Violence in Karachi

Its all a power game in Karachi, just like underworld we have three dons
1) PPP (which is serving as a hidden hand fueling the conflict between ANP and MQM for its own interests)
2) ANP (which is a rising power in Karachi and unfortunately also involved in activities of Land Grabbing and Bhatta)
3) MQM (which has its backbone in Karachi, threatened by ANP and PPP)
so they are all involved in this to make their cards strong on the table.

But most importantly who suffer?
1) Poor Pukhtoon stall sellers
2) Poor Urdu Speaking laborers
3) Ordinary persons like me who do official duties or business.

Yes there is a helpless victim side and that is Pukhtun Pakistanis

PPP kills MQM people. MQM Kills PPP people. In between both are allies at official level therefor MQM make it sound like MQM-ANP tussle and PPP does the same.

And i you go back its the Pukhtun Pakistanis are are being killed in large numbers by these criminal thugs of MQM.

Still ANP had always refrained from messing up the things. Just look at this violence linked to election today. ANP did not take part in election knowing well that MQM terrorists will kill Pukhtun Pakistanis for voting against them.

Indeed but political crimes have a long history

I haven't read about any PPP workers being killed. Besides hypothesizing that PPP is a "hidden hand" and fueling the crisis, there is little to suggest that there is an on-ground PPP-MQM tussle.

28 dead in wave of violence in Karachi

KARACHI -- Gunmen have killed at least 28 people in Karachi, raising ethnic, political and sectarian tensions in Pakistan's largest city as voters cast ballots on Sunday for a replacement for a provincial lawmaker murdered in August.

Police said they were still investigating the motives behind the shootings, but many so-called “target killings” in Karachi in the past have been linked to gangs controlled by various groups including the city's two main political parties, the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) and the Awami National Party (ANP), the Pakistani media has reported.

“We cannot say whether all the killings were politically motivated or some gangs were involved because the killings took place in different parts of the city and were not confined to the area where the elections were being held,” Karachi police Chief Fayyza Leghari said.

Taking note of the recent target killings, Interior Minister Rehman Malik has directed DG Rangers to improve security. He has ordered the rangers to patrol sensitive areas and take action without any discrimination. He has also appealed to political leaders to be patient and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.

In August, a lawmaker of Karachi's dominant MQM was killed by gunmen, sparking violence which killed 100 people in a week.

MQM's rival, the ethnic Pashtun-based ANP, boycotted the by-election after complaining that the MQM would rig the poll, Reuters reported.

Aside from trying to contain violence in Karachi, the government faces the task of rebuilding areas devastated by summer floods which inflicted $9.7 billion in damage and will strain the weak economy for several years.

The MQM accused the ANP of carrying out the killings, an allegation it denied.

“Soon after announcing its boycott of the by-election, ANP's terrorists began killing innocent citizens in a bid to sabotage the election process,” the party said in a statement.

The party said 25 people, including MQM workers, were killed. Karachi often shuts down for brief periods after political killings, as well major bombings police usually blame on militant groups.

Stock market investors keep a wary eye on tension in Karachi, home to Pakistan's main port, stock exchange and central bank and the main gateway for Western military supplies bound for neighboring land-locked Afghanistan.

The city has a long history of ethnic, religious and sectarian violence. But hundreds of targeted killings this year have raised concerns that violence would escalate and create a new crisis for the U.S.-backed federal government.

Provincial health minister Mohammad Saghir said gunmen attacked people belonging to ethnic and political groups to “ruin the peace of this city.” About 40 people were wounded, he said.

The MQM's leadership was weighing all options in response to the violence, including withdrawing from the provincial coalition government led by the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) of President Asif Ali Zardari, a source said.

It has made similar threats in the past.

The party is allied with the PPP at the federal level.

The MQM represents the Mohajirs, descendants of Urdu-speakers who migrated from India after the creation of Pakistan in 1947.

Political killings. Today there were bypolls on a seat. and ahead of the polls a ruling party there even lifted ban on double riding on bike which is one of the lethal ways of spraying bullets.

one political party boycotted the elections whereas PPP and MQM were contesting

PPP didn't even nominated a candidate
There was only Mqm's candidate vs Anp and three independent candidates

Two ruling political parties ..both part of the same govt

One representing Mohajirs, other representing Pashtuns..involved in killing of pashtun migrants and Mohajir politicians respectively ..I think it is ethnic violence bordering on ethnic cleansing, though difference is both the sides are taking shots..there is no helpless victim side.(that is if we ignore the actual victims)

MQM was a political party started by Muhajir students But they have changed their name years ago now they have people of all the ethnic groups they do not represent the muhajir race but you can say that they are the representatives of people of Karachi because they are always elected from almost every neighborhood of Karachi they get a lot of votes here

Anp does not represent Pashtuns either Religious parties usually win from pashtun dominated areas. The only reason Anp won 2 seats in sindh assembly was because Jamat e islami bycotted the general elections

There is no ethnic cleansing going on in Karachi this isnt the 90's
Anp is just trying to get control of Karachi they are trying their best to make people believe that pashtuns are getting targeted if you listen to their press conferences they never say that people of their party were shot dead they always say that pashtuns were shot dead

I think now its to make a change in gun law.You just cant hand over the gun without license. Its sad to know that in pakistan many men think it is their jewelery and this gun culture carries on with kids holding them too.
If this thing isnt stopped, then that day wont be far, when one 12 year kid kills another 15 year kid over street fight in every single city on every single day.

Change the gun law...Thats all i hope..But But Zardari and pathans:disagree::disagree:

the anp thugs are capturing various areas, esp the rabia city in gulistan e jauhar and al asif square, and the sohraab goth..

they are trying to capture areas to establish their dhundagardi there, the city is divided there because of them..

U know nothing about karachi but still u post as u know every thing, u post as u know more then those people who are living in karachi for decades.

This is happening in karachi.

MQM wants monopoly over an entire city. It is having trouble doing so.

How? PS-94 is pashtun majority area, and yesterday they won from there, and in last elections in 2008, MQM got 80,000 votes and ANP got only 2000.

It's a professional blackmailing party and opposing it's monopoly and trying to vie for influence are the ANP and PPP. They have their own areas in the city that the MQM cannot penetrate politically.

U keep posting non-authentic and negative stuff like this again and again but when some one posts authentic thing abt issues u start bitching, i mean what is the prob with u? Why u want all people to have mind like u?

The least common denominator is ethnic cleansing motivated primarily by desire to maintain influence and control over various parts of the city. It's very common and easy to label it as political turf, which is essentially not wrong but mislabeling the issue and failing to understand the problem. Gang affiliations with parties are fleeting and only based on mutual benefit.

And before anyone throws the need-to-control-gangs-through-force card, we saw what happened in the '90s.

Yup we know what was happened in 90s and now the people responsible of operation against MQM, doesnt have ball to say on TV that they did operation, even takla nawaz sharif says he didnt know anything(i mean wasnt he PM of pakistan?) and those people who were involved in operation has said that Jinnahpur conspiracy was fake.

And people of karachi are more informed than u about what happened in karachi in 90s and what is happening today, thats why 80% votes MQM, and they always keep voting for MQM, bcoz they know what happened, Thats why today Nawaz Sharif even dont start political campaign here, and other parties dont nominate their candidates, and some boycott the elections and runs away from defeat.:cheesy:

Plz u should not talk like this, people of karachi are well aware of situation, they know situation of karachi better then u, thats why they will keep voting for MQM, u keep ur conspiracy theories to u.:coffee:

There is a problem with blindly following and worshiping a person, a party, an institute and anything. Clearly visible in some member's posts.

not only pukhtun are being killed in karachi ,and ANP is the real cause of target killings , u dont live in karachi we live and we know that what is happening here, i dont say that MQM is a "farishta jamat " they are also responsible for these killings and pukhtuns of karachi also vote MQM due to their development in karachi in past .
