Langkawi: Malaysia is too small of a nation to respond to India's boycott of palm oil with trade retaliation, Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Monday.

"We are too small to take retaliatory action. We have to find ways and means to overcome that," Mahathir told reporters in Langkawi, a resort island off the western coast of Malaysia.

Not really. Indonesia was and is more than willing to replace Malaysia as supplier of Palm Oil to India at more or less the same price which Malaysia was supplying the commodity to India. New reports earlier indicated that Modi banned Palm Oil due to environmental concerns. Seems that this was all just bs

Imran Khan has severely severely blundered by hanging Mahatir out to dry while dishing out bustard hunting permits to GCC states.

I'm appalled that IK is not at the forefront of aggressively backing Mahatir politically and economically.

I can only apologise to all Malaysians and hope IK rapidly counters the malaysian Palm oil export shortfall.

Yep as Indonesia knows that India has no other option as only Indonesia has the capacity to replace Malaysia.

There are only two major Palm oil producers in the world, Malaysia and Indonesia, and if you cut yourself from one of them they you will pay a premium to get it from the other.

Only the poor Indian consumer will suffer from Modi's chest-thumping.

No, Indonesia was supplying palm oil at lower rates than Malaysia before India stopped imports from Malaysia. But after India stopped Malaysian imports, Malaysian palm oil prices fell and hence Indonesian palm oil appears expensive. If India starts buying Malaysian palm oil, then Malaysian palm oil will be more expensive than Indonesian palm oil again. So, India is not paying any extra amount for Indonesia.

But after India stopped Malaysian imports, Malaysian palm oil prices fell and hence Indonesian palm oil appears expensive. Malaysian export refined palm oil to India while Indonesia is exporting crude palm oil. Of course refined palm oil is more expensive then crude.

Nope as India MUST pay more to get supply from Indonesia now as they are the only one that can supply them.

Malaysia will just send their palm oil to BD and other countries - they will just buy less from Indonesia and buy from Malaysia instead. End of the day neither Malaysia or Indonesia lose.

Anyway you have common cause with India as they and China are being targeted by Malaysia for persecuting Muslims?

So Malaysia and Turkey have already started with Kashmir issue.
