What's new

Why hasn't Pakistan been able to have a sustained GDP growth rate?

I feel that India and Bangladesh should start an industrial corridor for indigenous products of both countries as we have similar economic stats. Your say?

India as a country has been allotted at least two large Industrial export zones in Bangladesh.

Bangladeshi companies are also trying to invest in India.

However Indian industrialists so far see this in protectionist light and your govt. at their behest has so far not been open about this.

I hope mood will change in the future.

These stats are wrong especially fertility. We made tons of babies in quarantine.

So is cousin marriage making retarded babies BS false. We literally have chalak as fcuk star plus aunty trained children all over Pakistan, busy in all sort of isler, plotting and planning of creative kind.

Maybe I should make an infographic where I give number 1 trophy to Pakistan and post it on google.

The stats I posted are based on UN figures and take them with a grain of salt. I do.

However overall trend (as opposed to annual figures) cannot be denied. It is visible on the ground in Bangladesh, the general improvement in living standards.

I only mentioned these stats because I was tagged and asked to do it.

If you come tell me Bangladesh is an effed up 3rd world country, I'll be the first to admit it. No shame in admitting the truth. There is no izzet-dari or one-up-man-ship here. You have to call a spade a spade.

Many problems and avenues of improving them exist in Bangladesh, the important thing is to acknowledge problems first, then have planning and willingness to tackle the shortcomings in the short and long terms and work toward them without losing momentum.

Having NGO's helps offset the disruptions made by incompetent corrupt politicians.

Like your daily Salat, Niyat (Intention) to perform always comes first.

I’ve seen BD set up a SEZ where Adani has invested also Walton of BD has invested in India for exporting electronics, initially Washing Machines. I feel this bilateral trade should grow in near future as we already have good diplomatic relations and we both have the highest growth potential in the whole subcontinent. Your take?

BOOM & BURST

Gdp start to tick to 3-4% and get stuck due to ignoring manfacturing---->govt stimulates it via OVERSPENDING THROUGH STATE BANK lending(also called note printing--->gdp tiks up as spending goes up---> CAD goes up as no base for this stimulus /note printing existed---> govt borrows to artificially keep the rupee stable--->ultimately noone gives u money ..>everything crashes
I don't think China would let Pakistan bankrupt, China will make CEPC work one way or another, and CPEC has multiple dimentions, don't forget that corridor runs through some disputed land between India and Pakistan, CEPC put a heavy Chinese stake in it and virtually killed India's dream to take over that piece of land.
Best thing china can do is give pakistan prferential market acess though this is not easy give WTO but some aspects are doable

.
Then why the heck did they build so costly Cpec for? How are Pakistanis gonna pay back to China without exports? @beijingwalker

So the revolutionary Cpec was just a false promise as it won't be leading to any export growth in Pakistan? Any idea how Pakistanis are going to payback Cpec?

hint china will use CPEC loans as a lever to control Pakistan
they will forgive some debt to keep things from becoming unbearable

Reasons abbreviated -

  • Too much religion.
  • Too much mosque.
  • Too much Mullah power.
  • Too much prayers.

  • Not enough education
  • Not enough skill learning
  • Not enough hard work ethic
  • Not enough opening to the global economy
  • Not being being open to new ideas
What does it has to do with religion ?

Bangladesh-India bilateral trade is tilted heavily in India's favor, 15~18 Billion vs. paltry Bangladeshi exports of only 1 Billion yearly.

India needs to even the playing field by withdrawing pointless non-tariff barriers which are imposed on Bangladesh products at the behest of Indian businessmen. This stands in the way of improving trade and may see reciprocal imposition of NTB on Indian products in Bangladesh, which is undesirable.

However we are straying from the topic at hand. Let's open a separate thread to discuss other topics.

Not only economic growth that should be discussed, but also Pakistan high inflation.......

What does it has to do with religion ?
Everything. No modern country has managed to develop itself by placing religion in such importance as the Pakistani state. The Chinese did nbot succeed by having millions in madaris, the Chinese did not succeed by having religion dominating everything. Even the Turks who are only Muslim country to do well have a secular disposition.

chal tou technical education bna lay, I was only giving an example, the news wasn't that only Phds were applying for a clerks job but also people who had masters, bachelors and other degrees.

How is real state continuing to be a viable business? its that people(middle class) buying property around urban areas expecting the price of property to go up, as long as more people are migrating to that particular city. And when there is enough demand a monopoly man comes and buys from those middle class people and creating housing societies and etc. Foreign remittances are getting converted into property and not businesses that is the issue here. This is effecting in such a way that rich is getting richer without creating any reasonable amount of jobs.

You want our people to be as depressed as our neighbors? Ignorance is a bliss. Human nature is to have more and more, its a never ending well. There aren't enough jobs for every one. Businesses create jobs not "educated people" and for a business you already need money, either through a bank or by your own. Education does help in wanting a person to do something, but when there is nothing to do, it only leads to depression and discontent. Do you think, the arabs were/are highly educated? They had wealth thus resulting in businesses thus creating jobs for poor. Education without danda is useless, I would be all for it if it was Chinese model, where government took everything in their own hands. And you hear terms like human abuse, chinese sweat shops, you ok with that model?
The Chinese government controls everything? Why do Chinese private companies invest heavily in India but not Pakistan???

Human abuse and sweat shops? Tell you a secret. China, Japan and South Korea(SK is the most) all have this history. But... Which one is behind and poorer than you?

Just Xinjiang. Can Pakistan reach the economic level of Xinjiang in 20 years???

Thats why we never signed RCEP, the thing is that Bangladesh’s manufacturing sector is not that powerful as that of India which itself lags behind a lot but due to government efforts we gained significantly in manufacturing but still lag light years behind China. In a few years when Bangladesh’s manufacturing sector grows then bilateral trade will become even as USA is not a manufacturing hub while India has significant production capabilities thats why India has a huge trade advantage over USA but huge deficit with China. Walton has started exporting electronics and hence these things will reduce Indo-Bangladesh trade imbalance.

religion as practiced by Pakistanis is not conducive to economic growth
Then its not religion its the attitude of people. Remove religion they will adopt something else.

What are teaching of Islams?

  1. HOnest business dealing.
  2. Honor your commitment
  3. Hard working
  4. Just salaries to the worker
  5. no hoarding
  6. no lying
  7. actual description of goods
  8. Market based economy and prices
  9. All business dealings are to be in writing.
  10. No briberies.
  11. Strict merit system
All these things are missing from our economy. Then how religion is responsible? Infact if we follow the religious teachings in business then we might end up doing much better business.
Sometimes you have someone in your life who you blame for anything that goes wrong. For some Pakistani's this is religion. Anything wrong in Pakistan is the fault of religion, not poverty, mass illiteracy, bad governance, military coups, just religion.
I can say nothing but pray for Hidayat of such misguided people.

Ok so you are telling me if I am offering prayers then I cannot do research on quantum physics?

Ok if I agree to your logic then why east Europe, Philippine, South American countries are struggling economically ? They also do not follow religion like the economically developed countries.
