Just got the reply from a Signals officer regarding the weight of the cable, i had a fair idea of its weight but had to be sure as it was going online, so just to explain the following:
"the men would carry a bundle of cable weighing around 25 kilograms for a couple of kilometers"
400 yards of this cable weighs 50 kilograms. Readers can now calculate the number of trips these men would be making to lay the cable
Impressive as this feat is, it also depends on the time taken to transport the weight. The altitude dictates a slow and steady pace with frequent breaks to prevent pulmonary complication. The entire cable must have been laid over a fair period of time. The shorter the time taken to complete it, the more impressive the physical feat.
