Wiki reporting numbers of 150......When did this happen???

. . .
We got so busy with JF 17 that we forgot that Al khalid bhi hai.......:D

.
Dear All,
please do not be oveer excited. it is the export contract of MBT-2000 and Pakistan is no where in the equation. it is a solely China-Morocco deal and have nothing to do with PA Al-Khalid Program.

regards!

i still remeber same sort of excitment prevailed when we hearedabout Peru going for this tank.

later on it was made clear that Pakistan have no part to play in this deal.

what we require to do it to market it on our own. it is not a joint venture like F where who ever sales the equipment both nation get the royality.

i hope you guy get the point.

regards!

for those who are new to the VT1A/MBT 2000:

After the latest MBT-2000 tank for Pakistan, another new armor combat vehicle, called-as VT1A main battle tank, now has been opened by one Chinese magazine “Ordnance Knowledge”, which has been known as a state-run magazine under NORINCO Group.

The magazine announced that VT1A tank can be exported to foreign countries and provides some specifications:

Full Weight: 49 tons
Height: 2.4 meters (up to turret top)
Width: 3.5 meters
Length: 10.33 meters (gun forward)
Crew number: 3 (with autoloader)

Power: 1200 hp water-cooled turbocharged diesel engine
Power-weight ratio: 24 hp/ton
Maximum highway speed: 69 km/h
Max operational range: 450 km
Armament: 125 mm smoothbore gun, 7.62 parallel machine guns, 12.7 antiaircraft machine gun
Maintainability: integrated power system
Fire Control System: scan-targeting type.
Protection: Main armor + modular composite reactive armor

So, the next is the question why this VT1A tank looks so similar to Pakistan Al-Khalid MBT?

An evolution of Chinese and Soviet tanks, the Al-Khalid’s final tank design resulting from a decade of co-operative development was designated Type 90-IIM. Chinese company Norinco showed the new Type 90-IIM during the March 2001 Abu Dhabi Defense Expo, under the export name MBT 2000. The version powered by the Ukrainian engine, intended for domestic production in Pakistan, was named Al-Khalid. For this achievement, Pakistan spent more than US$20 million over ten years on the co-development of a model suitable for their needs and on creating a capability to manufacture it locally.

note that the tank in last picture is the Al-Khalid

I don't think PA is even interested in selling MBT Al-Khalid, because we still don't have firm numbers in service our selves.

I mean, we still have a lot of old tanks to replace with Al-Khalid and Zarrar.

.
as mentioned above there are many differences between AK and the MBT-2000. sure the hull and profile looks the same but PA has made many 'changes' in the various systems for the AK. its a formidable tank!!!

that is a valid point,
for time being the idea for PA seem to be sticking to mass production of Al-Khalid to induct them in large numbers.
the production work at HIT is going on.

once the requirment is met, then PA plans to move to Al-Khalid II production. (it is already reported to be under development). this Al-Khalid II induction will see the Al-Zarar and other old types being gradually phased out. this is the idea and it seems to be a bright one :pakistan:

currently HIT is working on Al-Khalid I, which is an upgraded/modified version of original Al-Khalid. the capacity of tank is increased and now it handles more ammunition and better Air-conditioning system. it is not to be confused with under development Al-Khalid II that will be hugely modified but purposed more powerfull engine, redesigned turret, further improved fire control system, better jammer and protection suite etc

Al-Khalid I – Upgraded variant in testing as of April 2009. Ammunition capacity increased to 49 125 mm rounds, 1,500 12.7 mm rounds and 7,100 7.62 mm rounds.[1] Incorporates modifications made to the fire-control system, sensors, IBMS, side-skirts, track pads, auto-loader (rate of fire increased to 9 rounds per minute), Ukrainian Varta electro-optical jammer (disrupts laser rangefinders, laser designators and anti-tank guided missile tracking systems), Sagem third-generation thermal imagers and improved air conditioning system

our requirement is 1,200 AK's to replace all legacy tanks in our inventory.

only 2 types will remain in service AK1/AK2 and the T-80UD.
