Vietnamese communists call for end to communism

I worked as computer engineer for the German stock exchange. it has an office in the windy city, the sears tower. Windy because the weather is bit tough. It is very cold in winter, hot in summer, and very windy that even the sears tower, the most highest in the city, swings left and right by bad weather. very scareful. the Germans founded the office there, because Chicago is home to two major stock exchanges: Chicago Board of Trade cbot and Chicago Mercantile Exchange cme.

actually I like Chicago. the city is very nice, especially in summer. as you say, too, it has beautiful buildings, parks, museums, rivers, shoppings, and many other places. But you should avoid going out in the dark and to the ghettos.

whenever I got a free time, I usually went to the small Vietnamese community in Chicago, the Argyle street and ordered my favorite dish: Pho :-) the VN corner is not too nice if compared to other Vietnamtowns such as in San Jose or Westminster. But that is better than nothing if you want to eat Vietnamese foods.

What a small world, indeed. I've been many times to the Vietnamese community by argyle st and north broadway. I went there with some friends / colleagues. There is a Vietnamese resto there that i like, it is called Pho Tank Noodles.

There is also a good Chinese restaurant close by, it is called Sun Wa. They serve good Peking Duck, lol.

it is Viet community or Chinese ?
I say so many Chinese character.
actually both, Viet and Chinese. you see both Vietnamese and Chinese shops and restaurants as well.
best Chinese food is roasted Beijing duck. a wonderful dish.

Not to quibble, but as an interesting bit of trivia, that's not why it's called the Windy City. I learned this the hard way when I embarrassed myself on my first visit to Chicago all those years ago.

Origin of Chicago's "Windy City" nickname - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In short, it refers to substance-less arrogance, similar to saying that someone is full of hot air. It was a term of derision.
take it easy. the nick name is not so bad.
windy as the city is close to the lake.

my friend the world is small indeed :-)
there are many Pho restaurants side by side, with slighty different tastes.

I just came back from US 1 month ago.
The news was that a Chinese-American high school boy got shot by his school friend.
Parent has only one child because China 1 child policy.
This, may or may not be a race discrimination crime, but it is definitely a school shooting crime.

How sad for parents.
in America, it is not unusual that you got shot when you live in a ghetto or going out to a wrong place at a wrong time.
Long live the American way of life!

in Vietnam who interested about politic could know that the group of old communist figure and war veterans addressed the letter to party and request that VCP could change his ideology "Marxism-Leninism". It is boring in Vietnam if some one speak about communism now. Stalin model is dead with collapsing of Soviet Union. In fact no communism state dose existed in the world.

The change of name of VCP was debated recently in Media too. The "labor Party" is mostly accepted by majority of people in Vietnam.

Is the noodle posted by @Nihonjin1051 authentic Viet noodle ?

Looks like quite different with Viet Noodle in LA and Phx. No basil in the bowl.

yes, you are right. it is. the one ingredient is missing. to a bowl of pho belong plates of herbs and other things.
there are 3 basic different meat: pig, chicken or beef.

I find the best Pho is served in San Jose.

Finally the Vietnamese sees reason & start to abandon silly notion such as "Socialism."

Time to let the Yellow flag unfurl once again & replace that disrespectful red flag.

Really? What good will changing the name do if the party does not change the way it works? It's like new bottle but old wine again. Either ways as long as VCP does not screw up our economy any further, I am fine with whatever it's called.

@Edison : that could be real. But the list doesn't include important person.
I myself expect innovation in the Party, but it's unlikely happening today.

How about NO?

Abandoning communism now will only lead to chaos in VN, and it will take decades to recover, if VN hasn't become the puppet of other power yet. So for reviving a dead govt some people are ready to sell out their countries, sell out the effort of 80 millions compatriots over half a century. Those who abandon VN when she needed them the most should not allow to discuss the future of the nation (I mean those VNese who fled to US and still embrace the dream of the yellow strips flag flying over VN).

USA tried to give vietnam democracy in the 60s-70s but they refuse and want communism instead. Now that they want democracy, USA might come back into the region.

Largest and oldest democracy should help Vietnamese if that's what they want.

How about YES!

Communist Vietnam is what got the country below that of Philippines. If Vietnam won't change its backward ways the rest of ASEAN will leave Vietnam in the dust. Heck, there's even talk that Brunei should take Vietnam place in the ASEAN Major 6.
