Thanks for the clarification joe, regarding gupta's yes i know them as traders in my home town vijayawada there is a trading place where most businesses are located. There are some gupta's in gold business and some other general trade. I always thought the same whenever talking of gupta dynasty how the hell did traders become kings?? In my previous company in Mumbai one sachin agarwal was always proud of being an agarwal, never understood who they were?

Regarding vaidya's i came to know about this caste only after u posted and i wiki'd.

One's head must be swirling thinking of so many castes and practically vomiting thinking of gotra's and other break down. My god whoever designed them must be admired atleast for preparing such elaborate break down which is mind numbing. Ofcourse we would break his head now for all this jhamela.

Not sure about Gupta dynasty, however Sena dynasty were Brahma-Khatriya, Brahmins who adopted the role of Khatriyas.

Although we are conservative, we do hold great respect for the Sufi saints.

I suppose you've met professionals, so personality wise they will be like that.

I'm sure If you met some farmers and villagers your opinion would change quickly. :D

I have to agree though, even my personality is very introverted when it comes to the work place. Contrary to internet belief.

Not really ( about farmers and villagers). I've read a report where the guy was begging for Arains to develop his district, because they were serious, hard-working people, unlike some others that he named, and that I shan't.

What's with you lot today?

First, some kid calls me a professor, I gag and choke and she relents and calls me a retired professor! Ouch!

And now you.

What did I do to you? Tell me and I'll Apologise, on my knees.

I think it the way you eloquently answer questions along with your avatar which makes posters think *oh sh*t Joe is here sh*t is about to get serious*.

In a good way of course. :coffee:

It's true we work hard, but at the same time we have couple of chaudries that like to indulge in not so Islamic practices to say the least.

True ..

But let this castist (Joe ) answer this ..

Who claim there is no more Kshatriya ... Only baniya-battu remain ..

Dear u are far from the truth, just so u know Joe is a quintessential Indian and a true secular at heart and soul. Please don't think of him as a castist or whatever, he is a knowledgeable person and comments from the perspective of topic and a good friend of mine. You sir are plainly mistaken.

It mean .. If ring is small ,don't try with large finger !...:bounce:

It also mean that ... Are Schedule castes listed due to their educational/financial backwardness or due to their Caste hierarchy ?

A scheduled caste listing by the government is one thing. The rating of a caste in social terms is another thing. A Kshatriya is one of the three upper castes, who bear the thread. Of the people you have named, none is eligible to bear the thread. So, no kshatriyas. Other than Varmas, and many people claim that there are no genuine Varmas left. The only remote possibility is a Bhumihar, but there is confusion about them. They may be declassed Brahmins or Kshatriya.

Tough time? Why is that? Please explain.

The marriage rules for Kuleen Kayasthas are VERY complicated!

Dude ! I know he is knowledgeable ...

but point is He is too stubborn to accept that he was wrong on one point.

That is bugging me.

Dude ! don't be mistaken. Bhumihars were upper shudra who after collecting land claim themselves to be Brahmins but Original Brahmins do not accept them as Brahmins.

About Schedule castes.. Care to read your previous posts ...

That he is :P took him lot of time to get angry with Chinese trolling :woot:

Oh it must be like the kingdoms with Brahmin dynasty's may be or am i wrong. I think that Raja Dahir was from Brahmin dynasty ??

That's very interesting, can you give me a URL?

OK, those are not gotras, those are sub-clans or sub-sects. Gotra is restricted to descent from a common ancestor, usually one of the rishis. That is the theory. In practical terms, they were totemic societies within a clan. A gotra name is Dhanvantari, Maudgalya, Kashyap, and so on. For lack of a better name, lots of castes and tribes have adopted the term gotra to describe their sub.-divisions.

Thats my gotra :bounce:

Agarwal is the primary caste name of the bania, the Vaish community. There are eighteen sub-divisions, and they also use the generic name Gupta, I don't know why. Just to complicate things, some of them use their place of origin - Jhunjhunu, Ked, Loh (I am guessing Loh) and so on; they could be any sub-caste under that.

They are Hindus and some are Jains.

I am a Kulachaar Devanga Chettiar, ancestry from old Mysore, Anyone in here is a Chettiar as well?

Chettiar - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hey man then Suniel Shetty must be your distant relative. In Andhra also they are present but called setty as it means "trader" in telugu. Must be corruption of seth in hindi.

Hey u are the baniya Pakistani's always call all the Indians as man :P
