What have you learned on PDF?

Initially I used to brisk through PDF intermittently catching up on strategic affairs, international relations etc until the emergence of a certain thread that had me completely hooked, https://defence.pk/pdf/threads/pakistani-models-and-actresses.374641/ apart from "husn parasti" I have found threads by esteemed blogger @Kaptaan and equally erudite @Tergon18 pertaining to the contrast in history of the Indus and Ganga region most informative, I learned much despite having some popular level knowledge on the subject, a honourable mention should also go to @Mian Babban for his blogs on medieval history of the Ghandaran region and finally whatever the subject one can certainly expect a excellent and thoughtful blog by @Joe Shearer imo probably the finest mind on PDF......NB: Their is no probably about it.Kudos Signalian

Its easy to get distracted from many strategic affairs when you venture into the models thread
I am glad that you are fascinated by history topics otherwise i thought most of the attention is being given to the pretty lasses. I also have seen your posts in weapon related and military strategy threads. PDF actually provides a broad and diverse range of topics which helps in knowledge growth and keeps the brain active. Its also a form of a news channel since all latest relevant news is posted here.

I'll keep short and very generic. PDF has taught me, among other things, the following:

1. People who know a lot tend to talk very little and never quite reveal all their knowledge. People who know very little, go to great lengths cycling through the same limited information.
   
2. Contrary to famous quotes such as; "Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit", "Sarcasm is the refuge of a shallow mind". Sarcasm can be a masterful art and the highest form of adversarial debate, especially when you'd rather not bother discussing anything.
   
3. Debating someone never changes their mind in the short term, at very best it might sow the seeds of alternative thinking, both you and in others, and only later might one come to change their opinion.
4. When arguing for something, it's best to reach out in someway to an opposing opinion and identify common ground otherwise with debate comes the risk of no progress and entrenchment of existing opposing opinions.
5. PDF has actually come to contain a very large amount of good information, it's very useful if you know how to index it.
   
6. I think we all type very proficiently now and PDF has allowed us to do that. We can now also analyse a subject of discussion, think about, and type on the fly very quickly as a result.
7. Pakistanis and Indians aren't all that different, even if some of us would like that not to be the case.
8. Ignorance comes in all forms and being educated doesn't shield you from it much.
9. Over my time at PDF, I've become more optimistic about Pakistan's future. Every once in a while I learn (or relearn) something crazy or absurd about where we're headed and it keeps me more cautiously optimistic.
   
10. Lurking is the key to learning about things before contributing.

A lot of things like

-Learned to listen and respect others opinions.

-Discovered how much i love my country and what problems it is facing atm both externally and internally.

-Learned a lot about how one should do his research on almost every thing instead of blindly trusting what the others are saying.

-Learned how beautiful Pakistan is.

-Made a lot of good friends and made 4 best buddies .

-Interacting with a few members i realized how religious extremism can damage one's brain and how it prevents a that person of thinking logically.

-Learned how much destruction was brought upon our country in 80's and how it ruined a LOT of things.

-Because of PDF i started studying Quran on my own with translations, explanations, tafseers from different sources. Actually used this to my advantage once here to shut one member who was intentionally trying to portray Islam and Quranic ayats in a bad light (NauzbillAh).

-Learned how Liberalism/Secularism is NOT cancer as some people say these things without any logical explanation.

-Learned how to not give sh** to every barking dog. Means i am more tolerant than i was before joining PDF back than i was an emotional guy who used to react on every small thing.

On a serious note

I learned how hatred can at times cloud your sense of judgement and can force you to look at the other in less than a human way

There are others who believe the real answer to terror problem is a serious look at the ideological alternate to the extremism problem which breeds terrorism no matter how much you fight and and how many militants you kill as long as a counter ideology and narrative is absent people will continue to support that cause and join it in numbers

That no matter what we say to Indians on the beef issue we act in a similar fashion on a certain other controversial issue(Hint:Mumtaz Qadri)

There is contradiction between desires of our population and their collective actions

Royal Enfields and KTMs. Presently.

A lot of others in the past.

Not a Harley type of guy. I could see myself riding a Hypermotard Duc though.
