When will China become a global superpower?

Only when you shall officially designate the name of your country as "People's Republic of 'Global Superpower' China.":china:

China took back its sovereignty in 1949. We stabilized our state and secured our land borders from 1949 until 1991. Since 1991, we have been expanding our maritime power projection, including Taiwan, East China Sea and South China Sea. We acquired a true nuclear deterrent against USA in 2006.

In less than 5 years, we will able to push out USA in any naval conflict within the first island chain with our advanced warships the Type 056 corvette. Between 2015 and 2025, we will build up blue water carrier battle groups to patrol the Western Pacific and indian ocean. By 2025 at the latest, China will expel US influence from Asia and become #1 Asian superpower like it was for 1800 of the past 2000 years.

china is a superpower in some respects already.

thats why we are always talked about and why our opinions matter on the world stage on major international issues.

china is the only country that is capable of becoming a superpower, thats because china is the only country that is not under the influence of the west.
rule number 1 to be a superpower, is you have to be independent.

people talk about india, but india will never be any power because india loves being subservient to the whites like slaves.
indians dont have ambitions for superpower, they are very unambitious people.

there is a reason india is not talked about as a superpower, because america will never allow it to happen. america will only allow india to rise to a certain point and then do what it did to japan in the 1980s and crush them. india can be easily controlled by its democracy. the west dont even consider indian opinions.

china dont have that restriction, china is far too powerful to be controlled by the west.

we are the only country that is able to have superpower status in all areas from economics, military, politics, technological, cultural, information, diplomatic, sports.

not only that but the US is a crumbling empire, as all empires with massive debts suddenly collapse, the US is no different.
when the US empire collapses, it will leave a massive vaccuum just as the soviet collapse left a massive vaccuum.

in the world, its always US vs china.
thats the only rivalry worth watching in the 21st century.

China is not a superpower because it fails on the fundamental criterion of being a superpower; having influences on large number of countries to side with it, like the USA and the Soviet Union did.

Japan at one point had the biggest economy in the world when the yen surged back in the 90s; yet it was not called a superpower because Japan could not influence other countries to side with them politically. By the same test, China fails the superpower test because no country with the single exception of Pakistan would side with China politically and diplomatically.

So when will China become a superpower? That is when China can persuade other countries to side with it, a feat that we are unlikely to see in our life time.

it's to be done by money ,not by persuation.and China's economy will overtake US in a decade.

a feat that we are unlikely to see in our life time.

you must be a very old person.

it's to be done by money
The worship of money is the Chinese way of thinking that is incompatible with the rest of the world.

The Soviet Union, while not being rich, was a superpower because it formed an alliance with 50 other countries. China is not a superpower because almost all of its neighbors are against China.

it depends on how you term superpowers, the definition of that term changes with time, the cold war blocks were the legacy of the ww2,but future situation could be quite different.so prediction for the future is not our job.

it depends on how you term superpowers
Superpower is a country that takes a leadership to influence a large block of countries, like the Soviet Union and the United States.

Germany and Japan, even with their economic might, are not called superpowers because they lack political and diplomatic influences on other countries. The same goes for China.

I am sorry, sport? That's one of the criteria for superpower?

Lawrence Saez, senior lecturer at the School of Oriental and African Studies, in London, says: "When China decides to take over Taiwan, that is when it will be a superpower. Unquestionably that will be the day."

The peaceful unification of Taiwan IS already in progess. While China talk about peaceful unification. What is happening quietly is actually peaceful integration of Taiwan.

Step one has already been achieved. That is Taiwan drift towards independance has already been stopped. Even if Tsai Ying Wen wins the election.

Taiwan integration to China is already full steam ahead.
It started with the links on postal, sealink and airlink. Recently a newly launched catameran service will take only 2hrs to reach Taiwan. So now up to 2millions Taiwanese live in the mainland. And they are mostly GMD supporters. And of course China always have offers of discount tickets to Taiwan during elections !
Then with trade and economic integration with the Afta FTA. Even Tsai Ying Wen cannot reverse AFTA. Taiwan needs China to grow.
Then more mainland Students exchanges, Mainland Tourist visits. Cultural exchanges like the recent Song dynasty painting that was torn into 2 pieces were joined and unified in Taiwan after hundreds of years.
Chinese singers Song Zhu Yi, a famous Patrotic singer in the Mainland is even singing in Taiwan.

China do not need to fire a shot. China military already cover the whole of Taiwan and beyond Taiwan East coast.

And since the entire world including India already says Taiwan is part of China why do China need to attack ?

In another 10 years Taiwan integration back to China will be so complete the only different between Taiwan and the Mainland is the noisey election campaign...over trival issues.

Warfare is not just about weapons.

Do not forget Hong Kong. China got back Kowloon and Hong Kong Island from the Iron Lady without firing a shot.

Let me ask you, what kind of "free" people would want to give up their freedom to be controlled by a totalitarian regime? No one!

Taiwanese don't want a "unification" with China; they always felt they were Taiwanese separate from China, and they want to stay it that way. Those 10% of population supporting KMT do not speak for all of Taiwanese, who actually prefers to declare the Republic Of Taiwan.

KMT is still ruling them. On the other hand, we know that North Korea will never reunify with the South. If a South Korean steps 1 cm into North Korea without permission they will be shot and killed with no mercy.
