Yes...In Malayalam films spirit is always bought from a Shetty in Karnataka.

Also don't know whether you are aware that the UAE exchange (money transfer) in UAE is run by a Shetty making him the 2nd or 3rd richest Indian in UAE and he owns flats in Burj Khalifa.

They are into hawala, smuggling, real estate and all kinds of activities - hence the mafia connections - they are like the Italian mafia of India..

.
I don't quote them in line but

It was the wording of ex PM V P Singh (Rajput himself)

He clubbed four castes and Named them AJGARs.(Ahir,Jat,Gujjar and Rajput)

I take it that you are a Jat or Gujjar from around the NCR

Ok bro go to any of the Rajput forums or Topix and try telling the Rajputs that they are equal to the Jats or Gujjars, that VP Singh told you that and see the reaction.

Disclaimer : I'm in no way responsible for the gaaliyan that you might get.

Yeah either way you can call . Thevars belongs to martial race and they are rulers of ancient Tamilnadu but I don't want 2 go into that , just see recent examples.

YOu ruled South and Central TN...Not our region - Kongu Nadu....:P

Tevars, Nadars, Gounders and Mudaliyars have a similar lifestyle and business activities down south right?

No man -- I dont want to sound casteist here. But purely from a social hierarchial structure Nadars and Mudaliyars come after the Thevars and Kounders.

By numbers,

Kounders are the dominant caste in/around the Kongu region

Thevars - in the Central and South Central region

Nadars - in deep South

While the traditional occupation of Kounders was farming, soldiering those of Nadars and Mudaliars was mostly business, trade.

.
You may be thinking about Nattukottai Chettiars. They are not the same.

There are a total of 27 sects in Chettiars in general, and the distinction is made based on the occupation of each.

Gounders are pretty dominant in Coimbatore as well.

Well, yes, and more.

Personally, after poring through a lot of anthropological stuff (terribly badly written garbage, but the facts were fascinating), I believe that except for Smarthas and Sri Vaishnavites, most people in Tamil Nadu belong to tribes that were absorbed as castes at the time of the sanskritisation of Tamil Nadu. Look at the tight geographical concentration of most of them. Also the replication of the land-owning caste over and over again.

Expand on that. This is the first time I'm hearing about Sanskritization in Tamil Nadu.

Kovai (Coimbatore) is the heart of Kongu region man.

Are you from TN ?

.
'Spiflarit' as in liquor?? Shetty's are more into the restaurant business and mafia, Chettiar's are spread from TN to AP, to Karnataka, they are industrialists rather than typical baniyas in the north. Most of my sect is into textiles and machinery manufacturing.

Can you please share any info on the origins of Nairs.

Tomorrow? I'm dead on my butt!

No, born and studied in Mumbai and presently in Bangalore. Pollachi is more known for nadars right?

I take grave exception to that pun ! *starts writing a letter to Mrs.Shearer telling her about a certain Ms.Balan* :woot:

If you emigrate to US, you will spend your entire life writing 'letters' and become the 'Butt' of all jokes.

Like it or not but I am allergic to this caste system. My family belongs to very repectable caste but I have never mentioned my caste anywhere in public since I believe its a crap system aimed to further divide people.

Good person is a good person regardless of his caste. The son of a warrior could be coward.

I am not a racist or to be more precise 'Taasub Pasand' :D .Iive made this thread just to gain more knowledge about Pakistan and the people living in this country...I also want to know the caste of Indian members here...n It will be good If you guys also post some history about your own caste..

I am Awan btw

Sir Lepel Henry Griffin states:
"All branches of the tribe are unanimous in stating that they originally came from the neighbourhood of Ghazni to India, and all trace their genealogy to Hasrat Ali the son-in-law of the Prophet. Kutab Shah, who came from Ghazni with Sultan Mahmud, was the common ancestor of the Awans.'

In the opening to his account of the Awan tribe, H. A. Rose comments:
"The Awans are an important tribe, exclusively Muhammadan."

The Awans were amongst those the British considered to be "martial races" and as such, formed an important part of the British Indian Army. In particular, the Awans formed part of the core Muslim group recruited by the British during the First and Second World Wars. tht was stupid

Philip Edward Jones:
"The Awan Tribe is perhaps the most heavily recruited tribe for the Pakistan Army. :azn:

John Henry Hutton has said of the Awans:
"They are exclusively Muslim and probably the descendants of some of the earlier Muslim invaders of the tenth century or earlier."

Notable Awans in History :

Lance Naik Sher Shah (VC) Awan (Recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest recognition for valour “in the face of the enemy” that was awarded to British Empire personnel)

Subedar Hajji Fateh Khan Awan (Recipient of the Indian Order of Merit and the Italy Star)

Air Marshal Nur Khan (Commander in Chief of the Pakistan Air Force, 1965–69, Governor of West Pakistan, 1969–70, and recipient of the Hilal-i-Jurat, Pakistan’s second highest military award. A close relative of Malik Amir Mohammad Khan)

Lieutenant General Abdul Qayyum (Former chairman of Pakistan Ordnance Factories, and former chairman of Pakistan Steel Mills. Recipient of the Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s second highest civilian award, and the highest medal award that can be given to those who have attained the rank of Lieutenant General

Lieutenant Colonel Qazi Altaf Hussain (Eldest son of Qazi Zafar Hussain. Served in the 11th Prince Albert Victor's Own Cavalry (Frontier Force) Regiment, and former Commandant of the Zhob Militia)

Ahmad Nadeem Qasimi (Renowned author, poet and journalist. Founded, published and edited the prestigious literary journal Funoon, served as Secretary of the Progressive Writers Movement and was a recipient of the President’s Pride of Performance, the Pakistan Academy of Letters Lifetime Achievement award, as well as the Sitara-i-Imtiaz for Literature)

Sultan Bahu (Sufi poet-saint. Founded the Sarwari Qadiri Sufi order)

One of my honorable teachers taught me a lesson once, he said that "Son all my life, every single time anyone asked me "whats your cast" i replied Musalii [Outcast] & He never asked again ". [Because he said in Islam no one has an upper hand for their cast, its all rubbish.] ;)

* I, don't believe in casts but i have Arab roots, Bani Tamim to be specific, my family has a 900 years old recorded family history. [Won't name anything though]. So i belong to what some folks here would call the " initial invaders " who migrated with M.B Kasim.

Closed.

.
Is there a desi site which keeps records of the family roots?

I,don't think so. Some families keep their recorded history safe themselves and pass on to the next generations. Might be a good idea to start a website though :D
