Dear All,

As you know Mr. Barack Obama has won the 2009 nobel peace prize. This has started a debate as to why he has been awarded this award and did he deserve it. According to BBC web site 75% of the people have shown surprise at him being given the award.

My views are here:

Most probably they had no one else to give it too :rofl:

Obama is unworthy for this. Maybe dalai lama for second time would have been a good Idea :victory:

Its hilarious to award somebody a Nobel Peace Prize just on the level of possibilities and potential. Many more deserving people with far greater deeds have gone unappreciated by the committee. Mahatma Gandhi is the first name that springs to mind.

And the problem with potential, possibilities and hope is that many a times they remain unfilled or even turned on their head. What if Obama fails to live upto the expectations and the possibilities that he himself has worked to grow? Already his Afghan surge strategy and his pontificating stances at Copenhagen have ticked off people.

At the end of his presidential term he may turn out as not any different from a Bush or a Reagan. Or he might actually convert hope into long lasting peace. But by anointing him to be in the same league as Mandela, Su Kyi and the Dalai Lama they have put additional pressure on a very average man.

Now i understand why Gandhi didnt got nobel price..Its all about talking...those who present it nicely to the public got nobel price..and those who took peace action dont have ant chance for it
