I don't know why we get all the credit along with America when it comes to the victory against the Soviets in Afghanistan. Saudi Arabia played a pretty big role too.

Anyway, I'm going for the last option.

Don't know why some people think Pakistan single-handily destroyed the Soviet Union. This is just delusion on their part. Soviet Union was a sick country when it decided to invade Afghanistan in 1979. And if weren't for US & Saudi bankrolling the whole enterprise, where would Pakistan be?

Nobody thinks we single handedly defeated them, but we played a big part.

pakistan started proxy war against Soviets started even before usa involvement. intelligence had given reports of russian invading afghanistan and then balochistan even before they actually did that. zia was offered assistance from the world few years later. Zia rejected this as "peanuts". this statement fully shows that pakistan was not just a helper but the initiator of the resistance because it was the war of existance for pakistan.
before the russians invaded afghanistan they had created some influence in pakistan specially in balochistan. even the low baloch resistance today had some roots there and was mentioned by shuja pasha in his speech to parliamentarians. poets in pakistan under communist influence had started to write poems welocming soviets. bhutto had started to move into the soviet camp. it was absolutely clear on pakistan that it isn't just the war of afghans but the war of survival for pakistan.

Hmmm for the bold part well would have been in peace so would have the region.

For the non bold part well if USSR was a sick country then whats with USA? USA Is not a sick country.

Northwest India?

 despite bacha khan's services to India it never became northwest India.

the first word of your two-word statement sounds more authentic

Soviet Union did itself. its policies at that time slowly lead to its to downfall.

Anyone mentioning Afghan War must check that withdrawal was due to a general policy shift during Gorbachev's time.

The region did not became India but became an Arabistan denying the Indian and local influence and culture !

As a result the progress is evident now in that region.

We did it by our own hands. No one could defeat the Soviet Union. It was the greatest army in the history of mankind.

And then you woke up and left Afghanistan with your tails tucked between your legs

.
Gorbachev defeated the Soviet Union. Even Allah could not have defeated the USSR in a conventional war.

Muslims fight even against insurmountable odds, that's what happened in Afghanistan. If it were hindus you would have surrendered and lost right from the start because you lack courage and heart

.
The Soviet Union was defeated by Boris Yeltsin who brought Russia out of the Union.
The United States brought the Soviet Union to its knees, with minor contributions
from other countries.

Yes, USSR collapsed under her own weight by late 1980s.

Do notice another thing: Early in the nation’s history as the United States made the transition from being a developing economy to being a major economic superpower, foreign investment flowed into capital development projects such as railroad and canal construction which aided the westward expansion and the development of heavy industries. By 1920, foreigners had withdrawn many of their assets from the United States to finance World War I, which turned the United States into a net creditor. This net creditor position grew unabated after World War II and all the way into the 1980s, until Reagan times, when the trend came to a halt and began developing in the opposite direction. United States first lost the status as largest creditor, then turned into debtor status which continued to spiral downwards through the 1990s till nowadays. By end of first quarter 2016, net position has sunk to negative $7.5256 trillion, sinking at a speed close to $1 trillion per annum.

USSR resurged as Russia, while the United States was never the same world's largest creditor nation as before.

Nobody actually defeated the Soviet Union. They collapsed due to their own stringent economic and political system.

But no doubt that the Red Army was one of the greatest forces the world ever saw.

Actually I always wonder at copycat response like "Pakistan became arabistan" etc etc even by most educated ones who fail to search and understand that there is a hell lot difference between arabism and Islamism :). in fa ct Islam is negation of arabism.

As far as the Indian culture I would disagree because IVC is not Indian culture. Modern day India in fact has no indigenous culture as well. You can boast about ancient India as much as we can. The only difference is India has succeeded to preserve past ruins whereas Pakistanis failed to do so.

This is big achievement on part of India so far as long as tourism in this field is concerned
