I want to indulge in this thread since firearms and their handling is my passion, but for the enemy state I cannot.

All I will say is Heckler & Koch is best for armed forces.

But hey, you bhartis won't believe me anyways.

Let me put it to you in simpletons terms. Bigger rounds=better.

Indeed, a simpleton's answer. 7.62 has its uses but then so does 5.56 but they both have their drawbacks hence hy the IA and many of the leading armies are looking to procuring a rifle capable of firing the 6.8 which tries to play of the strenghts of both rounds.

The procurement is a competition between various firms, international and Indian. Whhichever rifle wins, will be license produced by OFB.

I know this ^^^
But this competition is sololy due to the reason that F-INSAS is NOT anywhere near completion .
If F-INSAS like you are saying is near completion. MOD would have gone for it and Not for forgine rifle

Tavor came before M4.Uzi was present before thee two.

Have a look at this old news. I think I am right
Moving closer to Israel

The contract for over 3,400 ARs and 175 to 200 sniper rifles was finalised late last year by a "specially empowered" Ministry of Defence (MoD) committee, which visited Tel Aviv to upgrade the capabilities of India's Special Forces. In fact, IMI is yet to conclude a contract to supply Tavor 21 ARs for the Israeli Defence Forces, replacing the M16 ARs they now use.

This article is very interesting

Dude..can u throw some light on why this shiny odd bright orange colour was chosen for Insas furniture ... during discussions with IA personals, everyone shown their disappointment on this colour, It looks childish like a toy. Nepalese royal army instructed OFB to supply Insas with black furniture only not with the orange one. Several times I saw it in bright yellow colour too. Does not full black Insas looks more menacing .....why now it is appearing in full black..

I don't know why they had orange furniture, but it was obviously done on the army's request, because they could have made a black INSAS for them as easily as they did for Nepal.

But that colour is a thing of the past. That was the original 1B INSAS.

The new 1B1 has black furniture, and fixes all the reliability problems seen during Kargil and Nepal. The rifle with the ARDE 40mm UBGL in the video is a 1B1. By next year, all 1Bs will be replaced by 1B1s, and the old ones might be handed down to our police who still use SMLEs. :bounce:

Let me put it to you in simpletons terms. Bigger rounds=better.

Bigger>Smaller? Great, Multi-cal>Bigger. And the IA GSQR asks specifically for the capability to interchange barrels, and fire 5.56 NATO, 7.62 Russian, and the new 6.8 rounds.

No, the F-INSAS rifle is participating in the trials. I've no source for this, only the word of a guy who has previously shown himself to be very trustworthy. I only have his word for it, and while he may be wrong, I'm quite sure he is right.

They won't induct F-INSAS simply for being Indian. They will hold a competition, just like how there was one between INSAS, Steyr AUG, and G41.

That M16 is of the Israeli Military not Indian...I have never seen an Indian soldier with M-16

Now you have. :)

I never knew Nepali maoists work for Indian Army.

It appears on other forums, and they say it's an Indian soldier.

EDIT: I'm studying the image closely, and I think you're right. It's probably not an Indian soldier, the guys on the other forums and blogs must be mistaken.

A question to everyone here.

I remember reading somewhere that the GSQR for new rifle asks for several features such as flip-up iron sights, bull-pup configuration, full auto, burst and semi auto firing modes, a 40mm UBGL, and most of all, ability to fire 5.56 NATO, 7.62x39mm, and 6.8 Grendel. Is there really any rifle that fulfils all of these conditions? Other tha the F-INSAS? 'Cause if there isn't any other, and still we have international vendors, it means that the rifles participating must be ones that the public hasn't yet seen right?

Heard the 6.8 myth. Will believe when I see it, and I mean in the field. Otherwise 50 years of combat experience from soldiers around the world prefer the 7.62 hands down.

I mean this isn't a sport, what are you trying to shoot paper clips at the enemy?

That's why many countries including Pakistan still operate the G3.
