Why does India still play second fiddle to China? | The Telegraph

Superpower in sports? Let's check.

In 2012 Olympics, india ranked 55, behind Bahamas, Grenda and Uganda.

If Olympics is too complicated, then look at the most basic sports - athletics. In 2015 IAAF World Championships, indian team scored only 1 point in final Placing Table, on par with KSA, Modolva and Ecuador.

Other than athletics, look at another ordinary sports - swimming. In 2015 World Aquatics, indian team simply scored zero. Singapore, Lithuania, Malaysia & Argentina each got at least one medal.

Oh you are number one in many other things too

Owing to difficulties that scholars in and outside China encounter in accessing “state secrets,” the exact figure of the “abnormal death” has become a recurring debate in the field of China studies. Estimates by various scholars range from one-half to eight million. According to Rummel’s 1991 analysis of, the figure should be around 7.73 million (Rummel, 1991: 253)

@AndrewJin great sacrifices have been made to reach this level of perfection? By 1973 many people of this forum were born. They could actually give you eyewitness testimony if they were in your country.

Yes,In famine years Chinese death rate only higher than India once.

You didn't need famine for people to die did you? And how long ago was this? A time when many people in this forum were alive and kicking, not some distant and dark history 500 years ago.

You run out of ideas that you need to use decades years old data to prove China 2015 or future?
If that is the case, India will be forever a colonial of UK,right?

Behind Uganda?
Seriously?
Are u making up this horrible lie?

India is just terrible at sports. As you said, lack of nutrition and bad cooking habits along with dismal healthcare, hygiene plays it's part. All this leads to a disinterest in sports, which Indians try to pass off as genuine disinterest in sports. They are disinterested because they are bad at sports all said and done.

Most of India's medal winners, in sporting events apart from olympics, are from NE colonies when accounting for population differences. Manipur for example produces tons of sportpersons with a population that is less than...well most Indian cities.
NE India could have done better.
Look at those tiny population countries like Singapore!

India would have been a far more civilised place if that was the case. That's for sure.
They brag democracy and English everyday and all thanks to....?
@mike2000 is back

I'm only impressed at the healthy and great growth of mother china that does not need democracy and I sports superpower. You got 100s of gold medals( without performance enhancers), nobel prizes (without trying to wine and dine the nobel committee)...and we got 7 million more people lving because we didn't go through 'revolutionary changes'. And strangely yours is the only generation that has seen some money- the heydays of cultural reolution seen by your parent's generation (and the great leap forward and dozens of experiments before too) meant that most of them were destitute and dying of hunger in famines.

Now what were you saying?

Are you ashamed to keep your Chinese flags?

India's death rate is only slightly lower in 1960,and the other years china is only half to India.

You are obsessed with 1989,how can tanks ingore high buildings and go casually.
Those students who killed the others with gun everywhere deserve it.
@dy1022 Can ur house defend urself?
u can be obsessed on "attention from UK", to toilets to malnutrition (all of which can be changed, with time)....thats all rite.
but when I quote a single leaf from history (cant be changed with time), u get all roused up ??
not fair.

Yes it was factual, Uganda performs better than india in Olympics, check official links I posted.

Despite india and Sub-Saharan-Africa (SSA) are about the same in terms of economic development (SSA is still 11.2% higher in GDP/capita), SSA performs far better in sports.

Shocking news...:o:
I think they aren't the best even in cricket although they spend so many time and money in that colonial game.

Another commonwealth :cheesy:

Sports is one thing that SSA countries are good at, economic development is another. Despite the low base (2014 GDP/capita still only $1,773.9), many fastest growing economies are in SSA, check these top 10:

GDP growth (annual %) | Data | Table
  1. South Sudan 36.2 <---SSA
  2. Turkmenistan 10.3
  3. Ethiopia 9.9 <---SSA
  4. Congo, Dem. Rep. 9.0 <---SSA
  5. Cote d'Ivoire 9.0 <---SSA
  6. Myanmar 8.5
  7. Uzbekistan 8.1
  8. Palau 8.0
  9. Mongolia 7.8
  10. Maldives 7.6
