What do you think of cousin marriages ?

i can get scientifically but why morally or socially can you explain pls?
Social taboo depends on the society you live in. What might be fine for a Hindu in Delhi might not be fine for Hindu or Muslim in Kerala.
Morally is even harder to define. Tell me why you guys do not marry your real sister? Coz it is morally or socially wrong, same is case for cousins in some other societies.

Polycystic ovary disease is quiet common among young women here

hmm...seems to have a hereditary factor to it. is this recent or has it been a known issue for decades?

Generally for infertility people look for lead exposure in women and for men it's pesticides, herbicides, industrial chemicals, and heavy metals (yes, we men are more susceptible to fertility problems caused by the environment...however they can show up later in women as birth defects ).

Well let's start from the Islamic angle as so many people have mentioned it, the Prophet(saws) has clearly spoke of marrying outside your tribe and far and wide. Among this own marriages just one of his 13 wives was a cousin, and her name was Zaynab Bint Jahsh(ra). Yes his own daughter Fatima(ra) married Ali(ra), but remember his other daughters all married outside their family clan, two of which were to Usman(ra). The other factor is that the clans at the time of the Prophet(saws) seldom kept up the practice of cousin unions through each generation, rather most did not do it, some did.
Now it is permissible to marry your cousin, but not encouraged. It's also permissible to do many other things but not encouraged, it's not encouraged because it will eventually become bad for you. Now if you look at when Hazart Umar(ra) came across one tribe and he noticed that they were all physically weak, particularly their legs were very thin. He enquired further and found out that they married exclusively within, he then forbade them from doing so, and told them to seek partners from other tribes and nations. So here we have one of the commander of faithful actually forbidding something which is permissible in order to save the health of a tribe.
There have been numerous issues to do with generational cousin unions, medical and social, and people need to understand the problem. If your parents are cousins then you should not be marrying the offspring of their brothers and sisters, who are more than likely cousins as well.
My own family my parents are not related, my grandparents were not related, in fact my grandmother is ethnically different and of solid Central Asian stock. Among my father's brothers and sisters, his sister married outside, both his brothers did as well. Their children, the sister has four children, three daughters married outsiders, her son married a cousin. My youngest uncle, one daughter married a cousin, the three other girls all married outsiders. My brother is married to a girl he met as well, so not in the family. That's all of us. Amongst my extended family, out of 40 marriages, four are to cousins, the rest to outsiders.
As for the wider community I have been to over 30 weddings in the last five years and I have not come across a single cousin union. The practice is fast dying in the UK as young British Pakistani males and females meet each other at universities, work places, social network meets, speed dating and so on.

I love it, biggest bull S .H .I .T, propaganda created to paint negative light on Pakistan, people with brains and eyes are buying this, people outside Pakistan don't marry their cousins, so to speak, yet I see same disabilities as people in Pakistan have all over the world. Shouldn't one ask this question to the genius who started all this and have him explain why that is.

Adam and Eve were the two, very first citizens of this planet, we (humans) now number billions, guess what?

OR

We as humans should be evolving as according to Darwin, we once were monkeys (I want wings) surprisingly millions of years have passed by and we all have the same looks 10 fingers 10 toes :cray:

U need to brush up on ur knowledge of prophets daughters marriages, his eldest daughter was married to her cousin from hazrat khadijas side, khdaijas sisters son , abu al aaas ibn rabi.

Prophets second daughter ruqaiyyah and umm e qulsoom were married to,two brothers utbah and utaibah who were sons of abu lahb, and abu lahb was prophets paternal uncle, its just like the marriage of hazrat fatimah and hazrat ali.

So in essence all of prophets daughters were wedded to first cousin or fathers first cousin.

Also u said "now the marriage between cousins is permissible but not encouraged" seriously is that an attempt on ur part to make cousin marriage look bad? U made it look like divorce, cause neither its encouraged nor discouraged , its all upto ones personal choice.

As of a clan with people born with weak legs. In some clans some genetic disorders do run over generation and normally even from outside those clans hesitate to marry into those familie sso that their kids dont suffer same weaknesses.

Lastly, u said the prophet spoke of marrying far and wide , was that hadees made as an argument against cousin marriage? Can u share those hadees so i can read the context

No need to be defensive about cousin marriages. Avoid it at all costs, don't follow even prophet Muhammad blindly.

Thank you for proving my point, as I said people born outside cousin marriage are also born with disabilities for instance in this instance, mentally disabled is clearly shown. @Kabira

its about money and 'safety' of the girl.. the logic is 'dowry money will be within extended family and the girl will marry somebody that parents have control over'.

Hasburg Dynasty in Spain also followed a similar logic........ I hope these people would read about the fate of the Hasburgs

So what do you think of it ? bad genes?, inbred? disease? lower iq? smaller height? Pakistan should they introduce law and testing.

I vaguely remember reading that iran has introduced a program where you can do a test to find out if you and partner are to have healthy baby or not. I forgotten the name of this program. Anyone that knows could you please help.

From my observation most cousin marriages have children with eczema and slow motor skills. They fall ill easily, and have weak immune system.

All these things are total bull, the only thing cousin marriages bring are an increased rate of birth defects, but even then the rate is still low (goes from 2-3% to 4-6%).

Leading geneticists say it's alright too:

http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2014/02/people-stop-thinking-appropriate-cousins-marry/

People need to stop using cousin marriages as a scapegoat to explain the problems that exist within certain communities.

Absolutely disgusting and deeply against North Indian tradition.

Every civilisation did (and still do) this, including North Indians.

This isnt good for the genetical variaty at all though.

It would also be better for you to marry someone outside of your race, if you're all for genetic variety. Should we now also ban marriages between members of the same race?

I dont what was the meaning of ur post it was mocking cousin marriages or not.

But i had shared an example before and iwill repeat. My uncle was married to his first cousin , he had a child form the marriage, the baby contracted some virsu , nothing related to genetics , baby could not survive and died.
His marriage did not work out due to some personal reasons , he remarried outside the family , his second wife is totally not at all related to us. With her he had a baby born dead, the doctors had told them that had the baby survived or lived he was very likely to be a special child as his utlra sounds had shown some issues in his brain growth.
So its like one never knows.

Western bull shyyte.

I have witnessed a million cousin marriages in Pakistan. Perfectly healthy children.

The same western science says masturbation does not effect psychological and physical health of a person. Wheras, in eastern science it is known to cause vision, hair and memory loss.( I read a paper of an egyptian university doctors where they conducted research. I dont remember the name of the author(s) since they were fancy arab names with lineages etc)

Masturbation is perfectly healthy, so long as you aren't using material that's too heavy and you aren't leaving yourself sore afterwards.

The answer is. No. No. No. Inbreeding reduces IQ. One of the obvious symptoms of low IQ is inability to understand the concept your trying to explain. You will have greater chance in explaining to your pet Alsatian.

It doesn't reduce IQ, all that has been confirmed is that it increases the probability of birth defects.

If it reduced IQ, why does Pakistan have higher IQ than Hindustan?

most of these factors dont apply to pakistanis... how do you explain 30 percent of all genetic abnormalities are pakistani babies?
we are talking about uk not usa...
Genes were not discovered during Darwin(even though he made predictions without the knowledge of it, which is why he is geneous :) )... nor was it studied extensively during Einstein period.. for genetic defect. besides he was from different field, science is so vast, if you are in a different field from your expertise, your views dont matter as much.

That 30% statistic was taken from a community where Pakistanis made up almost 30% of that community FYI.

You are nedlessly spending your esessence.

No it doesn't. Stop promoting pseudo science

We were never 'Monkeys' . Hominids (Humans ,Chimps ,Gorillas) diverged from a common ancestor we shared with 'Monkeys' a really long time ago.
It was previously believed that Chimps were the closest living( extinct members of Homo genus are closer to Humans) Hominid to Humans but recent research suggests that Bonobos are closer to Humans.

no, i met my girl in a bar. wbu ?

By bar do you mean your uncle's cellar?

Why stop at cousin tho, cretins supporting it should start marrying their own sisters.

Stop being stupid, that's apples and oranges. Just because something is revolting to you or me doesn't mean it's inherently bad.

sure.. just saying not 1 man 1 woman... but yeah we did come from small population base.
well, we both agree that there is small risk in 1 generation... but we disagree that it increases much after multiple generation(first causin)? correct?

Over multiple generations it gets bigger, but to get to some monstrous proportion (by monstrous I mean 10% or more), there has to be so much inbreeding it's practically impossible for that circumstance to occur unless other factors are at play. Even if it does occur, the total population doing this would be so small the added birth defects would be miniscule.

Quite a few over here :D.

And Pakistan still manages to have a higher IQ than you guys :D

Well that's what you get when you pass your childhood on 4chan... and it's quite light tbh... PDF language restriction afterall...

4 chan is awesome. Haven't been in a while though.
