.
political stability is must but in our country kanjer khana of politicians keep going on all the time no gov relaxed and think of it . we have useless politicians with very narrow minds . and at the end of every gov they destroy economy so next gov can not have good economy .

They are working. Poor things work hard. They cook, massage, tend to the dozen kids all the while getting pregnant every year because the husband has literally taken the mullah advice to "go forth and multiply". All this though is not econonically productive in modern global economy.

Well religiosity is strong in all underclass populations in developing countries. If you notice, all Bangladesh apparel workers are covering their hair. That does not mean that you have to sit at home. Grandmother can mind the babies. Young women can go work and get paid instead of performing unpaid work.

That is the difference.

chal tou technical education bna lay, I was only giving an example, the news wasn't that only Phds were applying for a clerks job but also people who had masters, bachelors and other degrees.

How is real state continuing to be a viable business? its that people(middle class) buying property around urban areas expecting the price of property to go up, as long as more people are migrating to that particular city. And when there is enough demand a monopoly man comes and buys from those middle class people and creating housing societies and etc. Foreign remittances are getting converted into property and not businesses that is the issue here. This is effecting in such a way that rich is getting richer without creating any reasonable amount of jobs.

I would like to reiterate. Education or there lack of is the key factor for stunted economic growth.
You want our people to be as depressed as our neighbors? Ignorance is a bliss. Human nature is to have more and more, its a never ending well. There aren't enough jobs for every one. Businesses create jobs not "educated people" and for a business you already need money, either through a bank or by your own. Education does help in wanting a person to do something, but when there is nothing to do, it only leads to depression and discontent. Do you think, the arabs were/are highly educated? They had wealth thus resulting in businesses thus creating jobs for poor. Education without danda is useless, I would be all for it if it was Chinese model, where government took everything in their own hands. And you hear terms like human abuse, chinese sweat shops, you ok with that model?

its because education policy is screwed. they are mass producing corporate slaves. none of what is taught can be applied in Pakistan.

The rich will get richer by mathematics. A society is morally obligated to seek means that the divide between the haves and have nots don't result in mass hysteria.

There's education and then there is institutionalised education. I hope you now can put my posts in a better context.

I'll take that as a complement. :-)

Well politicians are lootera scumbags all over the world, including in Bangladesh. What saved us was the NGO's. Especially the large ones.

Plus we have a very active civil society component and doing yeoman's work helping the less privileged is considered very honorable for upper class folks.

Feudal philosophy and culture in Bangladesh is less stronger compared to some areas in Pakistan. And religious following is less organized and more private, most Bangladeshis are Sunnis and followers of Sufi orders. Ergo, women possibly enjoy less restrictions to go work outside the home compared to rest of the subcontinent.

I feel that India and Bangladesh should start an industrial corridor for indigenous products of both countries as we have similar economic stats. Your say?
