US senator slams China for undermining Vietnamese sovereignty

And the knowledge of history here is so bad one can only wonder if you even know what the word 'history' mean.

The US dropped a couple of nuclear bombs on Japan and we have been defending Japanese sovereignty ever since. The US and allies chopped up Germany and we also have been defending Germany's sovereignty ever since.

One should first ask if Japanese have any sovereignty in the first place? I argue that Japanese have no sovereignty because they are not independent. American is defending American interest in Japan, not Japanese sovereignty because Japan can't do what she wishes and need to ask for American permission.

Law of the Sea Treaty is DOA (dead on arrival). Republican Boehner will see to it.

The U.S. has not and will not ratify the Law of the Sea Treaty, because it wants to move its aircraft carriers wherever it feels like.

This attitude isn't going to change. The Law of the Sea Treaty has never come close to passing the U.S. Congress and it most certainly won't receive the assent of the Republican-controlled House.

House Speaker John Boehner will just laugh and swat down the goofy Law of the Sea Treaty that constrains the freedom of the U.S. Navy to go wherever it wants.

Not a good sign for Vietnam, you guys seem to have been targeted by the US Zionists.

Gaddafi was also praised by them when he had messed up with China, so that's the award they have paid for him. :coffee:

Qaddafi was a fool. He voluntarily denuclearized like an obedient dog.

He also poked China in the eye a few times by saying some unflattering things. When it came time for the U.N. Security Council to pass a resolution to invade Libya, China had no reason to veto it.

Muammar Gaddafi got what he deserved, but it is very unfortunate for the country Libya. Now Libya is another Iraq/Afghanistan, another Middle Eastern country taken over and destroyed by the western thugs in the name of "freedom and democracy".

Article 15 of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea

"Article 15 of the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea stipulates that the delineation rule for overlapping territorial sea claims does not apply to areas of historical title. These islands have been inhabited by Chinese for over 500 years, and have been under Guangzhou’s jurisdiction to protect and assist those inhabitants for over 50 years. Historic Right plus decades of silence in the face of a public declaration of the map amount to acquiescence. Ergo, the dotted line has been recognized for half a century.

"Article15

Delimitation of the territorial sea between States

with opposite or adjacent coasts

Where the coasts of two States are opposite or adjacent to each other, neither of the two States is entitled, failing agreement between them to the contrary, to extend its territorial sea beyond the median line every point of which is equidistant from the nearest points on the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial seas of each of the two States is measured. The above provision does not apply, however, where it is necessary by reason of historic title or other special circumstances to delimit the territorial seas of the two States in a way which is at variance therewith."

Vietnam has sufficient evidence to prove that we have control over both the Paracels and Spratlys for long time, peacefully, actually and continuous.
Chinese used force to invade the Paracel Islands from Vietnam in 1974, and some coral reefs in the Spratly Islands in 1988 from Vietnam. This has seriously violated UNCLOS1982.

China has painted "nine dotted line" unfounded in 1948 later said it was "history"? LOL on chinese

The Vietcong believes that they can outsmart US by using them to contain against China, but in fact they are deadly wrong, Vietnam has now suffered with the hyperinflation, it will be a huge weakness that can be exploited by the US to implant a color revolution there.

CPC played this game with US to contain against USSR because CPC has the grand strategists like Mao and Deng, and all current CPC members are their following students, while Vietcong got nothing to play with Uncle Sam. :coffee:

The United States is following the old British plan of divide and conquer. The U.S. stirs up unrest in a non-white country and the country self-destructs soon afterwards. It will take generations to repair the damage to Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, and Syria.

This is how the western world keeps the non-western world from developing. They convince you to destroy your own country. It's all very sad. All of those Middle Easterners are now many more decades away from becoming a developed country and living like Westerners.

Chinese are too smart to fall for this b.s. trick. That's why Westerners hate Chinese. Those Jedi mind tricks only work on the weak-minded.

China had the size in population, land mass, and resources to play the big power game. Vietnam is a minnow that will be crushed.

There is a video on the 1988 battle at Johnson Reef that says otherwise. It is China that is in control, not you Viets on fishing boats.

The West shouldn't play the Tibetan card during the Beijing Olympic Games, it had simply infuriated many young Chinese and allowed them to see the true color of the West. :coffee:

We don't invite them, they have presence in Asian long time.
Today they only enhance the presence in it, this is because China, not Vietnam.

About Vietnam's inflation, current it is at 6.9%, and possibly at 6% this year.

Vietnam’s inflation rate for 2012 could end up at above 6 percent, compared with the current state projection of 7-8 percent, a state-run newspaper quoted a government official on Tuesday as saying.

The comment by Do Thuc, head of the general Statistical Office, came two days after his department reported that the consumer price index for June rose 6.9 percent from a year earlier, the lowest rate since December 2009.

Prices in June dropped 0.26 percent from May, the first monthly fall since March 2009, according to government data.

Your superpower dream will push you off the cliff, it is a dangerous game that a country like Vietnam shouldn't play with. :coffee:

Vietnam latest news - Thanh Nien Daily | US senator slams China for undermining Vietnamese sovereignty

US Senator Joe Lieberman has criticized China for offering nine offshore blocks, located in Vietnam’s territory, to international gas and oil companies for bidding, the Vietnam News Agency reported Friday.
At the Maritime Security in the South China Sea Conference organized by US-based Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington on Wednesday, Lieberman said that the action taken by China's state owned National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) was “unfounded” and “unprecedented.”

It is a “provocative” move that is a “rhetorical” comeback to Vietnam’s assertion of its legal rights through domestic law (the Law on the Sea of Vietnam) passed last week, Lieberman was quoted as saying.

The blocks lie within Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone that is recognized by international laws, he said.

Also, according to the senator, to solve the East Sea issue, all involved parties need to recognize that the disputes can only be resolved on the basis of international law.

Making historical claims only increases conflicts, tensions and the risk of violence, he said.

Earlier other international observers like Carlyle Thayer of the University of New South Wales in Australia also told the two-day conference that China's action was an act of revenge against Vietnam for having recently passed the Law on the Sea.

In other related news, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Association declared Friday that the CNOOC’s action was “wrong” and “meaningless,” as it violates the 1982 United Nations Convention on The Law of The Sea and international conventions on oil and gas.

The association “strongly” opposed the action and demanded that the CNOCC immediately cancel its “wrongful” invitation for bids and comply with international laws as well as the ground rules for solving sea issues that Vietnam and China signed last year, the news agency reported.

Early this week, foreign ministry spokesman Luong Thanh Nghi, and Do Van Hau, director general of the state-owned Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam), which are conducting activities at blocks overlapping with the ones eyed by CNOOC, also voiced the same criticisms of China.
