There are some T64 variants outperforming the T72 variants and then there are t72's that outperform T80U series tanks too. Shared by several Soviet and russian forums. Our Type 59 alzarrars are no more Type 59 or even related to other than looks if there is any similarty. The new main gun, Turret , Suspension , transmission, armour (Spaced) and ERA addons with New advanced rounds same as used by any AK or T80 mostly. I am pretty sure AZ is way better than our Type 85 in many standards and equivalent to our top notch tanks. The only problem with design of this tank is armour that is although improved with spaced armour and era addons it will probably be effective against HEAT round or HE rounds if any but not as much to AP rounds of modern era maybe earlier 90's rounds that are still in service may not penetrate. But Here in PDF word PENETRATE is used as if it means death to tank. Almost all tanks are penetrated by each round question is how much to knockout a tank. By my theory AZ is more than 450mm equivalent in front and in sides around 200mm now when people say that a specific AP round can penetrated around 600mm but that is true only in perfect world that is 100% angle that is round face hits straight to armor. which is the rarest of all. With gravity, Temperature even AP performance is degraded with addition to angle of incidence. So There maybe chances for AZ too to survive first hit and so is for enemy. The point is this tank can serve role as light weight heavily equipped tank. Light being the light armor. specially in urban areas or closed quarters where a target lock is easier. If im not wrong this tank also fires atgm right ?

The only problem with PA armor is that non is invincible while I think Arjun latest variant might even be with addition of radar and special EW suites that it carry to even the choppers in many scenarios and its Heavy weight definitely adds to Superior armor to even T80 or AK. I think it will have highest chances of surviving armor skirmish. The Pakistani tanks will have to probably come very close under 400 meters or side to take kill shots otherwise I think the tank frontal armor in long ranges might even be hurdle.

I am shocked that people are so chillingly mentioning DU rounds that if they are just tank killers. The DU round uses specialized reduced uranium anti tank round whose effect if not on tank will definitely do to environment it is as lethal as any chemical weapon attack to natural beings. If used against tanks in all scenarios might even create same effect as small nuke radiation on the battleground for years might effect the living.

I will be more impressed when non DU APFSDS rounds that are heavy penetrators if not HEAT FS of great power be used before thinking of DU rounds.

Any tank (be its T-59 II or AK) that shows up on battlefield makes an instant impact on the friendly as well as enemy forces. a tank on the battlefield gives a 1000% morale boost to own infantry.
Then things start happening:
The sound of tracks, smoke of engine, smell of fuel, dust all around, constant wireless communication between infantry commander and troop leader of tanks.
If you see one tank, be sure there will be 3 more lurking around, totalling 4. Own infantry knows that their mission success rate has increased so they will do everything to protect these tanks. enemy infantry knows that taking out these tanks is priority now. Tanks themselves present a huge target opportunity. However, taking out any tank is never easy.

Any infantry AT/ ATGM team becomes priority target for own infantry. If the first ATGM is fired from enemy position, its location is noted and retaliationary fire is directed towards it. If direct fire isnt an option, mortar fire is directed otherwise artillery bombardment is required to suppress enemy till own forces make contact with enemy and come very close to enemy positions giving enemy less reaction time to assess the attacking force and its direction of assault.

Now before all this happens. an intel is provided on enemy location: its strength, bunkers, weapons at disposal to assess capabilities, supply routes incase reinforcements make their way to it, which means also locations of nearby garrison or deployments, artillery support in the area.

In case of defense of an area from enemy, the infantry digs in and in rare cases sometimes the tanks dig in too although they can reverse and get out of pit and change positions. Digging in has its advantages and disadvantages. In most cases, tanks are used as flanking force to counter the attacking enemy and its tanks.

I have explained all this to you to convey a simple point that unlike shown in movies/games, there are many factors contributing in the use of tanks and taking out tanks. 1 tank vs 1 tank is extremely rare.
Distance, ammunition used, infantry support, artillery support, terrain, crew fitness/fatigue, commander planning, mission priority all play their factors.

There are a lot of obstacles, mines, trenches, water works, hills, natural concealments, lots of infantry action in the areas that AZ will operate, punjab and southern part of kashmir.
AZ 125mm gun is suitable for taking out T-72/T90/Arjun. Infact T-59 II 105mm can also do that and T-59 II will also be used in the same terrain, although its role is a little different, infantry support.

The usage of AZ can be predicted from its primary user, 6th Armoured division based in Gujranwala. Its the main strike force of the northern force of PA. its poised to penetrate towards Jammu in North, Gurdaspur/Pathankot area in North east, Amritsar in East, till Bhatinda in South East.

In a defensive manner, it can be used anywhere in Pakistan. 6th AD has the support of 17th Infantry Div for infantry support. The lesson learnt from 1965 war was that tanks will not battle without infantry support. 6th AD has no infantry units.

Now, before the war begins, the deployment areas of AZ has been thoroughly exercised by PA. The intel on the type of tanks used by IA in this area is also there. What kind of reinforcements of tanks and from which garrison/cantt of IA can reach the operations(ops) area is also in consideration and in how much time.

Its obvious that the terrain in which AZ vs any IA tank will take place may have maximum 1500m Line of sight (LOS) in most cases, rare cases are always there. The 125mm is extremely effective, in or under this range. However with so much infantry around PA and IA forces, a tank's main enemy maybe ATGM rather than enemy tank.

99% of armoured warfare is driving the tank: getting the tank to the area where its required, moving the tank around throughout battle, getting the tank back to own lines after combat for re-arming and refuelling as well as repairs.
1% of armoured warfare is targeting/firing etc.

In the end its upto the training standard of tank crew and both PA/IA have excellent training methods.

Probably half of T-59 numbers, around 600.
This number means roughly 13 regiments out of which 5 regiments are in 6th AD. Out of the rest of 8 regiments, i think it will be 2 each for atleast 4 independent armoured brigades in the Northern area like 8th IAB of X Corps, 3rd IAB of IV Corps, 2nd IAB of XXX Corps, IAB of IX corps (to be sent as reserve on eastern sector in case of war from Nowshera)

The reason could be that rest of 600 T-59 are already upgraded to T-59 II standard. Cost factor for upgradation from T-59 to AZ is also there.

when T-59 II/T-69 are put to storage, the AK series will make up for the numbers.

Till enough numbers of AK are in service to be handed over to 6th AD and other IAB formations of the North.

Most probably not. Cost factor and also T-59 II is a formidable tank still and used as infantry support in Infantry divisions along with T-69

With changing times & battlefield technology change it was thought that AKs need to be upgraded so production was stopped at 300 or so and work on upgraded variant or a new platform was initiated, which is why we saw the AK-1 being tested and the the T-84 Oplot & VT-4 tanks getting tested in Pakistan.

If we upgrade lot of AZs, then at the end we will be left with lot of them and it will be another issue.

No hunter killer capability. Can fire all kind of rounds even the DU rounds.

Actually 2014 MODP report states production of 420 AKs with 50 on order .. Meanwhile HIT site is already marketing the upgraded AK-I which I presume was inducted a couple of years back...

Recently new firing systems were purchased for AZ which might have given them hunter killer ability. The only way to have superiority in the armour battlefield is to induct Uranium depleted shells.

AZ had been using Thetis FCS for years now.

. .
Against T-72s of IA till they are not upgraded, AZ is superior especially due to its night fighting capability.
More than half of T 72s are already been upgraded to CIA standard.By 2012 70 % of total tank had Night Fighting capabilities.

http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities...anks-improved-night-vision/article6911932.ece

The ERA is DRDO MK 1 based on k 5 now being replaced by MK 2 superior to K 5.Mk 1 was tested to reduce the impact of Milan Shaped charged ATGM by 70 %

, AZ is superior especially due to its night fighting capability.
At the end of the day AZ is a modified Type 59/T 54/55 any upgrade won't change it's basic properties.

Although this discussion may not lead anywhere but your statement means you are clueless about tanks

Basic properties of any Tank.
1. Fire power (AZ firepower upgraded from 100mm to 125mm)
2. Mobility (engine upgraded changing bhp from 520 to 730)
3. Armor ( composite, ERA, mine resistant base)

There are 50+ modifications.

I suggest you take your crap somewhere else now.
