What's new

PA's New Haider MBT is the T99A- Type 99 MBT

I think the honest answer is there is no Haider tank or whatever. HIT has not been able to improve upon Al-Khalid enough even after 20 years that it is now buying tanks off shelf again. Only way we will see Haider is if they rename the VT-4 that and call it a day

UNless VT4 is customized enough for PA. once that is done we will see birth of Al Haider with HIT logo.

Haider was always meant to be off-the-shelf.

Correct. And I hardly expect Pakistan army to operate a tank called "VT-4" in its service. That may be an export designation by a chinese manufacturer but it won't be the name that PA will use. However, at the moment we don't know what PA will choose to call it and whether it will be Haidar/Alhaidar or something else.

At the moment remember, there is still no OFFICIAL confirmation that we have even bought this tank so the question of a name does not arise. There may be confirmation by some posters on this forum no matter how relaible they are but still nothing OFFICIAL.

Usually PA does not use local names for any thing which is off the shelf purchase. We either use local names for products with TOT or upgrade weapons.
So keeping it in mind it might be name for upgrade T 80 UD.

Al-Khalid has been continuously improving and the AK-II will be a game changer as far as locally produced Tanks are concerned. The AIM and Concept of Procuring an Off the Shelf Tank was:
1. Numbers Game: As per AFDP-2030, Keeping in view the production rate of Local Machines there was a calculated deficiency of 300-500 MBTs which was decided to be catered to in the end by going for an Off the Shelf Purchase keeping in view the changing Geo Political Realties. Lack of ToT allows the OEM complete independence to meet the timeline deadline set by PA. It saves a lot of Hassle.
2. Availability of Finance: After the Project was conceived, The Requisite Capital needed was shifted from an illogical tender(which was cancelled) to this one (How,from where...Won’t be answered). No new capital sanctioned from GOP. Adjustment done by previous Govt.
3. Inclusion & Absorption of New Technology: VT-4 brings about a lot of revolutionary technologies on the table which will Allow PA to shift into the new domain of Mechanised Warfare.
4. Advantageous Geo-Political Situation:
While the Political and Military Situations keep on developing from the Eastern BORDER but overall strategic picture painted a reasonable picture for PA to advance with the deal as a lot of Foreign OEMs had shown a keen interest in the Tender: South Korean, Russians, Ukrainians, Polish, Chinese which allowed PA to shift away from one supplier and have a deep insight on all the major MBTs in production and a fair Comparison. This opportunity allowed PA to evaluate, evolve and grasp the standards set by different OEMs in designing a new MBT.
5. Time: Induction of VT-4 MBT will allow PA to wisely choose the sub-systems of AK-II without the Rush to put it into production. A cushion provided by the new purchase.

China May Deliver 300 of Type 99 Main Battle Tank to Pakistan

According to reports, china may deliver a total of 300 of Type 99 Main Battle Tank to Pakistan. Pakistan is already testing the Type 99 Main Battle Tank given the unsatisfactory performance of the VT-4 and Oplot-M. VT-4 is the export variant of the MBT-3000, while the Oplot-M is a Ukranian Tank. Pakistan is looking to upgrade its inventory of tanks in order to satisfy the needs of the armed forces from 2017 to 2025. After the successful testing of Type 99 Main Battle Tank, it will be decided which tanks will to acquire.

Defense experts have welcomed this new development with open arms. The Type 99 Main Battle Tank would serve as a cheap and ideal replacement for Pakistan Army’s fleets of T80UD, Al-Zarrar, Type 85, Type 69, and Type 59 MBTs. The fleets under Pakistan Army as of right now are quite old and can’t possibly create with a modern line of tanks in huge numbers. Type 99 Main Battle Tank was fielded by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. It is a third-generation tank and a Chinese variant of the Russia T-72 MBT. Type 99 Main Battle Tank incorporates the autoloader, hull, the main gun and armor from the T-72 Russian MBT. If the deal between Pakistan and China on this front goes through, the Type 99 Main Battle Tank should also serve as an ideal opponent to the Indian T-90MS.

Pakistan is doing exceptionally well at the moment in carving out important deals on two crucial fronts; infrastructure and defense. China has been a great benefactor of Pakistan and hopefully will remain so in the years to come. With China having invested billions of dollar in Pakistan, even more so recently in the form of China-Pak Economic Corridor, more such deals, even powerful, could come through in the future. As for the infrastructure, the government is bringing in foreign investments not short of billions of dollars to finance power generation projects in Pakistan. With Operation Zarb-e-Azb, Pakistan is at a constant battle with terrorists and quite successfully. If things keep heading the way they are, Pakistan has a bright future ahead.

You have overestimate the abilities of Pakistan industries. It need continue investment in industries and nurturing of talent that require a very stable growth of economy and necessary fund. This is a harsh world. No money no talk.

Even India having a bigger economy now still need to depend on T-90 tank as real main battle thank rather than their so called indigenous Arjun.
