USA wants defence agreement with Bangladesh

.
There are certain norms and rules in the international relations among the countries which must be followed. Was it not logical for BD to ask a million ton of FREE rice from Fidel Castro's Cuba instead of begging it from the USA? You cannot get both ways.

What bargain chip when Cuba cannot provide but the USA can. The Socialist Tajuddin preferred Cuba over the USA and caused hunger and death. He should have used his own bargaining chip and ask Cuba to donate rice. We cannot blame the USA for the misconduct by Tajuddin.
And allowing people to starve is one of these rules? Get out of here. We can absolutely blame the USA for these actions as they denied aid in the first place. We weren't trading military information or anything else. It was jute. Quick licking America's boot for this action, it's a harmful act period.

Yes, BD should agree as long as it does not compromise BD sovereignty too much.

I am thinking along the lines of buying stuff like transports, helicopters, sharing intel and maybe allowing US ships to dock in BD ports(as long as they are not engaged in a war at the time).

Anything for US clearance to buy Gripen E!

Yes. But, we shouldn't blame them. That how realpolitik works...
No we certainly shouldn't blame them for all of it, as the ruling government undeniably played a role. But we should still acknowledge that it happened. If you want to adopt this realpolitik view over humanitarian/ethical view than you can go as far as to justify India's increase control over Kashmir because it gives them better security and defence against Pakistan. I'm not saying we should see US as enemy no, but we should acknowledge that event as harmful. It's in the past we need to accept it while at the same time move on for stronger relations.

I welcome you Bangladeshis.
Welcome them to what? coalition of the willing against super power China? Sorry, but the timing and context makes me think its mainly about encircling China.

Hope you get some of the good stuff.
Hmmm...."good" is relative.

USA has been helping and feeding us since Pakistan time without ever demanding anything from a poor BD land. Ask your parents where from the powdered milk, white Markin Kapra, rice and medicines came when they were students in the Primary. Without USAID many BD people then would have gone hungry and naked.
THen i guess now is the time to payback the good "deed" with helping US with its containment of China?

Btw, thanks for this info, didnt know this until now.

We can't bite the hand that feeds us. USA helped us a lot through USAID. That why we gained fast HDI growth and surely overtake india on HDI ranking in couple of years.

We cant grow without US and Western Europeans...

Whatever way you hate, America is the only source of security for BD in the present context similar as it was the source of food for many decades in Pakistan time. But, why do not you blame the BD political leadership for the failure of diplomacy that led to starvation? Why America or any other country should be held responsible for a man-made crisis in another country?
