So, who are our heroes? I wondered, if these young men were laid to rest with such anonymity and forgotten so quickly, there must be people in this country who could be remembered for the things they had done. Surely there should be some people who could draw respect, admiration and deference to be remembered long after their bones were interred. Its why I decided to look for these heroes – our national protagonists. The movers and shakers of Pakistan. But the names that came up were of strange people; controversial, contentious and provocative with a damning history. Either they were convicts, convicted of some petty crime, or they were absconders who had fled the consequences of their omissions and commissions. The dead were idolized for the crimes that they did such as Qadri for killing the Governor of Punjab yet others were claiming that Osama Bin Laden was a legend. We have Asma Jehangir, the Joan of Arc of Pakistan and now Khadim Rizvi suddenly the voice of millions. Justice Seth who wanted to drag Musharaff in the streets and hang him publically as the public at large cheered him on, admiring him for his courage - courage in the face of what, is still a moot question. In this vein I await the passing of Mullah Aziz Burqa in anticipation of being entertained by the spectacle of the unholy worship he shall draw to his person. Then there are the living marvels, Marvi Sarmad, another popular figure who sticks to her slogan my-body my- business while outspoken Jibran plays out his liberal rhetoric. His concern is the missing people, who are occasionally discovered terrorizing the armed forces. Then of course there are the Hamid Mirs, who always have a cause and as long as it's against the government it would do and if it does not exist then it is invented. My question is, that does Pakistan really have no good people to emulate, quote or stand up as examples? Is this all what we have? If this be true then I take that famous argument against Islamophobia, 'that we are not all bad, its just a few that give us all a bad name', with a pinch of salt. We are all guilty. We stand for pedophiles, we suppress women, we mistreat children and as a society our heroes and heroines are those who we able to abuse power, or exploit ideology for their own purposes. This is who we are.

We do. Abdus Sattar Edhi, Ansar Burney, Iqbal Masih, Mukhtaran Mai, Asma Jahangir (for her work for bonded labor and women's rights), Musarrat Misbah (acid attack work), Adeeb Rizvi among many others.

The commoners have done far more for the Pakistani awaam than the boots and the politicians.

Plenty of others as well - be it TCF folks with their hundreds of schools or other society.

Each have their own contributions even in boot form which are unheard because they arent “glorious “ per the common perception.

Sadly, I am unable to count a single politician in the positive development list simply because there is too much sewage to find the gold in it.

Even in top brass, there are those which made fairly big contributions - are highly qualified PhDs but you don’t hear about them because they don’t command infantry, armor or artillery.
why we dont hear about such people?

why Pakistani elite class is so stingy? be it military or civilian

what about our first hindu law minister Jogendranath Mandal
and why Jinnah appointed him as the first law minister?
Jogendra_Nath_Mandal.jpg

who stood for the equal rights of the non muslims in front of muslim elite.
I think he is worthy enough to be called as a hero.

From the start, Pakistani opportunist elite stood for the appeasement of majority.
From the start, state discriminating among its citizens on the basis of religion,
maybe state can start from apologizing to our founding father and first hindu law minister, who died as a refugee in India. 😭
and 70 years later our people in power are questioning who are our heroes.

Asma Jahangir ka sunke aag lagay gi I knew it.

She did a lot for the oppressed classes. Bonded labor, landless farmers, women whose family threw then out, falsely accused of blasphemy etc.

Of course mard-e-momins will find her bad. She threatened their status quo.

Discussing about human rights with bal thakrey. This sums up her mentality.
Even rouf kalasra who want Pakistan india friend ship is critical about her because of cases of big companies and defender of corrupts.

Frankly I don't see anything scandalously wrong with her meeting Bal Thackeray. He was a vile Muslim hating fascist but his son Uddhav Thackeray is proving to be a safeguard of sorts for Maharashtrian Muslims against the BJP mobs.

Your trash-talking with Hindutvas wouldn't do much to you sitting in Pakistan but it would make life difficult for Muslims in India. Finding some allies amongst them can help make life better for Indian Muslims and Kashmiris.

Her father campaigned against the East Pakistan operation and he was called a traitor for that. Anyone who challenges the status quo is a traitor

Bewaqoof hain woh log jinhon nain Pakistan k liay qurbanian Deen. Afsoos k sath kehta hon keh mery bary bhi bewaqoof thy.
One sacrifices and gives services for a country, which pledges a better life and protection for everyone. In Pakistan we can see gangs, mafias all over the place.
What constitutes state of Pakistan? Military? Corrupt. Bureaucracy? Corrupt. Politicians? Corrupt. People are adulttrating with foods items, with whatever is coming in their hands.

It's all a chaos.

And I am not going to give my life for this chaos. The ones who gave were fools.
