US set to bag $5bn defence deals

We only started a new strategic chapter with the US not so long ago, remember they even have given us some supercomputers but when we conducted the N test it again changed our ties. However with US now focusing more on the Asia-pacific region it is in their interest to further ties with India and down the road in 5-10 years I can see some sort of joint production as it will save cost on both sides.

Their military industry will be in a loss in that scenario

Thats why they will never accept this request,,,,,its wishful thinking

The things will start with the tot

They recently denied tot for javelin atgm and u are expecting jv??
We have nothing to contribute in a JV....................tell me one area where we have more expertise than them??

answer--------none

There is no such thing as total tech transfer it is just a term thrown about but means very little, the issue of Javelin is a bit complex one must understand it is probably the best system out there in it's field so they want to guard it which is understandable.

It is not about having more expertise, the issue is cost cutting and exporting to 3rd parties so both sides can benefit. After all to win our business there must be something in it for us also right?

U can give a million reasons but it won't happen.................never

I never thought a deal like the 123 agreement would take place in such a short time but when all said and done business is business and they know it and so do we.

great news. it means quick delivery of arms to india. i wish russia learn frm usa that how they deliever arms on time.

One thing you gotta give to the US defense deals..High quality, Quick delivery schedule and adherence to the same. The only thing that worries me is the stupid foreign policy of USA that might create logistical issues on maintenance sometime in future if Indian foreign policy comes at loggerheads with that of USA

The main reason for this is the products supplied by US already has it's supply chain running. Israelis too could do it earlier. But when it came to ordering new platforms that were under development the whole story changed. The Barak-8 is a prime example of it. When it comes to Russians most of the weapons that we order from them are custom built for us and the time taken for evaluating the new instruments on the platform takes a hell a lot of time because of optimization to the Indian conditions.

This can be resolved if India decide to join the US camp.

If India buys Javelin, then India gets the best system out there. As I mentioned before, military procurement should be separate from domestic technology development.

Look around your house or office and figure out how many items there have been invented by Americans....they invented it and we make and use them now....TOT has limitations and one needs to understand why.

What should they do??

Are we totally buying from them?

We have a right to buy from anywhere and they have a right to sell anyone

If we keep on pursuing this policy they will supply more to china

they already done that. Name a single item they didn't give! They allowed to make clones in diff types also!
Look at what chinese had in TAR. All of them contain one way or other contain Russian genes!

Its there right no doubt but to sell adversaries sharing border looks odd one out

Russia is friendly to China because of their partnership against the US. Anything that they sell to China, they can guarantee that it would never go to American hands. Can they have the same trust with India once India move closer to Russia. Also, given Russia's traditional close relationship with the India, can US trust India.

India really need to clarify where is stands between the US/western camp vs Russia/China axis.

India doesn't want to be part of any camp/axis. We just want best from both the worlds.

I understand that large deals such as this must be transparent and done in the correct way but sometimes it takes so long to sign that we always end up paying more for it compared to the original price quoted.
Yeh sab hawa mein hai! All gas! For example, we've been hearing about the howitzer deal since when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth! We're still waiting. How long more, no one has a clue.

So don't pop the champagne just yet. There are miles to go before gizmos start rolling in.
