I personally believe the US would never deliver them (requests have been made but turned down) unless Egypt can pressure them into doing it somehow. The IAF maintains it superiority because of the F-15's and not the lack of AIM-120 in Egypt's arsenal. There were some rumors that Egypt has acquired Chinese BVR missiles to be placed on F-16s after (rumored) TAI help in nationalising the source codes. That may be hogwash then again with the Egyptian Armed Forces you can always expect the unexpected. The AIM-7 is a BVR missile (plus we have BVR missiles on the Mirages).

As nice as the sentiment is, the fact is it would never happen nor will the Egyptian military allow it to happen unless Saudi was used as a proxy for a deal.

Russians are the basest beings in such things, when they feel that you are in desperate need of them they will just use you. Egypt had a catastrophic experience with them in this regard as well as Iraq, Syria, Libya and to a less degree Algeria. Russians used to sell "export versions" of their arms unlike the west and even blackmailed them in several cases when they were in great need of then until Egypt kicked them out and was forced to turn to the West, not mention that Russian arms are downgraded to the Western's.

Don't you think that the US does the same? That's the only country who sells you the hardware and keeps the operating keys. At least Russians do not interfere in the after use.

Russian arms are performant in the hand of train soldier. You take the Egyptians and the Lybian as exemple, neither country had an army. The Iraki one was destroyed not because of the use of Russian equipment but by Saddam, his two sons and sons in law.
For Algeria's example, we get the equivalent if not the best that the Russian has at her disposal...We are to Russia what Israel is to US, in arms concerns.

The only comparisons are against the US which uses AWACS & electronic warfare blinding enemies, SU 35 is good.
